Songla (Usnea diffracta Vain.) is one of the lichens belonging to the genus Usnea, and pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and cardiovascular protection have been reported in previous studies, but its efficacy in skin and hair is not well known. In this study, the effect of Usnea diffracta extract (UDE) on anti-aging and dermal papilla cell proliferation was verified in vitro. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the UDE significantly reduced the expression of MMP-1 and the activity of MAPKs (ERK, p38, JNK) and AP-1 (c-Fos, c-Jun), which were increased by UVA in HDFn. In addition, the UDE significantly increased the proliferation of HFDPC and significantly increased the mRNA expression of VEGF and KGF, which are hair growth factors. Accordingly, the phosphorylation of ERK/CREB involved in hair proliferation and expression of growth factors was increased in a concentration-dependent manner. The main component represented by the main peak was separated and purified using Prep LC by concentrating the UDE, which was confirmed as diffractaic acid through NMR and Mess analysis. Isolated diffractaic acid significantly reduced the expression of MMP-1 increased by UVA in HDFn and increased the proliferation of HFDPC in a concentration-dependent manner. The result suggest that UDE proved its usability as a natural cosmetic material with anti-aging and dermal papilla cell activation effects.

Bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs) are secretory signal molecules which have a variety of regulatory functions during morphogenesis and cell differentiation. To evaluate roles of BMPs and their receptors on mouse sagittal suture development, we have examined their expression patterns in serial sections of sagittal sutures by in situ hybridization during embryonic stages(E15-E18). BMP-2 and BMP-3 were expressed in the osteogenic front and parietal bone on embryonic 15day, from E16 in hair follicle. BMP-4 was strongly expressed in the osteogenic front and weakly expressed in the mesenchyme and parietal bone. BMP-S was expressed in the hair follicles. BMP-6 was not expressed in this study. BMP-7 was expressed in parietal bone during embryonic stage. BMPR-IB was expressed in the osteogenic front, but BMPR-IA was not. From these datas, we suggest that the BMP-4 regulates the early commitment of mesenchymal cells to the osteogenic lineages, the BMP-2 and BMP-3 may be involved in regulating the differentiation of osteoblast precursor cells. BMP-7 was involved in maintenance of differentiated osteoblasts. BMPs were key signaling molecules that regulate early calvarial bone morphogenesis, mediated by BMPR-IB.

Purpose: This study aims to examine effect of microcurrent electrostimulation on burn healing by electric intensity and of which the electric intensity on the acute burn being cured with microcurrent electrostimulation therapy. Methods: 28 Sprague Dawley Rats is classified into a control group of 8 rats, an experimental group I of 10 rats and an experimental group II of 10 rats. The control group is not cured, the experimental group I is exposed to 10 Hz, and $100{\mu}A$ with microcurrent electrostimulation, and the experimental group II is exposed to 10 Hz, $300{\mu}A$ for 15 minutes a day. The next day, 2th, 4th, and 6th day after rats is burned. Result: There are not significant differences of length change of the burn cure between the control group, the experimental group I, and the experimental group II by a period. However, systematically hair follicle cell on the 2th day and epidermal cell on the 6th day turn up in the experimental group I, and the experimental group II. Inquiry: Nancy(1994) did not obtain the desired result when the skin of a pig is exposed to 0.1 Hz, and $100{\mu}A$ for wound healing. In the result of the study, when burn length is measured on the 2th, 4th, and 6th to see the length change of acute burn, there is not significant differences among 3 groups. Conclusion: Statistically, there is not significant differences of the length change between 3 groups. However, systematically the burn is cured faster in the experimental group I, and the experimental group II than in the contrast group.

There have been many trials to decrease the scar formation followed by wound treatment. $TGF-{\beta}$ plays a important role on wound healing in adult. Therefore the repression of $TGF-{\beta}$ expression will be helpful to decrease scar formation. Decorin is known to competitively inhibit $TGF-{\beta}$ expression. Decorin were subcutaneously administered in surgical wounds in rabbits to investigate the preventing effect of scar formation for clinical application. Histologic findings of wound healing progresses is similar with control and experimental group at 2week. $2.5{\mu}g$ decorin of administrated group was similar to those of control group at 4 and 8week. In wound healing process $10{\mu}g$ decorin of administrated groupsat showed that thickness of immature collagen fibers(scar) was decreased as compared with control group at 4, 8 weeks. $20{\mu}g$ decorin of administrated group showed similar histologic features to $10{\mu}g$ administrated group. The wounds of 8week experimental group(10, $20{\mu}g$) were completely recovered to the normal surrounding skin tissue including sweat gland and hair follicle. These results suggested that decorin can be of help to the prevention of local scar formation.
Vitiligo is an intriguing depigmentary disorder and is notoriously difficult to be treated. The ultimate goal of vitiligo treatment is to replenish the lost melanocytes by immigration from hair follicle and to restore the normal function of melanogenesis by residual melanocytes. There are two types of topical calcineurin inhibitors called tacrolimus and pimecrolimus, and are recommended as the first-line treatments in vitiligo. Although pimecrolimus is efficacious for the repigmentation of vitiligo, its intrinsic mechanisms have never been investigated in vitro. This research aimed to study the ability of pimecrolimus on stimulating melanogenesis, melanocyte migration and MITF (microphthalmia associated transcription factor) protein expression. Results showed that pimecrolimus at the dosages of 1, 10, $10^2$nM were neither mitogenic nor cytotoxic to melanocytes. The addition of pimecrolimus at 10, $10^2$ and $10^3nM$ significantly increased intracellular tyrosinase activity, which was consistent with the elevated content of melanin content at the same concentrations. The peak effect was seen at 72 h in response to $10^2$nM pimecrolimus. Results of the wound scratch assay and Transwell assays indicate that pimecrolimus is effective in facilitating melanocyte migration on a collagen IV-coated surface. In addition, MITF protein yield reached the highest by pimecrolimus at $10^2nM$. In brief, pimecrolimus enhances melanin synthesis as well as promotes migration of melanocytes directly, possibly via their effects on MITF protein expression.
A 5-year-old Pekinese dog was presented for evaluation of a back mass of 1 year duration. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the mass revealed numerous keratinocytes, and a lesser number of multinucleated giant cells along with a low number of spindle cells, which were suggestive of epidermal cyst or hair follicle tumor with secondary granulomatous inflammation. The mass was surgically removed and examined histologically. Microscopically there was partially encapsulated well-demarcated nodule in deep dermis and subcutis. The nodule consisted of central cyst and secondary cysts that were lined by a single or multiple layers of basaloid cells and squamous epitheliums with central laminated keratin. Multifocal aggregation of numerous macrophages and multinucleated giant cells were present. The final diagnosis was keratoacanthoma with granulomatous inflammation. The mass did not recur 5 months after surgery.

The aqueous Green tea comes to be used with the Oriental medicine plant, it has the numerous health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti- carcinogenic properties. Epidermal progenitor cells give rise to multiple skin lineages: hair follicle, sebaceous gland and the overlying interfollicular epidermis. Sebocytes are the cells of the sebaceous gland, which synthesize and accumulate lipid dropolets. In order to determine the effect of Green tea on lipid production, several experiments were performed in SZ95 cells (sebocytes). We found that Green tea increased lipid droplets compared with control in a dose-dependent manner. Human sebaceous glands produce sebum, a lipid mixture of squalene, wax esters, triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and free fatty acids that is secreted onto the skin. Therefore, to investigate the effects of Green tea on intracellular lipid levels, we treated SZ95 cells with Green tea, and then examined cholesterol and triglyceride levels. After treatment of the cells with Green tea, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels of SZ95 cells were increased significantly in a dose-dependent manner.

Epidermoid cysts presents as a nodular and fluctuant subcutaneous lesion beneath the skin and are most common in acne-prone areas of the head, neck and back. This cyst often arises after localized inflammation of the hair follicle and occasionally after the implantation of epithelium following trauma and surgery including a biopsy procedure. It is often associated with Gardner syndrome, particularly before puberty. The lesion is normally treated by a surgical excision or enucleation, and recurrence is uncommon. A 27 year old woman complained of a swelling of the left parotid gland when she visited our clinic. A cystic lesion was found in the left parotid gland from the high signal intensity on the MR images. Ultrasonography showed that the cystic lesion was heterogeneous echogenic. Six months earlier, botulinum toxin was injected in her left masseter muscles six months earlier and progressive swelling of the left parotid area was noticed four months after treatment. The lesion was surgically removed. It was encapsulated by a thin wall and filled mainly with keratin. The final diagnosis was an epidermoid cyst.
Gingko biloba is one of the oldest trees on earth. It can be traced 300 million years or more into past. In recent years, this tree has become increasingly popular because of its longevity. Amount of comsumption of Gingko leaves in Korea is increased to produce drugs for blood circulating system's disorder. The workers who work at the company of product drug with Gingko leaves complain pruritus at belt position of west, however toxic substance from extracts of Gingko biloba was carried out to determine what kind of the toxic substance from extract could induce a contact dermatitis by means of histopathological study. Dried leaves of Korean G. biloba were exhaustively extracted with chloroform. The aqueous chloroform residue was extracted with hexane. After evaporation, the hexane extract was passed through a silica gel column chromatography, it was separated into 9 fractions by means of gradient solvent (benzene: acetone/ 98~93 : 2~7%). The 4th and 7th fraction were idendified as bilibol and gingkolic acid by silica gel thin layer chromatography and NMR spectrophotometer. The 4th and 7th fractions of Korean Gingko leaves have an irritant substances which can be induced ear swelling and increased thickness of stratum cornium of rabbit ear exposed with the fractions (3 time/3 day, $100{\mu}l$ of 50mg/ml ethyl alcohol). In the 4th fraction, the substance have induced the surface of ear to swell and mass of unknown cell like inflammatory cell were infiltrated within the stratum corneum, and the 7th fraction have the surface of ear to loss the hairs, and sebaceous gland and follicle of hair were infiltrated with inflammatory cells. and other fractions at all did not induced a certain contact dermatitis and also Deutschen drug of Gingko (named as Gerigeron) have induced the contact dermatitis such as dematitis of Korean Gingko extract.

The mechanism by which 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) bypasses cellular senescence was investigated using human diploid fibroblast (HDF) cell replicative senescence as a model. Upon TPA treatment, protein kinase C (PKC) ${\alpha}$ and $PKC{\beta}1$ exerted differential effects on the nuclear translocation of cytoplasmic pErk1/2, a protein which maintains senescence. $PKC{\alpha}$ accompanied pErk1/2 to the nucleus after freeing it from $PEA-15pS^{104}$ via $PKC{\beta}1$ and then was rapidly ubiquitinated and degraded within the nucleus. Mitogen-activated protein kinase docking motif and kinase activity of $PKC{\alpha}$ were both required for pErk1/2 transport to the nucleus. Repetitive exposure of mouse skin to TPA downregulated $PKC{\alpha}$ expression and increased epidermal and hair follicle cell proliferation. Thus, $PKC{\alpha}$ downregulation is accompanied by in vivo cell proliferation, as evidenced in 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-TPA-mediated carcinogenesis. The ability of TPA to reverse senescence was further demonstrated in old HDF cells using RNA-sequencing analyses in which TPA-induced nuclear $PKC{\alpha}$ degradation freed nuclear pErk1/2 to induce cell proliferation and facilitated the recovery of mitochondrial energy metabolism. Our data indicate that TPA-induced senescence reversal and carcinogenesis promotion share the same molecular pathway. Loss of $PKC{\alpha}$ expression following TPA treatment reduces pErk1/2-activated SP1 biding to the $p21^{WAF1}$ gene promoter, thus preventing senescence onset and overcoming G1/S cell cycle arrest in senescent cells.
