  • Over the past 10 years, STEAM education uprises to address student's low interest in and self-concept in comparison with their academic achievement in science, reacquaintance to enter schools of natural sciences or engineering. However, There is a paucity of empirical evidence revealing values and necessities of STEAM education in school. The purpose of this investigation is to develop steam education program making and using hands on sensor to experience new technology in school, to apply the program to 110 fourth graders, and to study the effect of the program. Pre- and post-test was used to measure level of student's scientific interest and attitude, scientific problem solving ability, scientific creative problem solving ability, personality test for children, satisfaction of school life. In conclusion, the result show that STEAM education improve every domain of the measurements.

  • Two radially arterial pulses of both hands using the prototype of a clamping clip pulsimeter equipped with permanent magnet and Hall device are compared and analyzed. The phase difference of two pulse wave signals is dominantly presented from the simultaneous measuring clinical pulse wave signals for twenty two male participants at their 20's. It is possible to analyze that the fast and slow pulse wave for right hand and left hand depend on the muscle property of arms rather than the total length of blood vessel due to cardiovascular circulatory system.

  • Stroke patients should exercise for the rehabilitation of their fingers, because they can't use their hand and fingers. Their hand and fingers are fixed on the hand fixing system for rehabilitation exercise of them. But the hands clenched the fist of stroke patients are difficult to fix on it. In order to fix the hands and fingers, their palms are pressed with pressing bars and are controlled by reference force. The fixing system must have a five-axis force/moment sensor to force control. In this paper, the five-axis force/moment sensor was developed for the hand fixing system of finger-rehabilitation exercising system. The structure of the five-axis force/moment sensor was modeled, and designed using finite element method(FEM). And it was fabricated with strain-gages, then, its characteristic test was carried out. As a result, the maximum interference error is less than 2.43 %.

  • This paper proposed the implementation of haptic-based robot which is following a human by using fundamental sensors on robot arms without additional sensors. Joints in the robot arms have several motors, and their angles can be read out by these motors when a human pushes or pulls the robot arms. So these arms can be used as haptic sensors. The implemented robot follows a human by interacting with robot arms and human hands, as a human follows a human by hands.

  • Due to recently advanced electrical devices, human can access computer network regardless of working location or time restriction. However, currently widely used mouse, joystick, and trackball input system are not easy to carry and they bound user hands exclusively within working space. Those make user inconvenient in Ubiquitous environments.. In this paper, we propose multiple dimension human motion detection system based on wireless sensor networks. It is a portable input device and provides easy installation process and unbinds user hands during input processing stages. Our implemented system is comprised of three components. One is input unit that senses user motions and transmits collected data to receiver. Second is receiver that conveys the received data to application, which runs on server computer. Third is application that performs command operations according to received data. Experiments shows that proposed system accurately detect the characteristics of user arm motions and fully support corresponding input requests.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the method to recognize gestures based on inertia sensor which recognizes the movements of the user using inertia sensor and lets the user enjoy the game by comparing the recognized movements with the pre-defined movements for the game contents production. Additionally, it was tried to provide users with various data entry methods by letting them wear small controllers using three-axis accelerator sensor. Users can proceed the game by moving according to the action list printed on the screen. They can proceed the experiential games according to the accuracy and timing of their movements. If they use multiple small wireless controllers together wearing them on the major parts of hands and feet and utilize the proposed methods, they will be more interested in the game and be absorbed in it.

  • We Propose a sensor fusion technique for motion capture system. In our system, two kinds of sensors are used for mutual assistance. Four magnetic sensors(markers) are attached on the upper arms and the back of the hands for assisting twelve optical sensors which are attached on the arms of a performer. The optical sensor information is not always complete because the optical markers can be hidden due to obstacles. In this case, magnetic sensor information is used to link discontinuous optical sensor information. We use a system identification techniques for modeling the relation between the sensors' signals. Dynamic systems are constructed from input-output data. We determine the best model from the set of candidate models using the canonical system identification techniques. Our approach is using a simple signal processing technique currently. In the future work, we will propose a new method using other signal processing techniques such as Wiener or Kalman filter.

  • Future computer interface was interchanged with person's hands or eyes from traditional mouse. In this research, I developed glove type radio mouse using gyro sensor that is replaced mouse cursor movement with persons's hand movement. Introducing a mobile sensor network technology based on bluetooth, radio mouse connected to computer system wirelessly for overcoming wire mouse's activity restrictions. Also, using USB port interface made be easy to install and to use. Developed glove type radio mouse was confirmed in the possibility of using as well as an input pointing device for presentations or games that needed many kinds of user interaction.

  • Activity recognition using smartphone accelerometer suffers from the user dependency problem that acceleration patterns of one user differ from those of others for the same activity. Moreover, it also suffers from the position dependency problem since a smartphone may be placed in any pockets or hands. In order to overcome these problems, this paper proposes an effective activity recognition method which is less dependent with both specific users and specific positions of the smartphone. Based on the proposed method, we implement a real-time activity recognition system working on an Android smartphone. Throughout some experiments with 6642 examples collected from different users and different positions, we investigate the performance of our activity recognition system.

  • This paper implements a door lock using PIR sensor based on Arduino. When the PIR sensor detects movement, the door lock device is activated and RFID tags can be used. This door rock can prevent lonely death by detecting whether the resident is in or out, and it also has hygienic advantage because it unlocks without contact by using RFID. In addition, as door locks are frequently used in everyday life, the above-mentioned implementation can also increase participation in hands-on lectures.
