This paper deal with basic concept of Hardware In the Loop System(HILS) for hydraulic excavator. Hydraulic excavator has many nonlinearities because of P-Q diagram, dead zone and saturation of valve, single acting cylinder, heavy manipulator. So, actual test is needed when new component or control algorithm is developed but many restrictions exist. Hydraulic circuit of excavator is too complex to model mathematically but dynamic equation of manipulator has made good progress in previous studies. Basic concept of HILS and AMESim model of hydraulic components is contained in this paper.
HILS(Hardware In-the-Loop Simulation) is an effective tool for design, performance evaluation and test of developed vehicle subsystems such as ABS(Antilock Brake System), suspension, and steering systems. This paper describes a HILS model for an ABS/ASR application. Also the implementation of HILS system for performance test of the ABS ECU(Electronic Control Unit) for commercial vehicles is presented.
As the vehicle electronic control technology quickly grows and becomes more sophisticated, a more efficient means than the traditional in-vehicle driving test is required for the design, testing, and tuning of electronic control units (ECU). For this purpose, the hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) scheme is very promising, since significant portions of actual driving test procedures can be replaced by HIL simulation. The HILS incorporates hardware components in the numerical simulation environment, and this yields results with better credibility than pure numerical simulations can offer. In this study, a HILS system has been developed for ESP (Electronic Stability Program) ECUs. The system consists of the hardware component, which that includes the hydraulic brake mechanism and an ESP ECU, the software component, which virtually implements vehicle dynamics with visualization, and the interface component, which links these two parts together. The validity of HIL simulation is largely contingent upon the accuracy of the vehicle model. To account for this, the HILS system in this research used the commercial software CarSim to generate a detailed full vehicle model, and its parameters were set by using design data, SPMD (Suspension Parameter Measurement Device) data, and data from actual vehicle tests. Using the developed HILS system, performance of a commercial ESP ECU was evaluated for a virtual vehicle under various driving conditions. This HILS system, with its reliability, will be used in various applications that include durability testing, benchmarking and comparison of commercial ECUs, and detection of fault and malfunction of ESP ECUs.

The telegraph controller is a device used to control the speed of a ship, and it is a device that has a very direct effect on the safety of the crew. Accordingly, ship owners demand very high reliability of the telegraph controller, and the classification trend is to introduce HILS (hardware in loop system) test as a method to verify reliability. Therefore, in this paper, an electric propulsion ship was modeled to perform the HILS test of the Telegraph controller. For modeling, the specifications of the electric propulsion tug boat were defined, and the battery parts, propulsion motor parts, and ship model parts were modeled. In addition, various operation scenarios were defined and the Telegraph controller was modeled accordingly. Finally, the results of the integrated model were confirmed through simulation.

Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS) that mostly provides safety-critical and mission-critical services requires high reliability, so that system testing is an essential and important process. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) is one of the extensively used techniques for testing hardware systems. However, most conventional HILS has problems that it is difficult to support a distributed operating environment and to reuse a HILS platform. In this paper, we introduce EcoHILS(ETRI CPS Open Human-Interactive hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator) in order to test CPS effectively. Moreover, feasibility tests and performance tests of EcoHILS are performed to confirm its effectiveness.

A microgrid is a small scale power system. The microgrid is operated in two operation modes, the grid-connected mode and the islanded mode. In the islanded mode, the frequency of a microgrid should be maintained constantly. For this, the balance between power supply and power demand during islanded mode should be met. In general, energy storage systems (ESSs) are used to solve power imbalance. In this paper, the frequency control effect of a Lithium-ion battery energy storage system (Li-ion BESS) has been tested on the hardware-in-the loop simulation (HILS) system environment.

Korea High Speed Train(KHST) is supposed to run up 350km/h, in which the braking system has a crucial role for the safety of the train. In the design st데 of the braking system, its very hard to ac-quire information data for design guidelines. A HILS(Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) system can be used to get design data which could simulate the braking system of the real train in real-time. In this paper, cars are modelled including car dynamics, brake blending algorithms, pneumatic actuator dynamics, the models of each braking devices, adhesive coefficients, and soon. Real-time braking time, distance, and other design parameters are simulated using a DSP board and C language which shows the validity of the proposed method.
In this study, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) environment was established using MATLAB/Simulink to simulate and verify the power performance of a wind turbine. The target wind turbine was selected as the NREL 5 MW model, and modeling was performed based on the disclosed specifications. The HILS environment consists of a PC equipped with a MATLAB/Simulink program, a programmable logic controller (PLC) for uploading and linking control algorithms, and data acquisition (DAQ) equipment to manage wind turbine data input and output. The operation of the HILS environment was carried out as a procedure of operation (PC) of the target wind turbine modeled based on MATLAB/Simulink, data acquisition (PLC) of control algorithms, control command calculation (PLC), and control command input (PC). The simulation was performed using the HILS environment under turbulent wind conditions and compared with the simulation results performed under the same conditions in the HILS environment using the commercial program Bladed for performance verification. From the comparison, it was found that the dynamic simulation results of the Bladed HILS and the MATLAB HILS were close in power performances and the errors in the average values of rotor rotation speed and power generation between the two simulations were about 0.44 % and 3.3 %, respectively.

In this work, infrared targets for a developed hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS) system are proposed for a performance test of a dual-sensor imaging seeker equipped with an infrared and a visible sensor that can lock and track for ground and air targets. This integrated system is composed of 100 modules of heat and light sources to simulate various kinds of target and the trajectory of moving targets based on scenarios. It is possible to simulate not only the position, velocity, and direction for these targets but also background clutter and jamming environments. The design and measurement results of an infrared target, such as the HILS system configuration, developed for testing and evaluation of a dual-sensor imaging seeker are described. In the future, it is planned to test the lock-on and tracking performance of an imaging seeker equipped with single or dual sensors dynamically in real time based on a simulation flight scenario in the developed HILS system.

In this paper, decoupled controller design for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV) and its simulated performance test results and Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) results are presented. Control system design is done using the PD control scheme. Stability analysis and step response of closed loop system under uncertain parameter condition are also presented. The results of full coupled nonlinear model simulation show the well applicability of the designed controller. From the results of HILS, we can verify performance of real time processing and implemented hardware for AUV.
