  • A 5-bar structure with redundant actuators is proposed as a finger mechanism. It is shown that one additional redundant actuator greatly enhances the load handling capacity of the system. The actuator location should be carefully decided to maximize the performance enhancement. Furthermore, we develop stiffness and frequency control algorithms based on the internal loading created by redundant actuation. The effectiveness of these algorithms have been demonstrated by simulations.

A New Emergency-Handling Mechanism based on IEEE 802.15.4 for Health-Monitoring Applications

  • The recent advances in wireless communication systems and semiconductor technologies are paving the way for new applications over wireless sensor networks. Health-monitoring application (HMA) is one such emerging technology that is focused on sensing and reporting human vital signs through the communication network comprising sensor devices in the vicinity of the human body. The sensed vital signs can be divided into two categories based on the importance and the frequency of occurrence: occasional emergency signs and regular normal signs. The occasional emergency signs are critical, so they have to be delivered by the specified deadlines, whereas the regular normal signs are non-critical and are only required to be delivered with best effort. Handling the occasional emergency sign is one of the most important attributes in HMA because a human life may depend on correct handling of the situation. That is why the underlying network protocol suite for HMA should ensure that the emergency signs will be reported in a timely manner. However, HMA based on IEEE 802.15.4 might not be able to do so owing to the lack of an appropriate emergency-handling mechanism. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new emergency-handling mechanism to reduce the emergency reporting delay in IEEE 802.15.4 through the modified superframe structure. A fraction of an inactive period is modified into three new periods called the emergency reporting period, emergency beacon period, and emergency transmission period, which are used opportunistically only for immediate emergency reporting and reliable data transmission. Extensive simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results reveal that the proposed scheme achieves improved latency and higher emergency packets delivery ratio compared with the conventional IEEE 802.15.4 MAC.

  • 위험지역에서의 작업을 위하여 전세계적으로 원격조작기가 널리 활용되고 있다. 특히 원격 시스템의 경우, 운영되는 환경의 특징상 안정적인 성능이 담보되어야만 하며, 조작기 몸체의 경량화 및 운용환경 외부에서의 유지보수 편리성을 위하여 구동부를 시스템의 기저부에 집중시킬 수 있는 장력구동방식 메커니즘이 주로 활용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 장력구동 방식 원격조작기에 적용하기 위한 그리퍼 탄성 구동부의 설계를 위해 시도된 접근법을 소개하고자 한다. 제시된 그리퍼 시스템은 기본적으로 스프링 메커니즘에 기반을 둔 4 절 링크형 구조를 가지고 있으며 마스터 조작자에 의해 동작되는 슬레이브 조작기의 말단부에 결합되는 구조를 가진다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 조작기의 요구사항에 맞는 그리퍼의 파지력 및 복원력을 재현하기 위하여 그리퍼 상에서의 적정 스프링 결합위치 및 요구강성과 그에 따른 운동학적 영향계수 등을 분석 및 고찰하였다. 최종적으로는 이러한 분석내용들을 바탕으로, 실제 그리퍼 시스템에 적용함으로써 타당성을 검증하였다.

코스웨어 공동 저작을 위한 협력적 충돌 해결 모델 (Collaborative Conflict Handling Model for Courseware Co-Authoring)

  • 협력적 컴퓨팅 기술이 발전되어감에 따라. 동시 사용자들의 상호 작용이 매우 중요시되어 가고 있다. 따라서, 최근의 CSCW 시스템은 충돌 해결 방식들을 요구하게 되었다. 그러나 현존하는 공동 저작 도구들이나 CSCW시스템들은 충돌 해결 기법에 제한을 갖고 있다. 일반적으로 공동 저작 도구는 특정 사용자의 관점을 기준으로 충돌을 해결하는 해결책을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 방식은 충돌 해결에 가장 빠른 해결책을 제시할 수 있으나, 다른 저작자의 관점은 충분히 반영되지 못한다는 문제가 존재한다. 이 논문에서는 협력적 충돌 해결 방식을 이용한 공동 저작 모델을 제안한다. 제안하는 방식은 저작자들이 자신의 관점을 충분히 반영시킬 수 있으며, 이러한 방식을 통하여 시스템에서는 사용자의 요구에 적합한 컨텐츠를 제공할 수 있다. 제안하는 모델은 XML 등의 구조적 문서의 형태로 표현되는 코스웨어 저작이나 EDI 시스템에 널리 활용될 수 있다.

Design and Development of an Ergonomic Trolley-Lifter for Sheet Metal Handling Task: A Preliminary Study

  • Background: There have been some concerns related to manual handling of large items in industry. Manual handling operations of large sheet metal may expose workers to risks related to efficiency as well as occupational safety and health. Large sheet metals are difficult to move and burdensome to lift/transfer, and handling the sharp sheet edges may result in contact stress and/or cut injuries on the workers. Methods: Through observation, interview, and immersive simulation activities, a few problems related to current handling of sheet metals were identified. A sheet metal trolley-lifter was then designed and fabricated to address these issues. A pilot study on the use of the developed trolley-lifter for handling sheet metals was conducted to compare between the new and traditional handling methods. Results: The pilot study of the trolley-lifter showed promising results in terms of improving the cycle time, manpower utilization, and working postures compared with the traditional handling method. Conclusion: The trolley-lifter offers an alternative solution to automation and a mechanized assistive device by providing a simple mechanism to assist the handling of sheet metals effectively and safely.

  • In this research, a grafting robot with plug in method is used. Plug in method is a method that uses a tapered axis for scion and a tapered hole for stock as processing style of conjugation parts. In the case of handling a grafting seedling, gripping a stem is doing with simple mechanisms of devising to reduce damages to stems. For example, providing cushions between gripper and stem, and fitting a gripper to a stem. Both scions and stocks need cutting, but there is bigger influence for scions than stocks, so problems of cutting scions and special qualities of grippers are necessary to investigate.

  • 스위치 박스는 건축물의 전선관용으로 사용되는 금속제 박스이다. 이 박스를 제조할 때는 프레스 5∼6대, 금형 5∼6 벌, 태핑머신 1대, 작업자 7∼8명이 요구된다. 그래서 제조원가의 상승, 근로자의 작업기피 현상이 문제점이다. 이 문제점을 해』하기 위하여 기존의 금형을 머디파이하고, 핸들링 장치를 개발함으로써 제조공정을 개선시키고자 하였다. 따라서 연구개발 결과 프레스 2대, 금형 2벌, 태핑머신 1대, 작업자 1명으로 단축시켜 생력화, 생인화, 원가절감. 수입대체 효과를 얻게 되었다.

후륜 캠버각 변화가 차량 조종성능에 미치는 효과 분석 (Analysis of Vehicle Handling Performance due to Camber Angle Change of Rear Wheel)

  • In this study, a camber angle generating mechanism for rear suspension is suggested. An experimental device is implemented and tested. A full vehicle model with camber angle generating device by using ADAMS/Car is modeled. Rear left wheel and rear right wheel have 5 different camber angles in the simulations, respectively. Step steer and pulse steer simulations are carried out for investigating the effects of vehicle handling performance due to camber angle control of rear suspension. According to the results, the camber angle of rear suspension affects the vehicle handling performance during both simulations. Therefore, when the vehicle makes the right turn or left turn, left and right wheel should have the proper orientation for improving the handling performance, respectively.

  • The testing philosophy and control schemes are investigated and applied to construct the Automatic Microwave Leakage Inspection System (AMLIS) . AMLIS is consists of three major parts such as Material Handling Mechanism, Fine Positioning Mechanism and Scanning Mechanism. The material Handling unit is designed to perform loading and unloading microwave oven onto the testing point by pneumatic cylinder and vacuum pump. The Fine positioning part includes X-Y-.THETA. table and distance sensing equipment. The scanning part is composed of five SCARA robots, which traverse X-Y-Z catesian coordinates respectively. The leakage testing probes are placed at the end of this each robot then the path and speed are both controlled via microprocessors. A performance test of this system combined with electric parts and software is done and the basic major function of system are accomplished.
