A New Record of Palaeoagraecia lutea (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae: Conocephalinae: Agraeciini) in Korea

  • The bamboo katydid, Palaeoagraecia lutea (Matsumura et Shiraki, 1908) is newly reported in South Korea. Previously, the species was only known in Japan, but currently its occurrence is confirmed in the far southern locality of Hampyeong, Jeollanam-do province of Korean Peninsula. This katydid was collected using a light trap and sound tracing in the bamboo forest. It is regarded as a rare stenotopic species. The features of male Palaeoagraecia lutea are illustrated and discussed in terms of song characteristics, and a key is provided for the genus Palaeoagraecia. A new synonym is proposed: P. philippina (Karny, 1926)=P. globicerata (Vickery et Kevan, 1999) syn. nov.

환경모니터링을 위한 집비둘기 깃털의 중금속 축적특성 연구 (The Characteristics of Heavy Metal Accumulations in Feral Pigeon (Columba livia) Feathers for Environmental Monitoring)

  • 집비둘기는 도시지역에서 환경오염물질의 생물축적 모니터링을 위한 지표종으로 알려져 있으며, 집비둘기 알은 생물 자체를 죽이지 않고도 생물축적의 경향을 모니터링할 수 있는 시료로서 유용하다. 하지만 알은 유기 오염물질 축적은 잘 되는 반면, 납, 카드뮴 같은 특정 중금속은 저농도로 축적되는 특성이 있기 때문에 중금속에 대한 적절한 모니터링을 위해 대체 시료의 연구가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 집비둘기의 세척깃털을 이용하여 중금속 축적 특성을 연구하였고, 중금속 모니터링 시료로서의 가능성을 검토하였다. 도시지역인 서울 한강공원과 농촌지역인 함평군 함평공원을 대상으로 2013년 4월~5월에 집비둘기 개체 포획 및 알 채집을 실시하였고, 생체 조직, 세척깃털, 알의 중금속 5종(Pb, Cd, Total Cr, Ni, As)에 대한 축적 농도를 분석하였다. 중금속 5종의 생체 조직 내 축적 특성을 보면, 납(Pb)과 카드뮴(Cd)은 나머지 3종(Total Cr, Ni, As)에 비해 생체 조직 내 축적이 두드러지게 높게 나타났다. 특히, 납은 다른 중금속에 비해 지역 간 비교에서도 두드러진 농도 차이를 보였는데, 뼈, 간, 혈액에서 통계적으로 유의하게 농촌지역인 함평공원보다 도시지역인 한강공원이 높은 농도를 보였다. 이러한 경향은 깃털에서도 나타났다. 알 시료(알 내용물, 껍데기)는 깃털보다는 상대적으로 낮은 농도로 납이 축적되는 경향을 보였다. 깃털 중에서는 꼬리깃과 날개깃이 각각 신장 및 뼈 조직의 납 농도와 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때, 중금속 배출경로 요소(깃털, 알, 배설물 등) 중 하나인 깃털로 축적되는 납 농도는 다른 요소(예: 알)에 비해 상대적으로 높고, 환경 오염요소(대기, 토양, 먹이 등) 내 납 농도가 서로 차이나는 지역들 내의 집비둘기의 생체 축적농도 차이를 깃털이 어느 정도 반영할 가능성이 있을 것으로 판단된다.

통계분석기법을 이용한 전남 갯벌 해역 수질특성 (The Evaluation of the Water Quality in Coastal Boundary on Tidal flat)

  • 전남 서해 갯벌 연안경계부 수질특성을 파악하기 위하여 5개 해역(무안만, 탄도만, 함평만, 신안지도 및 영광해역)을 대상으로 2008년에서 2009년까지 2년 동안 한 달에 두 번씩 현장조사를 실시하였다. 수온은 $1.3{\sim}31.1^{\circ}C$로 연교차가 컸다. 염분은 비교적 32 내외로 균일하였으나 강우가 집중되는 시기에 염분 함량이 20 이하로 저염화가 나타났으며, 수온 변화에 따라 용존산소는 하계에 낮고 동계에 높았다. 수소이온농도는 용존산소와 비슷한 분포경향을 보였다. 부유물질의 경우 영광해역에서 100 mg/l 이상으로 높은 함량을 보였다. 화학적 산소요구량은 1 mg/l 내외로 큰 변화가 없었으며, 용존무기질소와 용존무기인은 담수유입이 증가하는 시기에 높은 함량을 보였다. 용존무기질소는 겨울과 초봄에 낮은 반면에 용존 무기인은 월별 변화 없이 균일한 분포를 보이다가 2009년 7월 이후 다소 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 엽록소a는 봄철에 $10\;{\mu}g/l$내외로 나타났으며 이후 대부분 비슷한 분포 경향을 보이나 특히 타 해역에 비하여 여름철에 영광해역에서 높게 나타났다. 해역별 수질특성을 비교하기 위하여 실시한 주성분분석 결과는 다음과 같이 뚜렷한 특징을 보였다. 무안만과 탄도만에서 제 1 주성분 요인은 담수유입 변동이었으며, 신안지도 해역과 영광해역에서는 수온의 변화로 나타났다. 함평만에서는 담수유입 변동과 수온변화의 영향이 제 1 주성분 요인으로 복합되어 나타났다.

함평지역 토양의 위해성과 인위적 부화에 의한 토양환경평가 (Soil Environmental Assesment by the Risk and Artificial Enrichment of Hampyeong District Soils)

  • Considering risks and artificial enrichments of metals in the soils of the study area, the study aims to analyze geology, grain size and geochemistry. Geology is mainly composed of gneisses and phyllites of metamorphic rocks, sandstones, siltstones, shales, tuffs of sedimentary ones and granites and andesites of igneous ones in the area. In the area, mean contents of metals are not meaningful in accordance with petrogenesis. The soil textures of the area are of S, lS and sL of sandy soil, L, scL, cL of loam and C, zC and sC of clayey soil. Mean contents of Ni, Cr, Co and Cu are meaningfully high in loam and clayey soil relative to sandy soil, whereas Ni, Zn, Cd contents are higher in clayey soil than in loam. Those differences imply the metallic contents are dependent to grain size. Based on the metal contents in the soils of the study area, Cu and Zn in loams and Pb in sandy soils are corresponded to soil contamination warning standards, and As showing 75mg/kg of maximum content in loams is assigned to soil contamination countermeasure standards, respectively. Artificial enrichment factor minimized wall rock and grain size relations is over 1 in Cr, Ni and Cu, but the factor is below 1 in average of other metals.

농촌지역 조부모-손자녀 가정 유아의 양육에 대한 조부모의 어려움 (Grandparents' Difficulties in Rearing Grandchildren in South Jeolla Rural Areas)

  • This study purposed to survey grandparents' difficulties in parenting their grand children at grandparent-grandchild households in South Jeolla rural areas. This study was conducted through in-depth interviews from January to October, 2008. The subjects were eight grandparents living with their grandchildren in Boseong-gun, Gangjin-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, Hampyeong-gun, Haenam-gun and Damyang-gun in South Jeolla province. The results are as follows: the grandparents' difficulties in parenting grandchildren are divided into four categories of variable factors: 'Difficulties related to grandparents themselves'; 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren'; 'Difficulties related to early childhood education institution: and 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren's peer group or surrounding people'. The main difficulties in these categories are 'poor, aging and weak conditions of grandparents: 'conflicts in their parenting attitude to have compassion on grandchildren: 'grandparents' not enough educational support to grandchildren due to their ignorance about today's education system: and 'anxiety about the possibility for their grandchildren to be abandoned once again.' These results can be used as a piece of basic information for desirable supports to grandparent-grandchild households.

Genetic Distances of Paralichthys olivaceus Populations Investigated by PCR

  • The author carried out PCR-based genetic platform to investigate the hierarchical polar dendrogram of Euclidean genetic distances of one bastard halibut population, particularly for Paralichthys olivaceus, which was further connected with those of the other fish population, by involving with the precisely designed oligonucleotide primer sets. Eight oligonucleotides primers were used generating excessively alterating fragments, ranging in size of DNA bands from larger than approximately 100 bp to less than 2,000 bp. As regards average bandsharing value (BS) results, individuals from Hampyeong population (0.810) displayed lower bandsharing values than did individuals from Wando population (0.877). The genetic distance between individuals approved the existence of close relationship in the cluster II. Relatively, individuals of one bastard halibut population were fairly related to that of the other fish population, as shown in the polar hierarchical dendrogram of Euclidean genetic distances. The points of a noteworthy genetic distance between two P. olivaceus populations demonstrated this PCR procedure is one of the quite a few means for individuals and/or populations biological DNA investigates, for species security and proliferation of bastard halibut individuals in coastal region of the Korea.

군병원 환자의 근골격계손상과 군대활동과의 연관성에 관한 조사 (Causal Relationship between Military Activities and Musculoskeletal Injuries)

  • The current study investigated the causality between the musculoskeletal injuries of the patients who visited our military hospital and their military-related activities. The surgeon diagnosed the patients and let them answer the questionnaire on pain and causes from April 1, 2008 to May 30, 2008. The included 287 male patients were mean 21 years old(mean height 175 cm and mean weight 69.4Kgf). The visiting time after injury was mean 53 days. The visual analog scale of pain was mean 5.1 points. The 30% of visiting patients answered the most common cause of injury was the military training. The Most common site of injury was the knee, in 38% of patients(111 of 287). Seventy two percent of patients suspected the causality between their injuries and military activities. In military activities, a special stretching program before training, especially for the knee, is required to reduce musculoskeletal injuries. And, the injured military people have to access the medical treat as soon as possible.

『상한론(傷寒論)』 변병진단체계(辨病診斷體系)에 근거하여 치료한 음양이차후노복병(隂陽易差後勞復病) 증례 4례 (4 Case Reports of Eumyangyeokchahunobok-byung treated by Herbal medicine based on Shanghanlun provisions)

  • Objective : This study is to report 4 Eumyangyeokchahunobok-byung cases diagnosed and treated according to newly hypothesized Eumyangyeokchahunobok-byung definition based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods : We analyzed 4 clinical cases diagnosed with Eumyangyeokchahunobok-byung and treated by herbal medicine, which included in Eumyangyeokchahunobok-byung chapter of Shanghanlun according to newly hypothesized definition. Results : Dermatology Life Quality Index decreased from 25 to 10 on first patient, dizziness handicap inventory decreased from 64 to 2 on second patient, dizziness handicap inventory also decreased from 56 to 2 on third patient, and fatigue severity scale decreased from 7 to 2 on fourth patient. Conclusions : Not only all the patients' chief complaints relieved but their other clinical problems such as allergic rhinitis, body pain, constipation, reflux esophagitis also improved. These results highly insist that there is quite a possibility that Eumyangyeokchahunobokbyung means various diseases caused by reversed sleep cycle.

Computational Analysis of Apolipophorin-III in Hyphantria cunea

  • Recently a cDNA clone of apoLp-III from Hyphantria cunea was isolated and subjected to computational analysis to compare with other available sequences. Multiple sequence alignments were carried out using the amino acid sequences of apoLp-III from six insects. It was found that the H. cunea apoLp-III has relatively high sequence identities to Spodoptera litura ($69.5\%$), Manduca sexta ($66.8\%$), Galleria mellonella ($65.1\%$), Bombyx mori N4 ($54.3\%$) but less identity to Locusta migratoria ($18.3\%$). The amino acid composition was compared with other insects using EXPASY tools; it shows that alanine (Ala), glutamine (Gln), leucine (Leu) and lysine (Lys) are the major amino acid components of apoLp-III in H. cunea as well as other lepidopterans. Homology modeling performed using PSI-BLAST (PDB template M. sexta) reveals that the apoLp-III molecules consist of five, long amphipathic alpha helical bundles with short loops connecting the helices and shows homology with other insects. Phylogenetic analysis shows that the orthopteran apoLp-III represented by locust was most distantly related to the lepidopteran insects.

광주.전남지역 지역특산물에 대한 인지도 조사 - 강진지역 일부 주부들을 대상으로 - (A Study on the Perception of Local Special Food in Gwangju and Jeonnam Area - Focused on some Housewives in Gang Jin Region -)

  • This study investigated housewives' perception of local special foods in Gwangju and Jeonnam in Gang Jin. Of 150 questionnaires sent, there were 114 responses. The most perceptible local special foods in Gwangju and Jeonnam area are as follows: Watermelon in Gwangju (100.0%), Pear in Naju (90.0%), Rice in Suncheon (40.0%), Gorosoe in Gwangyang (76.7%), Hongeo in Mopko (63.3%), Dolsan leaf mustard Kimchi in Yeosu (100.0%), Sweet Persimmon in Jangseong (86.7%), Salted bamboo sprout in Damyang (46.7%), Apple in Gokseong (90.0%), Butterfly rice in Hampyeong (63.3%), Gorosoe in Gurye (56.7%), Onion in Muan (96.7%), Peach in Hwasun(40.0%), Dallmaji rice in Yeongam (50.0%), Oyster mushroom in Jangheung (63.3%), Green tea in Boseong(96.7%), Heuksanhongeo in Sinan (53.3%), Loess sweet potato in Haenam (83.3%), Kukija in Jindo (60.0%), Laver in Wando (76.7%), Tohajeot in GangJin (73.3%), Citron in Goheung (90.0%), and Gulbi in Yeonggwang (100.0%). The most perceptible area and local special foods in Gwangju and Jeonnam area were in the following order: Green tea in Boseong (17.37%), Tohajeot in GangJin (15.97%), Watermelon in GwangJu (10.0%), Pear in NaJu (9.3%), and Loess sweet potato in Haenam (9.3%).
