  • This paper analyze the hazard of electromagnetic radiation to personnel (HERP) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) by C-band tracking radar. Especially, this analysis defines the safety distance for the controlled & uncontrolled personnel from high power radiation of electromagnetic wave within the main beam of 3 degrees by C-band tracking radar. In addition to HERP, the analysis of electromagnetic interference between tracking radar and weather radar was accomplished to decide the safety distance for EMI protection.

  • Human Carcinogenic Potency (HCP) can be estimated based on human daily exposure dose to carcinogen (Dh), body weight (Wh), 10% tumorigenic dose (TD10), and slope factor at TD10 (Q10) from 2-yr bioassay data. This approach is more relevant to humans generally exposed to low doses of carcinogens and can reduce more of extrapolation errors from high dose in animal experiments to low dose in humans than HERP (human exposure dose/rodent potency dose) proposed by Ames et al. (Science, 236, 271-280, 1987). TD50 and HERP have been routinely used to compare rodent carcinogenic potency and human carcinogenic potency, but those approaches have had limitations in extrapolation of high dose to low dose in humans. The advantages of HCP are to estimate human exposure dose (Dh) by human monitoring instead of environmental monitoring, to consider slope factor (Q10) which reflects the tendency of curve at low dose, and to use TD10 which represents much lower dose thant TD50 or HERP. HCP will be a useful parameter for the estimation of human carcinogenic potency in risk assessment and management of carcinogens.

  • In this study, the electrokinetic remediation test for the kaolin contaminated by lead was performed and voltage, zeta potential, pH distribution, current, contamination transport in soil sample were studied and finite differential numerical analysis program(HERP) for a contaminated soil were compared with those of test. From the result of HERP, in the anode it was represented that the rest concentration was decreased with the voltage. Hence, if treatment time was continued for a long in the constant voltage, comparing with sample having no change in the rest concentration, it is considered that the voltage gradient is the control factor of the rest concentration.

  • In this research, we develop an airborne equipment radiating S/C-band signal to a target located at a long distance. RF interface of the equipment comprises band-specific transmitters and an broadband antenna to satisfy EIRP(effective isotropic radiated power) requirements. The equipment is in a shape of a POD like an aircraft fuel tank. The measured weight of the equipment is 119.8 kg, the CG(center of gravity) is 1391.35 mm and the MOI(moment of inertia) are 46.07 ± 0.05(Iyy) kg·㎡, 45.36 ± 0.09(Izz) kg·㎡. All results are found to meet the requirements for aircraft installation. To verify flight safety, EMI(electromagnetic interference) tests (RE102, CE102), environmental tests (high/low temperature operation, altitude), intra-system EMC(electromagnetic compatibility) and HERP(hazards electromagnetic radiation personnel) tests have been conducted and all the test results met the requirements. It is confirmed that the equipment could be mounted on the aircraft by meeting all electrical and mechanical requirements.

  • THERP (Technique for Human Error Rate Prediction) methodology has been widely used for probabilistic safety assessments. The NUREG report involving this methodology is also called the HRA handbook. The THERP assumes that all actions involved in implementing a task are considered as components. In this paper human error rates associated with maintenance are evaluated by the THERP methodology. A gas governor system is used as an example which is also a risky system like nuclear power plants. It is also demonstrated that this approach is flexible in that it can be applied to any operator actions related to test and maintenance.

  • The Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion (HERP) represents the upper-most level of Japan's earthquake disaster prevention governance. Its policy committee establishes the national earthquake investigation research promotion plan. The earthquake investigation committee of HERP collects survey geo-data and evaluates the research results of each earthquake disaster prevention agency. The establishment of an earthquake-related geo-resilience research strategy is both necessary and desirable for Korea. The concept of geo-resilience entails the ability to improve disaster resilience through the application of research results and the convergence of geoscience with science and technology (S&T) including the humanities and social sciences. The achievement of geo-resilience requires a national long-term roadmap and strategy for earthquake prediction research, the development of earthquake disaster prediction and prevention technology, Geo-ICT convergence technology development, implementation of a geocyber physics system (Geo-CPS), the use of geo-mimetics, and geoscientific R&D as it relates to local communities. Through such efforts, the national research institutes of Korea will be able to develop earthquake prediction capacities in relevant fields, reinforce proactive response capabilities, enhance community-level confidence in geodata and its research results, foster next-generation geoscientific manpower, and expand geoscientific infrastructure.
