The Imjin and North Han River are sharing watershed between South and North Korea. In Imjin river basin, the April 5th dam and Hwanggang dam which are already constructed or on constrution, causes problems in water supply in the downstrean area. At the same time, in the North Han River basin, the Imnam dam is being operated for diversion to Anbyeon Youngman Hydropower Plant and it gives rise to conflict between South and North by reducing streamflow in the North Han River of South Korean side. Therefore, a cooperative framework needs to be built for settling the pending issues. In this study, based on the theory of conflict resolution in the international shared river basin, the practical alternatives are suggested. These approaches are expected to help in preparing reasonable resolution ahead of seeking political decision. Also, in order to preparing consistent and reasonable river management measures, the South-North shared river management commission was suggested.

Riparian zone occupies not more than 5% of the total watershed area and can be considered in between the terrestrial and aquatic ecology as that does not fall under both of them. Unlike to common terrestrial plant that can e seen on other land, the riparian vegetation that exist in riparian zone can be classified into various groups because of their peculiar living form. The recognition of importance of terrestrial environment has considered the importance of natural river due to which even today, the movement throughout the world to retrograde the river development is taking place customarily. In this research, noticing the actual condition of the river management reality, the original capacity of river landscaping of Han river has been quantified grasping the actual condition of riparian vegetation from distribution area surveying and analysis. The objective of the research is to find out the river retrogression and maintenance methods based on the ecological environmental quality around the river by maintaining the river plants having high natural capacity and river planning method based on the harmony between conservation of river environment and use of riparian zone.

The purpose of this study is to estimate overall reliability and applicability of the watershed modeling for systematic management of point and non-point sources via water quality analysis and prediction of runoff discharge within watershed. Recently, runoff characteristics and pollutant characteristics have been changing in watershed by anomaly climate and urbanization. In this study, the effects of watershed scale were analyzed in runoff and water quality modeling using HSPF. In case of correlation coefficient, its range was from 0.936 to 0.984 in case A(divided - 2 small watersheds). On the other hand, its range was form 0.840 to 0.899 in case B(united - 1 watershed). In case of Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient, its range was from 0.718 to 0.966 in case A. On the other hand, its range was from 0.441 to 0.683 in case B. As a result, it was judged that case A was more accurate than case B. Therefore, runoff and water quality modeling in minimum watershed scale that was provided data for calibration and verification was judged to be favorable in accuracy. If optimal watershed dividing and parameter optimization using PEST in HSPF with more reliable measured data are carried out, more accurate runoff and water quality modeling will be performed.
The purpose of this study is to inquire and analyse the relation between traveltime (Tc) and watetshed physical characteristics surveyed such as river length (L), Lea, river main slope (s), base length of time area diagram, and storage constant (k). The results obtained in this study are as follows. The average widths of watersheds were with the range from 4.6 kilometers to 16.7 kilometers. The shape factors of main stream ranged from 0.08 to 0.37. The average slopes to main 8tream were within the range of 1.7-5.5 meter per kilometer. The relation between the base length and traveltime from S. C. S. method, Rational method, and RZIHA+KRAVEN method were derived $Tc=0.524{\times}1.35^c$ (r=0.98), $Tc=0.628{\times}1.339^c$, (r=0.98), $Tc=0.667{\times}1.342^c$ (r=0.97). The base length of the time-area diagram (c) for the IUH was derived as $c=0.9(\frac{L.L_{ca}}{\sqrt{s}})^{0.35}$ and correlation coefficient was 0.98 which defined a high significance. The storage constant K, derived in this study was $K=8.32+0.0213{\frac{L}{\sqrt{s}}}$ with correlation coefficient (0.96). The relation between storage Constant and conventional formula were figured out $Tc=0.0003{\times}3.323^k$ (r=0.97). $Tc=0.00045{\times}3.268^k$ (r=0.99) and $Tc=0.0004{\times}3.26^k$ (r=0.963). The base length (c) and storage constant (k) of time-Area Diagram were very important parts that determined traveltime for flood events. In the estimate of travel time for predicting flood volume, the formula of $Tc=0.524{\times}1.35^c$ that would be available to apply the Nak - Dong river watershed area and homogeneous watershed characteristics was found.

Long term water quality change was analyzed to evaluate the effect of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) policy. A trend analysis was performed for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total phosphorus (TP) concentrations data monitored at the outlets of the total 41 TMDL unit watersheds of the Nakdong River in the Republic of Korea. Because water quality data do not usually follow a normal distribution, a nonparametric statistical trend analysis method was used. The monthly mean values of BOD and TP for the period between 2004 and 2015 were analyzed by the seasonal Mann-Kendall test and the locally weighted scatterplot smoother (LOWESS). The TMDL policy effect on the water quality change of each unit watershed was analyzed together with the results of the trend analysis. From the seasonal Mann-Kendall test results, it was found that for BOD, 7.8 % of the 41 points showed downward trends, 26.8 % and the rest 65.9% showed upward and no trends. For TP, 51.2% showed no trends and the rest 48.8% showed downward trends. From the LOWESS analysis results, TP began to decrease in most of the unit watersheds from mid-2010s when intensive chemical treatment processes were introduced to existing wastewater treatment plants. Overall, for BOD, relatively more points were improved in the main stream compared to the points of the tributaries although overall trends were mostly no trend or upward. For TP, about half of the points were improved and the rest showed no trends.
In order to investigate the temporal variability of dissolved and particulate trace metals in the Han River, water samples were collected intermittently at two sites for 3 years (August 91 to December 94). Surface seawaters covering the range of salinity were also collected at the estuarine region to evaluate the role of estuary for the riverine fluxes of trace metals within the estuary during October 95 and 96. During the study period, dissolved metal concentrations in riverwaters varied by a factor of 5-10 for Fe, Ni, Co and Cu and 50-100 for Mn, Cd and Pb depending upon the water level; high concentration during the low water and low concentration in high water period except for Fe. The concentration of dissolved Fe increased with increasing water discharge. These concentration-discharge relationships of the studied trace metals are explained by the successive dilution of waters from two different origins, which can be presumably identified as anthropogenic discharges and watershed flushing. Although estuarine waters at early mixing region were not collected due to the difficulty of sampling, mixing behaviors of metals were inferred from the concentration-salinity relationships through the laboratory mixing experiment and field sampling, and distribution coefficients between dissolved and labile particulate phases. It is suggested that the Han River estuary plays a role of accumulating Fe, Mn, Co and Pb from riverine sources due to high turbidity caused by strong tidal current, whereas this system serves as a source of dissolved Cd due to release caused by extended residence time of riverine particles.

For Hydrologic analysis of the river, the exact Dividing Watershed and Hydrologic-Topographical Parameters affect enormously Hydrologic analysis of the river basin. Therefore the extraction of Hydrologic-Topographical Parameters as well as Dividing Watershed are stiuied by several ways. However the definite standard of all those means are not settled. Recently GIS is applied to the field of water resources so that we can divide Watershed and calculate Hydrologic-Topographical Parameters of the targeted area easily and objective way for using DEM. Thanks to DEM, we don't have to spend much time as we did before. However other problems are generated such as the parameter value is changed by the precision of established NGIS(National Geographic Information System), etc. In this study, using GIS which is popular recently, we suggested efficient extract method of Hydrologic-Topographical Parameters SCS(Soil Conservation Service) CN(Curve Number) in watershed.

This study was attempted to derivate empirical formulas for the runoff: ratio during ilood. season at three watersheds of Dan Yang, Chung Ju, and Yeo Ju are located at upper, middle, and lower portion of Nam Han river basin, respectively. Obtained formulas for flood runoff ratio can be applied as an element for the estimation, peak discharge for the design of various hydraulics structures which can be concidented with meteorological and topographical condition. The obtained through this study were analyzed as follows. 1.It was found that the magnitude of runoff ratio depends on the amount of rainfall for all studying basins. 2.Empirical formulas 'for the runoff' ratio were derivated as 1- 2,707 Rt0.345, 1-1.691 Rt0.242 and 1-1.807 Rt0.227 at Dan Yang, Chung Ju and Yeo Ju watershed, respectively. 3.The magnitude of runoff ratio was appeared in the order of Dan Yang, Chung Ju, and Yeo Ju are located at upper, middle and lower portion of Nam Han rivet basin, respectively. 4.It was assumed that in general the more it rains, the lesser becomes the ratio of loss rainfall. Especially, the ratio of loss rainfall for Dan Yang, upper portion of river basin was shown as the lowest among three watersheds. Besides, the magnitude of that was appeared in the order of Chung Ju and Yeo Ju watershed located at middle, and lower part of river basin, respectively. 5.Relative and standard errors of runoff ratio calculated by empirical formulas were shown to be within ten percent to the observed runoff ratio in all watersheds. 6.It is urgently essential that the effect of antecedent rainfall have an influence on the next coming flood should be studied in near future.

The purposes of this study were to suggest the methodology to select prior areas in the environmental pollution survey for livestock excreta (EPSLE) as well as to elucidate the validity of the methodology. In this study, the prior areas in the EPSLE were determined by examining the number of compost facilities categorized according to the three levels of size including the basin, the sub-basin and the watershed, respectively, based on the data from "Annual Nation-wide Pollution Sources Survey (2012)". The results suggested that the list of prior basins were Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han river basins in order. Also, it was examined that the prior sub-basins in the four river basins including Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han rivers were Naesung Stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream, respectively. The prior watersheds in the sub-basins of Naesung stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream were Seocheon Downstream, Geum Stream, Gyeombaek Suwipyo and Yanghwa Stream, respectively. The validity of the methodology used in this study was elucidated by analyzing the correlation of the number of compost facilities with the concentrations of T-N and T-P observed in the end-points of sub-basins. The results of correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of T-N and T-P increased with the number of compost facilities. Specifically, there was the stronger correlation between the number of compost facilities and the concentrations of T-N than that for T-P. Consequently, it was proved that the methodology used in this work was valid and rational for the selection of prior areas in environmental pollution survey for EPSLE.
At this study, the monitoring network of water quality was established in the agricultural watershed an area 14,960 ha of the central southwest of Korea. Loads of nitrogen and phosphorus by agricultural land use were quantified bases on total amounts of stream flow. The land were used as a lowland paddy, an upland and a forest about 12.14 % (1,815 ha), 5.17 % (773 ha) and 80.31 % (12,015 ha) of the area, respectively. For six months, from May 1 to October 31, 1999, the total precipitation was 970 mm and the total amount of stream flow was $80,281,000\;m^3$. In the load of agricultural non-point sources relevant to land use, total-N was 138,413 kg, then ammonia-N 13,362 kg, nitrate-N 124,629 kg, and total-P 157 kg. The loss of nutrient which from application of chemical fertilizer were 38.0% in nitrogen and 0.1% in phosphorus to input chemical fertilizer in the watershed.
