In this paper, a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method is extended to simulate the ice failure process and ice-ship interactions. The softening elastoplastic model integrating Drucker-Prager yield criterion is embedded into the SPH method to simulate the failure progress of ice. To verify the accuracy of the proposed SPH method, two benchmarks are presented, which include the elastic vibration of a cantilever beam and three-point bending failure of the ice beam. The good agreement between the obtained numerical results and experimental data indicates that the presented SPH method can give the reliable and accurate results for simulating the ice failure progress. On this basis, the extended SPH method is employed to simulate level ice interacting with sloping structure and three-dimensional ice-ship interaction in level ice, and the numerical data is validated through comparing with experimental results of a 1:20 scaled Araon icebreaker model. It is shown the proposed SPH model can satisfactorily predict the ice breaking process and ice breaking resistance on ships in ice-ship interaction.
To increase the retaining force, a novel design for a concentric, bi-directional, electromagnetic valve actuator that contains double-layer permanent magnets is presented in this paper. To analyze the retaining-force change caused by the magnets, an equivalent magnetic circuit (EMC) model is established, while the EMC circuit of a double-layer permanent-magnet valve actuator (DLMVA) is also designed. Based on a 3D finite element method (FEM), the calculation model is built for the optimization of the key DLMVA parameters, and the valve-actuator optimization results are adopted for the improvement of the DLMVA design. A prototype actuator is manufactured, and the corresponding test results show that the actuator satisfies the requirements of a high retaining force under a volume limitation; furthermore, the design of the permanent magnets in the DLMVA allow for the attainment of both a high initial output force and a retaining force of more than 100 N.

The design of reconfiguring a class of second-order dynamic systems via proportional plus derivative (P-D) feedback is considered. The aim is to resynthesize a P-D feedback controller such that the eigenvalues of the reconfigured closed-loop system can completely recover those of the original close-loop system, and make the corresponding eigenvectors of the former as close to those of the latter as possible. Based on a parametric result of P-D feedback eigenstructure assignment in second-order dynamic systems, parametric expressions for all the P-D feedback gains and all the closed-loop eigenvector matrices are established and a parametric algorithm for this reconfiguration design is proposed. The parametric algorithm offers all the degrees of design freedom, which can be further utilized to satisfy some additional performances in control system designs. This algorithm involves manipulations only on the original second-order system matrices, thus it is simple and convenient to use. An illustrative example and the simulation results show the simplicity and effect of the proposed parametric method.

An approach to identify Chinese event types is proposed in this paper which combines a good feature selection policy and a Maximum Entropy (ME) model. The approach not only effectively alleviates the problem that classifier performs poorly on the small and difficult types, but improve overall performance. Experiments on the ACE2005 corpus show that performance is satisfying with the 83.5% macro - average F measure. The main characters and ideas of the approach are: (1) Optimal feature set is built for each type according to local feature selection, which fully ensures the performance of each type. (2) Positive and negative features are explicitly discriminated and combined by using one - sided metrics, which makes use of both features' advantages. (3) Wrapper methods are used to search new features and evaluate the various feature subsets to obtain the optimal feature subset.

Due to the increasing occurrence of maritime accidents and high-level requirements and modernization of naval wars, the concept of ship environment adaptability becomes more and more important. Therefore, it is of great importance to carry out an evaluation system for ship environment adaptability, which contributes to both ship design and classification. This paper develops a comprehensive evaluation system for ship environment adaptability based on fuzzy mathematics theory. An evaluation index system for ship environment adaptability is elaborately summarized first. Then the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy weighting methods are applied to aggregate the evaluations of criteria weights for each criterion and the corresponding subcriteria. Next, the multilevel fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is applied to assess the ship integrative environment adaptability. Finally, in order to verify the proposed approach, an illustrative example for optimization and evaluation of five ship alternatives is adopted. Moreover, the influence of criteria weights, membership functions and fuzzy operators on the results is also analyzed.
The long-tenn exposure of polymeric composite materials to extreme-use environments, such as pressure, temperature, moisture, and load cycles, results in changes in the original properties of the material. In this study, the effect of combined environmental factors such as ultraviolet ray, high temperature and high moisture on mechanical and thermal analysis properties of glass fabric and phenolic composites are evaluated through a 2.5 KW accelerated environmental aging tester. The environmental factors such as temperature, moisture and ultraviolet ray applied of specimens. A xenon-arc lamp is utilized for ultraviolet light and exposure time of up to 3000 hours are applied. Several types of specimens - tensile, bending, and shear specimens that are warp direction and fill direction are used to investigate the effects of environmental factors on mechanical properties of the composites. Mechanical degradations for tensile, bending and shear properties are evaluated through a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Also, storage shear modulus, loss shear modulus and tan a are measured as a function of exposure time through a Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA). From the experimental results, changes in material properties of glass fabric and phenolic composites are shown to be slightly degraded due to combined environmental effects.

In order to analyze the characteristics of propeller exciting force, the hybrid grid is adopted and the numerical prediction of KCS ship model is performed for hull-propeller-rudder system by Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) method and volume of fluid (VOF) model. Firstly, the numerical simulation of hydrodynamics for bare hull at oblique state is carried out. The results show that with the increasing of the drift angle, the coefficients of resistance, side force and yaw moment are constantly increasing, and the bigger the drift angle, the worse the overall uniformity of propeller disk. Then, propeller bearing force for hull-propeller-rudder system in oblique flow is calculated. It is found that the propeller thrust and torque fluctuation coefficient peak in drift angle are greater than that in straight line navigation, and the negative drift angle is greater than the positive. The fluctuation peak variation law of coefficient of side force and bending moment are different due to various causes.
Conventional cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) are usually fabricated with continuous electrode configuration (CEC), which suffers from the electrical cancellation at higher vibration modes. Though previous research pointed out that the segmented electrode configuration (SEC) can address this issue, a comprehensive evaluation of the PEH with SEC has yet been reported. With the consideration of delivering power to a common load, the AC outputs from all segmented electrode pairs should be rectified to DC outputs separately. In such case, theoretical formulation for power estimation becomes challenging. This paper proposes a method based on equivalent circuit model (ECM) and circuit simulation to evaluate the performance of the PEH with SEC. First, the parameters of the multi-mode ECM are identified from theoretical analysis. The ECM is then established in SPICE software and validated by the theoretical model and finite element method (FEM) with resistive loads. Subsequently, the optimal performances with SEC and CEC are compared considering the practical DC interface circuit. A comprehensive evaluation of the advantageous performance with SEC is provided for the first time. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using SEC as a simple and effective means to improve the performance of a cantilevered PEH at a higher mode.
Input series output independent (ISOI) dc-dc converter systems are suitable for high voltage input and multiple output applications with low voltage rating switches. This paper proposes a novel control strategy consisting of one output voltage regulating (OVR) control loop and n-1 (n is the number of modules in the ISOI system) input voltage sharing (IVS) control loops. An ISOI system with the proposed control strategy can be applied to applications where the output loads of each module are the same. Under these conditions, IVS can be achieved and output voltages copying can be realized in an ISOI system. In this control strategy there is only one controller for each module and the design process of the control loops is simple. Since no central controller is needed in the system, modularity of the system is improved. The operation principle of the new control strategy is introduced and the control effect is simulated. Then the output power and voltage characteristics of an ISOI system under this new control strategy are analyzed. The stability of the proposed control strategy is explored base on a Hurwitz criterion, and the design guide line of the control strategy is given. A two module ISOI system prototype is fabricated and tested in the laboratory. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
The operation and monitoring (OM) interface is the digital medium between nuclear power system and operators. The cognitive load of OM interface has an important effect on the operation errors made by operator during OM task between operator and computer. The cognitive load model of OM interface is constructed for analysing the composition and influencing factors of OM interface cognitive load. And to study the coping strategies and methods for cognitive load of nuclear power system. An experiment method based on eye movement is proposed to measure the cognitive load of OM interface. Experiment case is carried out with 20 subjects and typical OM interface of a nuclear power system simulator. The OM interface is optimized based on the experiment results. And the results comparison between the original OM interface and the optimized OM interface shows that the cognitive load model and proposed method is valuable contributions in reducing the cognitive load and improving the interaction efficiency of OM tasks.
