AN EFFICIENT AND STABLE ALGORITHM FOR NUMERICAL EVALUATION OF HANKEL TRANSFORMS

  • Recently, a number of algorithms have been proposed for numerical evaluation of Hankel transforms as these transforms arise naturally in many areas of science and technology. All these algorithms depend on separating the integrand $rf(r)J_{\upsilon}(pr)$ into two components; the slowly varying component rf(r) and the rapidly oscillating component $J_{\upsilon}(pr)$. Then the slowly varying component rf(r) is expanded either into a Fourier Bessel series or various wavelet series using different orthonormal bases like Haar wavelets, rationalized Haar wavelets, linear Legendre multiwavelets, Legendre wavelets and truncating the series at an optimal level; or approximating rf(r) by a quadratic over the subinterval using the Filon quadrature philosophy. The purpose of this communication is to take a different approach and replace rapidly oscillating component $J_{\upsilon}(pr)$ in the integrand by its Bernstein series approximation, thus avoiding the complexity of evaluating integrals involving Bessel functions. This leads to a very simple efficient and stable algorithm for numerical evaluation of Hankel transform.

Exact solutions of axisymmetric free vibration of transversely isotropic magnetoelectroelastic laminated circular plates

  • The axisymmetric free vibrations of transversely isotropic magnetoelectroelastic laminated circular plates are studied. Based on the three-dimensional governing equations of magnetoelectroelastic medium, the state space equations of laminated circular plates are obtained. By using the finite Hankel transform and rendering the free terms left by the transform in terms of the boundary quantities, the solutions of the state space equations are given for two kinds of boundary conditions. The frequency equations of the free vibration are derived using the propagator matrix method and the boundary conditions at top and bottom surfaces. By virtue of the inverse Hankel transform, the mode shapes are also determined. Since the solutions strictly satisfy the governing equations in the region and the boundary conditions at the edges, they are the three-dimensionally exact. Finally, the natural frequencies of such plates are tabulated and compared with those of the piezoelectric and elastic plates in the numerical example.

Interactions in a transversely isotropic new modified couple stress thermoelastic thick circular plate with two temperature theory

  • This article is an application of new modified couple stress thermoelasticity without energy dissipation in association with two-temperature theory. The upper and lower surfaces of the plate are subjected to an axisymmetric heat supply. The solution is found by using Laplace and Hankel transform techniques. The analytical expressions of displacement components, conductive temperature, stress components and couple stress are computed in transformed domain. Numerical inversion technique has been applied to obtain the results in the physical domain. Numerically simulated results are depicted graphically. The effect of two temperature is shown on the various components.

전자탐사 자료 해석을 위한 1차장 계산 (Primary Solution Evaluations for Interpreting Electromagnetic Data)

  • 전자탐사에서 수평 층서구조에 대한 Green 함수의 계산은 전자기 반응의 모델링에서 핵심적인 부분을 담당한다. 해석적으로 구해진 핵함수의 Hankel 변환으로 계산되는 Green 함수는 핵함수의 대수적 등가 표현방식에 의해 그 정확도가 결정된다. 특히 3차원 모델링의 경우 Green 함수 계산 횟수가 매우 많아서 Hankel 변환 계산이 전체 계산시간의 상당량을 차지하므로, 빠르고 정확한 Hankel 변환의 계산을 위해서 선형 수치필터를 이용한다. 최근 많이 시도되는 3차원 역산을 위한 모델링에서는 송신점에서의 특이성 문제를 피하기 위해 전기장을 1차장과 2차장으로 나누어 계산하는 것이 보통이다. 이 연구에서는 균질 반무한공간에 대해 지표면에 놓인 다섯 종류의 송신원에 대한 지하 매질에서의 전기장 세성분을 Hankel 변환을 이용하여 정리하고, 그 계산 방법에 대해 고찰하였다. 그리고 2중 반공간에서 EM1D를 이용하여 공기와 바다의 영향을 모두 고려한 전자기장을 계산할 때, 보다 정확한 해의 계산을 위해 TE 및 TM 모드에서의 반사계수를 유도하였다. 여기서 정리한 해를 이용하면 MT 문제는 물론, 해양 전자탐사의 경우에도 1차장을 정확히 계산할 수 있으므로 3차원 역산에서 보다 정확하고 효율적인 감도 계산이 가능할 것이다.

  • 시설물의 거동 파악을 위한 대표적인 방법으로는 가속도센서에서 측정되는 동적응답을 이용하여 역해석을 통해 구조변수를 추정하는 방법이 있다. 정확한 구조변수의 추정을 위해서는 최적화된 센서의 위치가 필요한데, 본 논문에서는 다양한 최적 센서위치를 추정하는 방법을 정리하였으며, 기존 시간영역에서만 사용되었던 Hankel matrix법을 주파수영역으로 확대 개발하여 기존 최적 센서위치 추정 방법들과 결과를 비교 분석하였다. 결과 비교 및 검증을 위해 지진동에 의한 동적 해석을 수행하여 기존 및 새로운 방법으로 선택된 최적 센서위치 에서의 가속도데이터를 활용하여 FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)를 통해 진동 형상의 크기를 구하고, spline function으로 전체 자유도에 대한 진동 형상을 추정하였으며, 추정된 진동 형상과 해석적으로 구해진 진동 형상과의 MAC 지수를 통하여 다양한 방법들의 모드 추정의 정확도를 비교하였다.

Transversely isotropic thick plate with two temperature & GN type-III in frequency domain

  • This investigation is focused on the variations in transversely isotropic thick circular plate due to time harmonic thermomechanical sources. The homogeneous thick circular plate in presence and absence of energy dissipation and two temperatures has been considered. Hankel transform is used for solving field equations. The analytical expressions of conductive temperature, displacement components, and stress components are computed in the transformed domain. The effects of frequency at different values are represented graphically. Some specific cases are also figured out from the current research.

  • This study considers a functionally graded (FG) elastic layer resting on homogeneous elastic substrate under axisymmetric static loading. The shear modulus of the FG layer is assumed to vary in an exponential form through the thickness. In solution, the FG layer is approximated into a multilayered medium consisting of thin homogeneous sublayers. Stiffness matrices for a typical homogeneous isotropic elastic layer and a half-space are first obtained by solving the axisymmetric elasticity equations with the aid of Hankel's transform. Global stiffness matrix is, then, assembled by considering the continuity conditions at the interfaces. Numerical results for the displacements and the stresses are obtained and compared with those of the classical elasticity and the finite element solutions. According to the results of the study, the approach employed here is accurate and efficient for elasto-static problems of FGMs.

A penny-shaped interfacial crack between piezoelectric layer and elastic half-space

  • An interfacial penny-shaped crack between piezoelectric layer and elastic half-space subjected to mechanical and electric loads is investigated. Using Hankel transform technique, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations. The integral equations are further reduced to a system of algebraic equations with the aid of Jacobi polynomials. The stress intensity factor and energy release rate are determined. Numerical results reveal the effects of electric loadings and material parameters of composite on crack propagation and growth. The results seem useful for design of the piezoelectric composite structures and devices of high performance.
