In this paper, we propose a novel inter-cell handover approach from a new perspective in dense Heterogeneous and Small Cell Networks (HetSNets). We first devise a cell selection mechanism to choose a proper candidate small cell for the UEs that tend to implement inter-small cell handover (ICH). By exploiting the property of a typical non-concentric circle, i.e., circle of Apollonius, we then propose a novel analytical method for modeling inter-cell handover regions and present mathematical derivation to prove that the inter-small cell handover issues fit the property of the circle of Apollonius. We design an inter-cell handover algorithm (ICHA) by means of our proposed handover model to dynamically configure hysteresis margin and properly implement handover decision in terms of UE's mobility. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ICHA yields lower call drop rate and radio link failure rate than the conventional methods and hence achieve high Handover Performance Indicator (HPI).

Considering that the existing Long Term Evolution is not suitable for the fast and frequent handovers of high-speed trains, this paper proposes a relay-assisted handover mechanism to solve the problems of long handover authentication time and vulnerable to security attacks. It can achieve mutual authentication for train-ground wireless communication, and data transmission is consistent with one-time pad at the same time. The security analysis, efficiency analysis and simulation results show that the proposed mechanism not only realizes the forward security and resists many common attacks, but also effectively reduces the computational overhead of train antenna during the secure handover process. When the running speed of a train is lower than 500km/h, the handover delay is generally lower than 50ms and the handover outage probability is less than 1.8%. When the running speed of a train is 350km/h, the throughput is higher than 16.4mbps in the process of handover. Therefore, the secure handover mechanism can improve the handover performance of high-speed trains.

Recently, UAV manufacturers are developing UAV system in a form that can be controlled by CS regardless of UAV kind and using STANAG 4586 interface standard considering Interoperability. STANAG 4586 is a NATO military standard developed to control various UAVs with standardized equipment. In such a case, UAV handover will inevitably occur and it is one of the most important function for safe UAV flight in platform using STANAG 4586. In the future combat situation where collaboration between AV and UAV is anticipated, seamless handover of UAV is a part of continuous research. In this paper, we propose requirements for UAV handover based on ARP 4761 safety assessment and analyze feasibility of the requirements by comparing UAV handover process in STANAG 4586. As a result of the comparative analysis, the proposed handover requirements based on ARP 4761 includes all the handover procedures of STANAG 4586 and present additional considerations for SOP creation and CS development. Applying the proposed handover requirements in the UAV development process can reduce the probability of loss of UAV control over the handover process and it can be expected to help improve the safety of UAV.
Fast handover is essential to support seamless multicast service in MIPv6. To reduce handover latency of multicast, there are two handover mechanisms, one is M-FMIP that prepares fast L3 handover before L2 handover and the other is M-HMIP that performs local area mobile multicast management. This paper proposes M-FHMIP that integrates an advantage of M-FMIP and M-HMIP, and analyzes the multicast handover latency.

In this paper, the patterns of movement used in the mobile communication systems are adopted in the mobile computing environment to reduce handover delay and to support seamless handover for MIPv6 based on IEEE 802.11 networks. That is, RtSolPr message and PrRtAdv message can be treated before handover. As the result, it is possible to assign NCoA to MN and Next Access Router(NAR) before handover starts. This can minimize handover delay and reduce the total handover delay.

This paper proposes a dynamic IP address configuration (DAC) scheme for mSCTP handover, which exploits the information from the link layer to support SCTP handover between heterogeneous access networks. The proposed DAC scheme enables a mobile terminal to automatically add a new IP address in the newly visited region, change the primary path, and delete the old IP address so as to support the mSCTP handover. For experimental analysis of mSCTP handover, we consider the handover scenarios for 3G-BWA and 3G-WLAN over Linux platforms. From experimental results, it is shown that the throughput and handover latency of the mSCTP handover would be affected by the timing of primary-change and the overlapping period.
Since various type of wireless/mobile network likes WLAN, WIBRO, HSDPA were come to us, technology providing high quality multimedia service while user move are actively researched such as MIH (Media Independent Handover) proposed by IEEE for interworking between heterogeneous network and CMIP (Client Mobile IP), PMIP (Proxy Mobile IP) for mobility. Despite the technology about interworking and handover between heterogeneous network are actively researched, handover decision method need to be researched. In this paper we suggest a simple and effective handover method for high quality multimedia service in real wireless environment. For this, we use MIH+CMIP platform for target multimedia service to make handover decision rule in WIBRO and HSDPA networks. After apply this rule, we verified effectiveness of handover decision method through real test.
In this paper. we propose an adaptive handover scheme in wireless network The proposed handover scheme is a hybrid type of virtual path extension and rerouting. The proposed handover scheme chooses the virtual path management scheme according to the service QoS instead of the network topology which is used in the previous hybrid handover schemes. The proposed scheme supports the seamless service and small buffering during virtual path rerouting handover through the multicasting service. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. we compute the number of signaling message used for handover and perform computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides more efficiency in the handover delay and seamless service than the previous methods.

Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) transmission / reception is being studied in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) for future evolution of the $3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) LTE. Support of soft handover is essential for improving the performance of cell edge users. CoMP provides a natural framework for enabling soft handover in the LTE system. This paper evaluates the soft handover gain in LTE-A downlink. Mathematical analysis of signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) gain and the handover margins for soft handover and hard handover are derived. CoMP system model is developed and an inter-cell and intra-cell interference model is derived, taking into account the pathloss, shadowing, cell loading, and traffic activity. Reference signal received power (RSRP) is used to define the triggers and the measurements for soft handover. Our results indicate that parameter choices such as handover margin and the CoMP set size impact CoMP performance gain.
