Development of the EM Wave Absorber for the Hi-pass Using Amorphous Powder (비정질 재료를 이용한 Hi-pass용 전파흡수체 개발)

  • Recently, Hi-pass system(non-stop electric toll collection) using DSRC is working. However, it has various problems such as system errors by EM wave interference or multi-path reflection. The EM wave absorber is able to solve these problems. In this paper, we designed and fabricated EM wave absorber using amorphous substance. As a result EM wave absorber with composition of amorphous metal powder:CPE=45:55 wt.% has the thickness of 2.65 mm and absorption ability was higher than 40 dB at 5.8 GHz.

Correlations in the results of virus neutralization test, hemagglutination inhibition test, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to determine infectious bronchitis virus vaccine potency

  • The virus neutralization (VN) test was used to determine potency of the infectious bronchitis (IB) vaccine. The results of VN, hemagglutination inhibition (HI), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were compared with those of the IBV M41. The $r^2$ values between VN and HI titers and the ELISA antibody titer were 0.8782 and 0.0336, respectively, indicating a high correlation between VN and HI, but not VN and ELISA. The Cohen's kappa coefficient between the VN titer of 2 $log_{10}$ and HI titer of 5 $log_2$ was 0.909. Our results showed that VN could be replaced with HI for testing the potency of IBV M41.

ShK: A Mobile Contents for Studying English Stories of Children (ShK: 모바일 어린이 영어동화학습 콘텐츠)

  • Recently, the mobile retention and use rates for the children are increasing. And early-childhood english education is all the rage. Thus, we propose a mobile contents for studying english stories of children. The proposed content provides children with studying english via a mobile phone in anywhere, anytime. We call the proposed contents "ShK". ShK is an abbreviation for "Say, hi Kids!". ShK induces a motive and interest about studying through a storytelling and avatars. And parents of students can manage studying contents of children through a private web site. Thus, "Say, hi Kids!" will became the epochal ubiquitous english educational contents for children.

  • The interstellar medium (ISM) of galaxies in the galaxy cluster can well be affected by the intracluster medium (ICM). Among many suggested environmental processes, ram pressure stripping can effectively remove gas through the interaction with the ICM. In fact, Cluster galaxies are lower in HI gas mass compared to their field counterparts, and in recent high resolution HI imaging studies, many galaxies in dense environments have been found to be ram pressure stripped in HI. However, it is still under debate whether the ICM pressure can also remove dense molecular gas from the galactic disk, which plays more important role in star formation and hence galaxy evolution. To answer this question, we have obtained high resolution 12/13 CO (2-1) data from the Sub Millimeter Array (SMA) of four galaxies at various HI stripping stages to study how the molecular gas properties change as the galaxy experiences the ICM pressure. We investigate the physical properties of molecular gas with 12/13 CO images. By comparing with other wavelength data, i.e. data(optical, HI, $H{\alpha}$, etc), we discuss how and in which timescale galaxies can migrate from the blue cloud to the red sequence due to ram pressure stripping.

Automatic Searching Algorithm for Galactic HI at Forbidden Velocities in the Inner-Galaxy ALFA Low-Latitude HI (I-GALFA) Survey

  • The faint wing-like features at velocities beyond the velocity boundaries of the Galactic rotation (Forbidden-Velocity Wings, FVWs) in the large-scale position-velocity diagrams of the HI surveys are thought to be associated with dynamical Galactic events. The primary candidates of these FVWs are rapidly expanding HI shells of the old Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs), which are too faint to be visible in other frequencies. The unprecedented sensitivity and resolution of the I-GALFA survey enable detection of "all" HI shells of Galactic SNRs at forbidden velocities predicted by Koo and Kang (2004). Therefore, comparing the distribution of the FVWs visible in the I-GALFA survey and that of the model will improve our understanding on the interstellar medium and the evolution of SNRs. We have been developing an automatic searching algorithm for FVWs in the I-GALFA survey to minimize the selection effects of visual inspection used in the previous FVW study. We present the searching mechanism for FVWs and the statistical properties of the automatically searched FVWs. Also, we discuss the similarities and the differences between the distribution of the identified FVWs and that of the SNRs predicted by Koo and Kang (2004).

Statistical Analysis of the HI Structure in Our Galaxy

  • We analyze the I-GALFA HI 21-cm line survey data in order to study the characteristics of interstellar turbulence in the neutral hydrogen medium in the Galaxy. We select several regions of 4.3 deg x 4.3 deg area near or far from the galactic plane both in the inner and outer Galaxy, transform the power of those regions into Fourier planes and derive one- and two-dimensional power spectra of HI emission. Our Fourier-analysis shows that the iso-power contours generally elongate along the latitude direction more in the outermost spiral arm, which indicates that the HI structure is "filamentary" and mainly aligned along the longitude. At high latitudes or in the interarm region, on the other hand, the iso-power contours are close to circles implying that the HI structures are randomly distributed or "clumpy". In the inner Galaxy, we derive two-dimensional spectra both far from and near the arm and explore the nature of the turbulence.

  • This experimental study was made to investigate the effect of the "Hi-Pol" composite resin on the human dental pulp. 38 cavities of healthy permanent teeth were divided into 5 groups which were used as experimental materials. Group 1: Zinc Oxide-Euginol paste was applied to the cavities as controls $\cdots\;\cdots8$ cases Group 2: "Hi-Pol"*filling with Dycal** base $\cdots\;\cdots9$ cases Group 3: "Hi-Pol" filling without Dycal base $\cdots\;\cdots9$ cases Groud 4: Adaptic*** filling with Dycal base $\cdots\;\cdots6$ cases Group 5: Adaptic filling without Dycal base $\cdots\;\cdots6$ cases The treated teeth were extracted after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 4 weeks and processed for histological study. The results obtained from this experimental study were as follows; 1. The controls applied zinc oxide-eugenol showed the minimal pulp response and group 3 and group 5 showed the most severe pulp response. 2. In group 3 and group 5, the severity of pulp response increased in intensity according to the time elapsed. 3. Mobile Web-based Education: Engagement and Satisfaction with HiChart among Pregnant Women

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine engagement and satisfaction with a mobile web-based education program (HiChart) among pregnant women. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted of 97 pregnant women hospitalized for obstetric care. Data were collected from October 1 to November 30, 2016, and were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: Among participants, 16.5% engaged fully with HiChart, while 43.3% engaged partially. The overall satisfaction with HiChart was high. Some main reasons for not engaging with the education were participants' unawareness of the text messages, lack of time, and poor internet connection. The participants suggested that more educational content needed to be covered, such as coping with infant emergencies and information about the neonatal intensive care unit. Conclusion: To increase pregnant women's engagement with mobile web-based education, efforts are needed to strengthen the system of sending text messages as part of mobile web-based education to all patients, to inform pregnant women that an educational web link was sent, and to encourage them to engage with mobile web-based education. Furthermore, it is essential to improve the HiChart service by providing educational content corresponding to users' needs.

High-speed Three-dimensional Surface Profile Measurement with the HiLo Optical Imaging Technique

  • Various techniques to measure the three-dimensional (3D) surface profile of a 3D micro- or nanostructure have been proposed. However, it is difficult to apply such techniques directly to industrial uses because most of them are relatively slow, unreliable, and expensive. The HiLo optical imaging technique, which was recently introduced in the field of fluorescence imaging, is a promising wide-field imaging technique capable of high-speed imaging with a simple optical configuration. It has not been used in measuring a 3D surface profile although confocal microscopy originally developed for fluorescence imaging has been adapted to the field of 3D optical measurement for a long time. In this paper, to the best of our knowledge, the HiLo optical imaging technique for measuring a 3D surface profile is proposed for the first time. Its optical configuration and algorithm for a precisely detecting surface position are designed, optimized, and implemented. Optical performance for several 3D microscale structures is evaluated, and it is confirmed that the capability of measuring a 3D surface profile with HiLo optical imaging technique is comparable to that with confocal microscopy.

HI superprofiles of galaxies from THINGS and LITTLE THINGS

  • We present a novel profile stacking technique based on optimal profile decomposition of a 3D spectral line data cube, and its performance test using the HI data cubes of sample galaxies from HI galaxy surveys, THINGS and LITTLE THINGS. Compared to the previous approach which aligns all the spectra of a cube using their central velocities derived from either moment analysis, single Gaussian or hermite h3 polynomial fitting, the new method makes a profile decomposition of the profiles from which an optimal number of single Gaussian components is derived for each profile. The so-called superprofile which is derived by co-adding all the aligned profiles from which the other Gaussian models are subtracted is found to have weaker wings compared to the ones constructed in a typical manner. This could be due to the reduced number of asymmetric profiles in the new method. A practical test made on the HI data cubes of the THINGS and LITTLE THINGS galaxies shows that our new method can extract more mass of kinematically cold HI components in the galaxies than the previous results. Additionally, we fit a double Gaussian model to the superprofiles whose S/N is boosted, and quantify not only their profile shapes but derive the ratio of the Gaussian model parameters, such as the intensity ratio and velocity dispersion ratio of the narrower and broader Gaussian components. We discuss how the superprofile properties of the sample galaxies are correlated with their other physical properties, including star formation rate, stellar mass, metallicity, and gas mass.
