Hand grip strength has been utilized as an indicator to evaluate the motor ability of hands, responsible for performing multiple body functions. It is however difficult to evaluate other factors (other than hand muscular strength) utilizing the hand grip strength only. The purpose of this study was analyzed the motor ability of hands using EMG and the hand grip strength, simultaneously in order to evaluate concentration, muscular strength reaction time, instantaneous muscular strength change, and agility in response to visual reaction. In results, the average time (and their standard deviations) of muscular strength reaction EMG signal and hand grip strength was found to be $209.6{\pm}56.2$ ms and $354.3{\pm}54.6$ ms, respectively. In addition, the onset time which represents acceleration time to reach 90% of maximum hand grip strength, was $382.9{\pm}129.9$ ms. Results in visual reaction (on) indicate the differences in muscular strength agility and concentration of participants in regards to visual reaction.

We investigated the nutritional state of B vitamins and the neuropsychological functions in 25 subjects, aged $63.1{\pm}6.3$ years, residing in rural areas of Korea. Nutritional states of thiamin, riboflavin, and pyridoxine were assessed enzymatically in the erythrocytes, and folate concentrations were measured microbiologically in the plasma and erythrocytes. A battery of composite neuropsychological test was administered to the subjects. Plasma folate was correlated with the total intelligence score (p=0.049). Folate levels in the erythrocytes were correlated with the performance intelligence scores such as block design (p=0.017) and picture arrangement (p=0.016). The red cell folate was correlated with memory scores such as general memory (p=0.009) and delayed recall (p=0.000). Although it did not reach statistical significance, verbal memory (p=0.053) was highly correlated with the red cell folate. The red cell folate was also correlated positively with the percent of conceptual level response number score (p=0.029), and negatively with the grooved pegboard test score for the non-dominant hand (p=0.010). Fine motor coordination was also influenced by folate nutrition, as finger tapping scores in both hands were significantly correlated with red cell folate (dominant hand; p=0.026, non-dominant hand; p=0.004). Other B vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, and vitamin $B_6$ were not as strongly correlated with neuropsychological function test scores as folate was. These results suggest that folate nutrition influences neuropsychological function test scores significantly in humans. Further studies are needed to explore the relationship between folate or other vitamin B nutrition and neuropsychological functions and the implications thereof.

Objectives : To evaluate the effects of aroma hand massage on sleep disturbance and depression in hospitalized elderly patients. Methods : The data was collected using questionnaires from the subjects who were admitted to the G Medical Hospital in Daegu from 7 July to 12 July, 2008. A total of 23 subjects were selected. The subjects were applied with the aroma hand massage to both hands using a solution diluting four drops of lavender oil in jojoba oil 10cc. Aroma hand massage was given for 10 minutes, one time a day, during 5 days. Results : There was statistically significant improvement on the Korean sleep scale(t=-7.614, p=0.000) and on the Geriatric Depression Scale Short Korea Version(GDSSF-K)(t=3.444, p=0.002). Conclusions : aroma hand massage is an effective therapeutic intervention for decreased sleep disturbance and depression. Therefore, aroma therapy and hand massage by therapeutic intervention is recommended for improving psychological and physiological functions in hospitalized elderly patients.

The purpose of this study is to provide the school planning factors as emergency shelter after disaster. The school functions as the evacuation space areas could be classified into the evacuation center, education maintenance, and dwelling. Among these functions, the scopes of our study are limited to the functions of evacuation center and education maintenance. To carry out this purpose, we were comparative analyzed the shelter space problems of Korea and Japan's survey in the existing literatures. In results of our study, the evacuation center's functions are difficult to depending on the disaster types, such as the earthquake, tornado, and hurricane. On the other hand, the education maintenance functions are difficult to deepening on the victims occupied times in the school as emergency shelters. Based on these findings, the Korea school planning as the emergency shelters are desired to reflect that the evacuation's functions based on the disaster type of the damage from storms, and the education maintenance's functions based on the victim's occupied times in school for their safety.

In this paper, a practical methodology of hand-manipulator motion coordination for indoor service robot is introduced. This paper describes the procedures of opening door performed by service robot as a noticeable example of motion coordination. This paper presents well-structured framework for hand-manipulator motion coordination, which includes intelligent sensor data interpretation, object shape estimation, optimal grasping, on-line motion planning and behavior-based task execution. This proposed approach is focused on how to integrate the respective functions in harmony and enable the robot to complete its operation under the limitation of usable resources. As a practical example of implementation, the successful experimental results in opening door whose geometric parameters are unknown beforehand are provided.

Location awareness is one of the key functions to build an U-city. Recently, many of works for the location-aware systems are emerging to be applied to on-going large-scale apartment complex. For example, when dwellers or cars with active tags are move in the apartment complex, the active tags broadcast their own identifiers periodically and receivers such that routers use this information to calculate the location of the active tags. Since the active tags can actually move between routers and coordinators, it requires a hand-off mechanism. In this paper, we investigate the hand-off problem occurred in location awareness system based on ZigBee active tags. We propose and analyze a new approach for handling the hand-off problem. Through a mathematical analysis, we show that our approach diminishes the quantity of packet transfer than ZigBee's approach.

In this paper presents a control algorism for myoelectric hand prosthesis(MHP) with 2 degree of freedom(DOF), which consists of a mechanical hand, a surface myoelectric sensor(SMES) for measuring myoelectric signal, a control system and a charging battery. The actuation for the 2-DOF hand functions such as grasping and wrist rotation was performed by two DC-motors, and controlled by myoelectric signal measured from the residual forearm muscle. The two controllers were made of a RISC-type microprocessor, and its software was executed on a real-time kernel. The experimental results were showed that the proposed a control algorism is feasible for the MHP.

In this article the absolute convergence of lacunary Fourier Coefficients Series is studied for Hilbert space valued functions. The considered functions arc assumed to be of either the modulus of continuity or the modulus of smoothness of order l which are considered only at a fixed point in [$-{\pi},{\pi}$]. On the other hand for values in weakly sequentially complete Banach space, the lacunary Fourier coefficients series is strongly unconditionally convergent. The results obtained here are a kind of a generalization of the results due to Kandil [4].

If a multiplicative function f is commutable with a quadratic form x² + xy + y², i.e., f(x² + xy + y²) = f(x)² + f(x) f(y) + f(y)², then f is the identity function. In other hand, if f is commutable with a quadratic form x² - xy + y², then f is one of three kinds of functions: the identity function, the constant function, and an indicator function for ℕ ＼ pℕ with a prime p.

The hand performs functions such as grabbing and other movements. In order to accomplish these movements in various kinds of operational environments, appropriate gloves must be worn to protect your hands. Choosing the appropriate type of glove is very important when wearing gloves in these types of operational environments. The reasons one wears gloves varies depending on age and gender. Unmarried women in their early twenties, for example, occasionally wear gloves for decoration rather than for functional reasons. However, previous studies examined a range of topics, and as such investigations dealing with specific body shape and demands of consumer are needed. Therefore in this study, the hands of unmarried women ranging in age from 20 to 24 were measured and hand shape types were analyzed in order to present basal data which can be used to help design improved glove patterns and produce appropriate, functional gloves. A total of 261 Korean women were measured. Fifty-seven right hand dimensions were measured and five dimensions from both hands were measured. Six factors were identified through factor analysis and those factors constituted $73.259\%$ of total variance. Two clusters of hand shapes were categorized using 6 factor scores by cluster analysis. Type 1 hand shape is defined as long hands with small width, girth, and thickness, long and thin fingers, and high vertical palm height. Type 2 hand shape is defined as short hands with large width, girth and thickness, short fingers, thick knuckles, and short vertical palm height. The characteristics of type 1 and 2 hand shapes are similar to women's hand type classification results from previous reports, but there was a significant difference in subject distribution by type. Therefore, standard data on hand shapes should be produced by developing measuring instruments and selling more accurate standard measuring points. By doing this it could help in the development of improved glove patterns, and also aid in planning production based on hand type.
