  • Titanium oxide films were deposited by the nozzle type HCP RT-MOCVD for the application of metal-oxide films. In the case of TTNB, after depositing films, films must be annealed at a proper temperature, but in the case of titanium ethoxide, titanium oxide films could be directly deposited by titanium ethoxide without general annealing. We could confirm that ratio of O to Ti in the films was about 2 : 1 at RF-power of 240 watt, distance between cathode and substrate of 3 cm, deposition time of 20 min, and ratio of Ar to $O_2$ of 1 : 1. Therefore, we could obtain the titanium oxide film deposited by the nozzle type HCP RT-MOCVD without an annealing process and could apply in the metal-oxide deposition process at a low temperature.

  • (1) The metastable crystalline(MX) phases formed by ion mixing are classified into 5 types, i.e. the super-saturated solid solutions and the enlarged HCP-I phases reported earlier, and the newly observed FCC-I phases in hcp-based alloys, The FCC-ll and HCP-ll phases in bcc-based alloys. The growth kinetics of the MX phases is discussed. (2) The interfacial free energy in the multilayered films was found to play an important role in ion beam mixing(IM) induced amorphization. By adding sufficient interfaces, amorphous alloys were obtained even in the systems with rather positive heat of formation. (3) Gibbs free energy diagrams of some representative systems were constructed, by calculating the free energy curves of all the competing phases. Steady-state thermal annealing was conducted and the results confirmed the relevance of the constructed diagrams, which were inturn employed to interpret the MX phase formation as well as the glass forming ability upon IM in the binary metal systems.

  • High temperature deformation behavior and texture evolution during ECAP(equal channel angular pressing) of Zn-0.3Al alloy were investigated in this study. ECAP was conducted at temperatures from $40^{\circ}C$ to $160^{\circ}C$ on the plate type specimen of 5mm thickness and 20mm width. The specimens obtained by ECAP showed typical texture with basal poles tilted away from the ND toward ED. A series of compression tests was carried out at temperatures from RT to $200^{\circ}C$ under the strain rate from 0.03 to 10/s. With the strain rate increased, serration behavior was observed to be prominent.

  • The thin plate of Co-Ni-P was deposited on the polyester film by the electroless plating method. Through present experiments, deposition rates and metal compositions of the plates were determined according to compositions of solution, pH and temperature. Also, magnetic properties of plates were examined according to metal compositions. Considering magnetic properties and deposition rates of electroless plating, the best condition was obtained as pH of 8.5 and 90℃. It was observed that metal compositions were evidently varied by the pH of solutions and the concentration of complex agents. However. they were not affected by other factors. At the optimum condition, the composition of the plate was Co(78%), Ni(16%), and P(6%). Also, it was found that the coercive force was 370 Oe, and squareness was 0.65 at this condition. Magnetic properties (hard or soft) of thin plates were determined by metal compositions. Therefore. the plate became soft magnetic plate as the composition of nickel increased over 30 per cents. The crystal structure of the soft magnetic plate was found to be amorphous in which it was strongly oriented to the (111)phahe of nickel. On the ohter hand, the hard magnetic place was found to be hcp crystalline of α-cobalt which was oriented to the (101)phase of cobalt and the (100)phase of cobalt.

  • Nanocrystalline CoW thin/thick film alloys were electodeposited from citrate baths to investigate the influences of metal ion concentration, current density and solution pH on chemical composition, current efficiency, residual stress, surface morphology, and microstructure of the film. Deposit W (tungsten) content in CoW thin/thick film increased with increasing W ion concentration, current density, and solution pH in the plating bath. It was observed that residual stress in CoW thin/thick film decreased with increasing W ion concentration and solution pH. CoW thin film exhibited mixed phases of hop Co [(100) and (002)] and hcp $Co_3W$ [(002) and (201)] at W ion concentration with 0.02 to 0.08 M. The microstructure of CoW thin film at W ion concentration of 0.1 to 0.2 M was close to amorphous phase. The dominant phases were found to be hop Co (002) and hop $Co_3W$ [(200), (002) and (201)] at the current densities of 5, 10, 25, and $100mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ CoW thin film at the current densities of 50 and $75mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ was close to amorphous phase. At solution pH 8.7, CoW thin film exhibited hcp Co (002) and hop $Co_3W$ [(200), (002) and (201)]. Below solution pH 8.7, CoW thin film exhibited amorphous microstructure. The optimum electrodeposition conditions for CoW thin/thick film were found to be W ion concentration of 0.08 M, current density of $10mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, and solution pH 8.7.

  • In the present study, AZ31B sheets has a bad formability in room temperature, but the formability is improved significantly as increasing the temperature because of rolled magnesium alloy sheet has a hexagonal closed packed structure (HCP) and a plastic anisotropy. In this paper, after tensile test in various temperatures, strain rate, show the tensile mechanical properties, yield and ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent(n), strain rate sensitivity(m). As temperature increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are decreased but strain rate sensitivity(m) is increased. As cross-head-speed increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are increased. And according to the temperature, how change the plastic anisotropy factor R. In addition, we observed how temperatures and cross-head-speed effect on microstructure.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Co, $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn and $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composites were investigated. Wear tests of the materials were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester at various loads of 10N-100N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.38m/s against glass ($83\%\;SiO_2$) beads. Sliding distances were varied with a range of $100m{\sim}600m$. A scanning electron microscopy was used to examine morphologies of worn surfaces, cross-sections, and wear debris. The $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composite had the highest and the $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn composite showed the lowest wear resistance among the tested materials. All specimens exhibited low friction coefficients ranging from 0.12 to 0.4 at the applied load of 100N.

  • The sliding wear behavior of Ni-base hardfacing alloy, Deloro 50, was investigated at the contact stresses of 15ksi and 30ksi under the various wear environments. In air at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed lower wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 15ksi due to the occurrence of severe adhesive wear. This seems to be caused by the lower hardness and work- hardening rate of Deloro 50 than those of Stellite 6. In water at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed as good wear resistance as Stellite 6 at 15ksi. It was considered to be due to that water could effectively prevent metal to metal contact through contacting asperities. However, Deloro 50 showed severe adhesive wear at 30ksi in water at room temperature. It seems to be that the water could not suppress adhesion wear at 30ksi. At $300^{\circ}C$ in air, Deloro 50 exhibited higher wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 30ksi. It was considered that the oxide glaze layers formed on wear surface during sliding, effectively prevented direct metal-to-metal contacts.

  • Using lightweight materials in vehicle manufacturing in order to reduce energy consumption is one of the most effective approach to decrease pollutant emissions. As a lightweight material, magnesium is increasingly employed in automotive parts. However, because of its hexagonal closed-packed(HCP) crystal structure, in which only the basal plane can move, the magnesium alloy sheets show low ductility and formability at room temperature. Thus the press forming of magnesium alloy sheets has been performed at elevated temperature within range of $200^{\circ}C{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. Here we try the possibility of sheet metal forming at room temperature by adopting incremental forming technique with rotating tool, which is so called as rotational-incremental sheet forming(RISF). In this rotational-incremental sheet forming the spindle tool rotates on the surface of the sheet metal and moves incrementally with small pitch to fit the sheet metal on the desired shape. There are various variables defining the formability of sheet metals in the incremental forming such as speed of spindle, pitch size, lubricants, etc. In this study, we clarified the effects of spindle speed and pitch size upon formability of magnesium alloy sheets at room temperature. In case of 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4mm of pitch size with hemispherical rotating tool of 6.0mm radius, the maximum temperature at contact area between rotating tool and sheet metal were $119.2^{\circ}C,\;130.8^{\circ}C,\;and\;177.3^{\circ}C$. Also in case of 300, 500, and 700rpm of spindle speed, the maximum temperature at the contact area were $109.7^{\circ}C,\;130.8^{\circ}C\;and\;189.8^{\circ}C$.

  • Microstructural analysis of a (${\alpha}+{\beta}$) Ti alloy was investigated to consider phase transformation in each step of the thermo-mechanical process using by SEM and TEM EDS. The TAF (Ti-6Al-4Fe) alloy was thermo-mechanically treated with solid solution at $880^{\circ}C$, rolling at $880^{\circ}C$ and annealing at $800^{\circ}C$. In the STQ state, the TAF microstructure was composed of a normal hcp ${\alpha}$ and metastable ${\beta}$ phase. In a rolled state, it was composed of fine B2 precipitates in an ${\alpha}$ phase, which had high Fe segregation and a coherent relationship with the ${\beta}$ matrix. Finally, in the annealing state, the fine B2 precipitates had disappeared in the ${\alpha}$ phase and had gone to the boundary of the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase. On the other hand, in a lower rolling temperature of $704^{\circ}C$, the B2 precipitates were more coarse in both the ${\alpha}$ and the boundary of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase. We concluded that microstructural change affects the mechanical properties of formability including rolling defects and cracks.
