  • Harmony search(HS) does not use the evaluation of individual harmony when referring to HM when constructing a new harmony, but particle swarm optimization(PSO), on the contrary, uses the evaluation value of individual particles and the evaluation value of the population to find a solution. However, in this study, we tried to improve the performance of the algorithm by finding and identifying similarities between HS and PSO and applying the particle improvement process of PSO to HS. To apply the PSO algorithm, the local best of individual particles and the global best of the swam are required. In this study, the process of HS improving the worst harmony in harmony memory(HM) was viewed as a process very similar to that of PSO. Therefore, the worst harmony of HM was regarded as the local best of a particle, and the best harmony was regarded as the global best of swam. In this way, the performance of the HS was improved by introducing the particle improvement process of the PSO into the HS harmony improvement process. The results of this study were confirmed by comparing examples of optimization values for various functions. As a result, it was found that the suggested HS-PSO was much better than the existing HS in terms of accuracy and consistency.

  • HS-1580 series (HS-1580, HS-1581, HS-1582) can produce anti-imflammatory effects were synthesized from the marine algae extraction in 2,3,6-tribromo-4,5-dihydroxy benzyl methyl ether (TDB). Raw 264.7 cells were pre-treated with $1{\mu}g/{\mu}l$ lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and later treated with HS-1580 series. These cells of inflammatory mediators were tested as well. Nitric oxide (NO) is related to autoimmune disease and is produced by inducible NOS (iNOS). When treated with HS-1580 series, the product of NO will reduce in a dose-dependent manner. HS-1580 series significantly inhibit the iNOS protein expression. Cyclooxygenase (COX) involves with the various physiologic events and catalyzes in prostaglandin. HS-1580 series also inhibit the COX-2 protein expression as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines production such as tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}\;(TNF-{\alpha})\;and\;interluekin-1{\alpha]\;(IL-1{\beta})$. These upcoming results suggest that HS-1580 series have anti-inflammatory efforts in Raw 264.7 cells by inhibiting such as iNOS, COX-2, $TNF-{\alpha}\;and\;IL-1{\beta}$ as inflammatory mediators.

  • This study discusses numerically-explored thermal performances of hybrid fin heat sinks (HF HSs) for lightweight thermal management of LED modules under natural convection. A hollow hybrid fin heat sink (HHF HS) and a solid hybrid fin heat sink (SHF HS) are proposed as HF HSs. A 3-D CFD analysis has been carefully conducted to obtain reliable numerical results. The 3-D CFD study investigates the effects of both fin spacing and an internal channel diameter on performances of the HHF HS and the SHF HS. The study results show that the mass-based thermal resistance of the HHF HS is 20~32% smaller compared with the pin fin heat sink (PF HS). The results also show that the mass-based thermal resistance of the HHF HS decreases with the increase of the channel diameter. These results are mainly due to coupled effects of the mass reduction and heat pumping through an internal channel. Considerably superior mass-based thermal performances of the HHF HS to the conventional PF HS suggest the feasible application for the lightweight thermal management of the LED modules under natural convection.

  • In the present study, we characterized the function of HS1-binding protein 3 (HS1BP3), which is mutated in essential tremor and may be involved in lymphocyte activation. We found that HS1BP3 localized to the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum partially. Overexpression of HS1BP3 induced apoptosis in HEK293T and HeLa cell lines. When these cell lines were transfected with HS1BP3, they exhibited nuclear DNA condensation, externalization of phosphatidylserine (PS), and cleavage of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP). Furthermore, suppression of HS1BP3 or HS1 expression attenuates HS1BP3 induced apoptosis. In addition, HS1BP3 enhanced activator protein 1 (AP-1)-mediated transcription in a dose-dependent manner. Therefore, we conclude that HS1BP3 regulates apoptosis via HS1 and stimulates AP-1-mediated transcription.

  • Recently, Hyper-Star network HS(m,k) which improves the network cost of hypercube has been proposed. In this paper, we show that the bisection width of regular Hyper-Star network HS(2n,n) is maximum (2n-2,n-1). Using the concept of container, we also show that k-wide diameter of HS(2n,n) is less than dist(u,v)+4, and the fault diameter is less than D(HS(2n,n))+2, where dist(u,v) is the shortest path length between any two nodes u and v in HS(2n,n), and D(HS(2n,n)) is its diameter.

  • Lysobacter antibioticus HS124 was isolated from rhizosphere soil in previous experiments, which produced lytic enzymes such as chitinase, gelatinase, lipase and protease. In addition, HS124 released an antibiotic compound, 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (4-HPAA). When larvae of P. xylostella was treated with HS124 culture broth, its body was destroyed, and degraded with the increase of incubation time, yielding glycine which was detected from HS124 culture broth. When 4-HPAA produced from HS124 was sprayed, larvae mortality increased with increasing concentration of 4-HPAA. When HS124 culture supplemented with Tween 80 was sprayed, its insecticidal activity against larvae was approximately 1.4 times higher compared to the culture without Tween 80. Insecticide (IS), HS124 culture broth (HS124), Magic-pi (MP) and HS124 culture broth+Magic-pi (HS124+MP) were each treated against larvae of P. xylostella to investigate their insecticidal effect where sterile diluted water (SDW) was used as a control. The highest mortality of larvae was found in HS124+MP, followed by IS, MP, HS124 and SDW respectively. Mortality of larvae in HS124 was 31% higher than that in SDW, but 41% lower than that in HS124+MP, meaning that both enzymes and antibiotics produced from HS124 may synergistically act as active agents with plant extract containing neem oil and turmeric in HS124+MP treatment. These results suggested that L. antibioticus HS124 together with plant extract can be one of candidates for biocontrol agents against Plutella xylostella.

  • This paper is an attempt to analyze the comparative advantage of Busan Port to China. For this, we use the market comparative advantage index, which is a version of the revealed comparative advantage index. The market comparative advantage index (MCA) uses trade patterns to identify the sectors in which a region has a comparative advantage, in this case by comparing Busan Port's trade profile with the world average (China). The indices are calculated at the commodity level of the HS four-digit classification. The export data used in this study are obtained from the Korea International Trade Association. Exports to China accounted for almost one third of Korean exports in 2014. There are, however, structural differences among the main export items of Busan Port. This paper, therefore, employs MCA indices to reveal the behaviors of the ten main export items, which are "HS3920-other plates/sheets/film/foil of plastics," "HS7606-aluminum plates/sheets/strip," "HS8479-unspecified machines/medical appliances," "HS8486-machines for semiconductor devices or wafers," "HS8529-parts for transmission apparatus for television," "HS8703-motor vehicles for the transport of persons," "HS8708-parts of motor vehicles," "HS9001-optical fibers," and "HS9013-liquid crystal devices." The study shows that export competitiveness of nine items increases, the exception being HS8703. However, China's import ratios of seven of the nine items for which the MCA indices go up are on the decrease, which means that it would be hard to expand the export market for these seven items, despite the higher MCA indices. Since the shares of the port's total exports to China of HS3907, HS8486, HS8529, HS9001, and HS9013 in total exports to China increase together with China's import ratio decreasing, these items may have promising export markets. MCA increases of HS7606 and HS8479 are attributable to China's lower import ratio, rather than a higher export share, so higher MCA indices do not guarantee higher export competitiveness for these items.

  • Human serum (HS) has been reported to induce aggregation of human eyelid adipose-derived stem cells (HEACs) during high-density culture in vitro. The present study focused on the role of cell adhesion molecules and gelatinases during HS-induced aggregation of HEACs. HS-induced aggregation occurred between 9-15 days of culture. Cells aggregated by HS medium (HS-agg) showed stronger expression of ${\alpha}2$, ${\alpha}2B$, ${\alpha}X$, and CEACAM1 genes compared to non-aggregated cells in HS medium (HS-ex) or in control FBS-cultured cells. HS-agg were distinctly labeled with antibodies against ${\alpha}2$, ${\alpha}2B$, and ${\alpha}X$ proteins. Western blot results demonstrated that the two integrin proteins were greatly expressed in HS-agg compared to HS-ex and control FBS-cultured cells. Treatment of HEACs with anti-integrin ${\alpha}2$ antibody during culture in HS medium delayed aggregation formation. HS-agg exhibited strong expression of MMP1 and MMP9 compared to HS-ex or FBS-cultured cells. Conditioned media from HS-culture showed remarkable increase of MMP9 gelatinolytic activity in comparison to those from FBS-culture. However, there was no change of TIMP mRNA expression in relation to the HS-induced aggregation. Based on these results, it is suggested that integrin ${\alpha}2$, ${\alpha}2B$, and ${\alpha}X$, and MMP9 might play an important role in the HS-induced aggregation of HEACs.

  • Diesel oil-degrading bacterial strains were isolated from diesel oil contaminated soil and called HS series (HS1, HS2 and HS3). These strains were identified as Acinetobacter sp. (HS1) and Pseudomonas sp. (HS2 and HS3) based on Biolog test, cellular fatty acid composition, and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. These strains were coltivated in liquid minimal media containing 2% diesel oil, and diesel oil-degrading activity was measured. As result, all strains degraded over 70% of total diesel oil. But PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon)- and pris- tane-degrading rate of these strain was below 20% of total PAH and pristane. The HS 1 strain showed highest hydrophobicity and low emulsifying activity among the experimental strains and high diesel oil-degrading activity. From the above-mentioned result, microcosm experiment was performed with the HS1 strain. The HS1 strain showed a degrading activity of over 80% of total diesel oil in microcosm test. And microbial activity was correlated to diesel oil-degrading activity. Therefore, it is suggested that the HS1 strains could be effectively used for the bioremediation for diesel oil.
