DKY is an oriental drug preparation composed of 17 natural products and is known to have antihyperglycemic action at 100 mg/kg po in animal tests. The general pharmacological properties of DKY preparation were investigate in mice, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits. This preparation did neither show any effects on central nervous system, nor effects on algesia, nor epilepsia at the large doses of 3000 mg/kg po in mice or rats. However, the preparation showed hypothermic action at the doses of 330 and 1000 mg/kg po. In the guinea pig ileum, rat fundus strip and estrogenized rat uterus, DKY did not influence their tension at a concentration of 3$\times$10$^{-3}$ g/ml, and the spasmogenic actions produced by histamine, ACh and 5-HT were not blocked in the presence of DKY at 3$\times$10$^{-3}$ g/ml. The blood pressure and respiration were not considerably influenced at 10 mg/kg iv of DKY in rabbits. It did not influence the intestinal propulsion of mice and the normal gastric secretion of rats. These results may suggest that DKY preparation have little effects on central nervous, autonomic and gastrointestimal systems, except hypothermic action.
In the present study, we investigated the effects of chronic green tea consumption on the serum lipid profiles of 92 subjects (mean age: 59.5 $\pm$ 8.9, men: 41, women:51) living in a green tea cultivation village. The anthropometric and biochemical blood indices were measured, and nutritional intakes were assessed using 24-h recall method. Also, we administered a questionnaire regarding green tea consumption. The subjects were divided into three groups based on the period of green tea consumption (0, < 10 year, and $\geq$ 10 year). There were no significant differences in age, anthropometric indices (Wt, Ht, BMI, Body fat, LBM), and nutritional intakes among the groups. Serum LDL-cholesterol concentration was significantly lower in the $\geq$ 10 year group compared with the other groups (p < 0.05). Also, the LDL/HDL-cholesterol ratio was significantly lower in the $\geq$ 10 year group compared with the other groups (p < 0.05). The frequency of subjects with a normal range of serum LDL-cholesterol concentration (< 200 mg/dl) was significantly higher in the $\geq$ 10 year group compared with the other groups (p < 0.05). These results imply positive effects of chronic green tea consumption on blood lipid profiles, which requires confirmation in further studies.
Eight compounds, squalene (1), friedelin (2), ${\beta}$-sitosterol (3), ${\beta}$-sitosterol-3-O-glucoside (4), ${\alpha}$-tocopherol (5), betulinic acid (6), trilinolein (7) and 1-O-(9Z,12Z-Octadecadienoyl)-3-nonadecanoyl glycerol (8), were isolated from the barks of Tilia amurensis. Their chemical structures were identified by comparing their physicochemical and spectral data with those published in the literature. These isolated compounds were examined for their inhibitory activities against topoisomerase I and II. Compound 7 showed significant inhibition of DNA topoisomerase I and II activities, with percent decreases in activity of 87 and 95%, respectively at a concentration of $100\;{\mu}M$. Compound 6 exhibited cytotoxicity against the human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (HT-29), the human breast adenocarcinoma cell line (MCF-7) and the human liver hepatoblastoma cell line (HepG-2), with $IC_{50}$ values of 20, 59 and $16\;{\mu}M$, respectively.
As a continuation of Part I, which developed a design formula of the minimum corner radius (Rmin) for restraining tribological failures, Part II investigates design parameters such as material properties and contact force. As design examples, Al 7075-T651, SST 304 and HT-9 are chosen for the materials and 1, 10 and 100 kN are used for the forces. The results show that the difference in Rmin decreases as either the elastic modulus increases or the contact force decreases. Given the same material and force, the permissible Rmin decreases as the flat region increases and vice versa. Because the Rmin values obtained from the examples are very small, the dimensions of the corner radius normally designed in engineering structures are regarded acceptable. The von Mises stress evaluated for a typical example, which is far below the yield strength, confirms this interpretation. Nevertheless, the present work can provide a design criterion as well as a guideline for quality control in the manufacturing of, in particular, contact corners, which has not been attempted before to the best of the author’s knowledge. In addition, this paper considers the problem of a step that may be formed in the contact contour by using a similar approach. The result shows that no size of the step is permissible.

Metal fuel is being developed for the prototype generation-IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR) to be built by 2028. U-Zr fuel is a driver for the initial core of the PGSFR, and U-transuranics (TRU)-Zr fuel will gradually replace U-Zr fuel through its qualification in the PGSFR. Based on the vast worldwide experiences of U-Zr fuel, work on U-Zr fuel is focused on fuel design, fabrication of fuel components, and fuel verification tests. U-TRU-Zr fuel uses TRU recovered through pyroelectrochemical processing of spent PWR (pressurized water reactor) fuels, which contains highly radioactive minor actinides and chemically active lanthanide or rare earth elements as carryover impurities. An advanced fuel slug casting system, which can prevent vaporization of volatile elements through a control of the atmospheric pressure of the casting chamber and also deal with chemically active lanthanide elements using protective coatings in the casting crucible, was developed. Fuel cladding of the ferritic-martensitic steel FC92, which has higher mechanical strength at a high temperature than conventional HT9 cladding, was developed and fabricated, and is being irradiated in the fast reactor.

To investigate the capacity of anti-inflammatory cytokines and biological response modifiers (BRMs) to induce IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ gene overexpression from mouse macrophages, we isolated the resident peritoneal macrophages from BALB/c mouse (8 week old) and incubated for 6 h with lipopolysaccaride (LPS) and Moschus moschiferus (MOMS) extracts. Analysis of inflammatory cytokines gene expression was carried out by RT-PCR amplification. Amplified PCR products were electrophoresed on 1.2% agarose gel, and the analysis (Ht) was used to 1D-density program. 1. LPS and MOMS extract treatments resulted in a significant decrease in IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA expression level compared with the LPS treatment. 2. Among four sample of MOMS, Inhibitory effects of MOMS-A and MOMS-D for inflammatory cytokines gene expression were to be fine compared with the MOMS-Band MOMS-C. According to the above data, Because the anti- tumoral and anti-inflammatory response activities of macrophage are known to be dependent on the production of inflammatory cytokines (IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$) by macrophages, we suggest that evaluations of BRM for the reduction of inflammatory cytokines production by macrophages are important for clinical application.

To evaluate the antitumor activity and antimetastatic effects of Gobongeerlhobang(GG1B), studies were done experimentally. The results were obtained as follows: 1. GG1B extracts exhibited a significant cytotoxicity against HT1080, A549, SK-MEL-2 and SK-OV-3 cell lines. 2. The T/C% was 120.7% in GG1B treated group in S-180 bearing ICR mice. 3. GG1B extracts exhibited inefficient adhesive effect of A549, B16-BL6 cell to complex extracellular matrix. 4. GG1B extracts showed a significant inhibition of lung metastasis of B16-BL6 cells in C57BL/6. 5. In CAM assays, angiogenesis was insignificantly inhibited in GG1B treated group than control group. These results suggested that GG1B extracts might be usefully applied for prevention and treatment of cancer.
This study was performed to examine the antimutagenic and cytotoxic effects of potato vinegar and commercial vinegars(cider, brown rice, persimmon vinegars) on Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100 and cancer cell lines using Ames test and cytotoxicity assay, respectively. In Ames test, all vinegars did notexhibit any mutagenicity , but showed substantial inhibitory effects against N- methyl - N -nitro - N- nitrosog -uanidine(MNNG) , 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide(4NQO), 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido(4,3-b)indol(Trp-P-1)and benzo( $\alpha$ )pyrene(B( $\alpha$ )P). The number of revertants per plate decreased significantly when these vinegars(80 ug/plate) were added to the assay system using TA100 strain. Especially, potato vinegar(80 ug/plate) showed high inhibition rate of 69.9% against mutagenicity of B( $\alpha$ )P on TA100 strain. In the cytotoxicity assay, these vinegars also showed prominent cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines. Potato vinegar(10 ug/well) showed the strongest cytotoxic effect against HT1080 (fibrosacoma cell) andK562 ( myelogenous leukemia) at the same concentration when compared with other vinegars.
The Korean Prototype Gen-IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR) is supposed to be loaded with a relatively-costly low-enriched U fuel, while its envisaged transuranic fuels are not available for transmutation. In this work, the U-enrichment reduction by improving the neutron economy is pursued to save the fuel cost. To improve the neutron economy of the core, a new reflector material, PbO, has been introduced to replace the conventional HT9 reflector in the current PGSFR core. Two types of PbO reflectors are considered: one is the conventional pin-type and the other one is an inverted configuration. The inverted PbO reflector design is intended to maximize the PbO volume fraction in the reflector assembly. In addition, the core radial configuration is also modified to maximize the performance of the PbO reflector. For the baseline PGSFR core with several reflector options, the U enrichment requirement has been analyzed and the fuel depletion analysis is performed to derive the equilibrium cycle parameters. The linear reactivity model is used to determine the equilibrium cycle performances of the core. Impacts of the new PbO reflectors are characterized in terms of the cycle length, neutron leakage, radial power distribution, and operational fuel cost.
