  • A low-cost electronic ballast using a conventional HID controller IC is proposed. The proposed ballast consists of high frequency DC-DC converter, low frequency DC-AC inverter, and igniter circuit. This ballast shows hot-restrike, suitable operation at each stage of various lamp state and stable operation in steady-state.

  • 본 논문에서는 고압 방전등을 위한 2단 저주파식 구형파 전자식 안정기를 제안한다. 안정기는 저주파수 구형파 전류를 램프에게 공급하기 위해 인버터와 PFC 단으로 이루어져 있다. 저주파수로 구동하기 때문에 음향 공진 현상은 발생하지 않는다. 그러나 저주파수 극성 반전시 스파이크 전류가 발생하게 되는데 램프전류에 더해져서 흐르기 때문에 램프의 정격 전력 특성에 나쁜 영향을 미치게 된다. 이에 대한 대책으로 새로운 제어 방식이 안정기를 제안하였다. 제안된 안정기는 HID 램프를 위해 150W의 프로토타입 안정기로부터 시뮬레이션 및 실험적인 결과들에 의해 검증하게 된다.

  • The metal halide lamps are now widely used in the application and commercial lighting due to their attracting properties such as good color rendering and high efficiency. But, they have the serious problem of acoustic resonance for high frequency operation and they need the high voltage to ignite. So, they have not been applied to indoors. Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the electronic ballast together with hot restarting and resonance phenomenon. But, Very few attempts have been made with the adaptive ignition method according to the lamp state. In this paper, electronic ballast is proposed for metal halide lamps with an igniter for adaptive ignition. The proposed electronic ballast can generate different ignition voltages according to the arc tube state.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of an HID lamp ballast for a fast turn on characteristics and stable operation. It produces a high open circuit voltage for the ignition and it is controlled to supply effectively the power required to shorten the warm-up period after the breakdown. The lamp modeling by empirical data is presented. It is very effective in the designing of the control loop in the steady-state operating region. A stable operation of the lamp power regulation in the steady state is achieved, which is crucial for the long life time and constant light output. Stability analysis of the system is performed and the results are verified through various simulation results and the hardware experiments.

  • 본 논문은 Full bridge 방식의 LC 병렬구조를 갖는 400watt HID용 전자식 안정기 구조에 대한 해석과 항상 HID 램프가 일정한 출력을 갖도록 하는 제어 방법에 대해 다루었다. 전자식 안정기의 구조는 LC 병렬구조이다. 램프에 흐르는 전류값에 따라서 전자식 안정기의 동작주파수가 가변되는 구조를 가지고 있어, 램프 점등 초기에는 동작 주파수가 높다가 안정상태로 들어가면 주파수가 떨어지는 특성을 지니고 있다.

  • We have studied the loss characteristics of the electronic ballast for the 250 watt HID lamps. The researched electronic ballast has a low loss, a low THD for input current and the other reliable characteristics. By the experrimental results and the analytical method, we concluded that the switching devices loss is 33%, and the Inductances loss is 42.6% of the total losses.

  • 본 논문에서는 마이크로파로 여기 시켜 방전하는 고출력 무전극 HID 황 램프와 다른 발광 물질의 광학적 특성을 설명하고, 특히 원편파를 이용하여 정지된 램프에서 방전시켜 광학적 특성을 측정하였다. 그리고 순수 황에 특정 화합물을 첨가하여 색도를 조절하여 연색성 지수를 순수 황보다 좋게 할 수 있었다.

  • This paper presents a microprocessor controlled digital ballast for HID lamps, which gives intelligent features such as a precise power control, optimum ignition voltage and detection of end of life. Average current mode PFC is employed for reducing EMI and a universal input. Direct spread spectrum is done by applying 1 KHz triangular wave for removing acoustic resonance. This frequency modulation of 1 KHz gives also low EMI level and no ripple on lamp current. The microprocessor controls the voltage of DC-bus, the voltage of ignition pulses, the power of output and the bandwidth of spread spectrum. A 250W digital ballast is implemented with an efficiency of 93% and a maximum EMI level of 55 ㏈${\mu}$V.

  • 본 논문은 기존 250W HID-Lamp용 조도 제어형 자기식 안정기의 기계식 릴레이를 이용한 ZCS(Zero Current Switching) 방법을 제안하였다. 램프의 영 전류를 검출하고, MCU를 이용하여 기계식 릴레이의 스위치 on/off시간을 제어하였다. 이 ZCS방법을 실험을 통하여 타당성을 입증하였다.

  • Today there is an ever increasing effort to control high-pressure discharge lamps with electronic ballast. HID lamps can be ignited by high-voltage pulses and need an ignitor to start them. An ignitor gives high-voltage pulses to HID lamps which have the type of the arc discharge. Three kinds of ignitor circuits have been analyzed by the P-spice program and we have shown experimental results in this paper. The result of this study seems to be able to help to develope various ignitors.
