Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Stephaniae tetrandrae Radix Herbal-acupuncture(SR-HA) at KI10(Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in rats. Methods : Male SD rats (n=32) were allocated to four groups; normal, LPS, saline, and SR-HA. The rats in the LPS, saline, and SR-HA groups were injected intra-peritoneally with LPS (2 mg/kg) to induce nephritis. The rats in the saline and SR-HA groups were treated with saline injection and SR-HA respectively at KI10 three times a week. To evaluate the effects of SR-HA at KI10 on nephritis in rats, the authors evaluated the numbers of WBC and neutrophils in blood, and the levels of creatinine, TNF-${\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine and renal MPO. Results : SR-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the increase of WBC and neutrophils in blood, TNF-${\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatine, total protein in urine and MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusions : SR-HA at KI10 may have therapeutic effects on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rats.

Objective & Methods : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Cistanches Herba herbal-acupuncture (CH-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy in mice. The results were as follows; Results : CH-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibia, the elevation of serum osteocalcin level, the reduction of tibial Ca and P level, the increase of tibial osteoclast like cells, the reduction of tibial TBV (trabecular bone volume), the overgrowth of tibial GPL (growth plate length) in ovariectomized mice. NP at KI10 significantly inhibited the reduction of BMD (bone mineral density) in ovariectomized mice, but CH-HA did not. Conclusion : Taken together, CH-HA at KI10 has a protective or therapeutic effect for osteoporosis in ovariectomized mice. Therefore, it is suggested that CH-HA may be an useful therapeutics in clinical filed after further researches.

Objective : The present study was carried out to determine if Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture exerts beneficial effect against the cisplatin-induced acute renal failure in rabbits. Method : Semen Plantaginis was selected in the basis of invigorating kidney-QI which can eliminate pathogens. The oxidative stability determined by the Rancimat technique showed higher antioxidative index when compared with control. Rabbits were treated with Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture on Shin-shu point for 3 days, followed by cisplatin injection(5mg/kg body weight). Results : Cisplatin injection caused an increase in serum creatinine level, which was accompanied by a reduction in GFR. The fractional excretion of $Na^{+}$, $K^{+}$, glucose and phosphate increased in cisplatin-induced animals, which was partially prevented by Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture treatment. Cisplatin injection increased lipid peroxidation, which was not prevented by Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture. Conclusions : These results indicate that lipid peroxidation plays a critical role in cisplatin-induced acute renal failure. Semen Plantaginis Herbal-Acupuncture exerts the protective effect against acute renal failure induced by cisplatin, and its effect may be attribued to an antioxidant action.

Objective : This study is aimed to evaluate the effects of Evodiae Fructus herbal-acupuncture (EF-HA) at KI10 on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy in mice. Method : Mice underwent bilateral ovariectomy. After recovering, the ovariectomized (OVX) mice were treated by needle prick, saline injection, herbal acupuncture with Evodiae Fructus (EF-HA) at KI10 for 8 weeks. Result : 1. EF-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibia in ovariectomized mice. 2. NP at KI10 significantly restored the tibial BMD (bone mineral density) in ovariectomized mice. 3. EF-HA at KI10 significantly restored the phosphorus and creatinine levels in ovariectomized mice serum. 4. EF-HA at KI10 significantly restored the tibial Ca and P levels in ovariectomized mice. 5. EF-HA at KI10 significantly reduced the tibial osteoclast-like cells in ovariectomized mice. 6. EF-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibial GPL (growth plate length) in ovariectomized mice. Conclusion : EF-HA at KI10 has protective and therapeutic effect for osteoporosis in ovariectomized mice. Thus, it is suggested that EF-HA can be an useful therapeutics in clinical field after further researches.

Methods : We carried out several experimental items to analyze the changes in body weight, uterine weight, uterus index, tibial length, the ash bone weight, tibial BMD, serum ALP, serum creatinine, serum osteocalcin, serum Ca, and the levels of Ca, P, Ca/P ratio in tibia, and we performed histological and histomorphological analysis as well. Results : Tibial BMD was significantly decreased by OVX, while significantly increased by AC-HA at KI10. Serum creatinine level was significantly increased by OVX, while significantly decreased by AC-HA at KI10. Serum osteocalcin level was significantly increased by OVX, while significantly decreased by AC-HA at KI10. Tibial TBV(trabecular bone volume) was significantly decreased by OVX, while significantly increased by AC-HA at KI10. AC-HA at KI10 significantly suppressed the OVX-induced increase of GPL(growth plate length) of tibia in mice. Conclusion : These results suggest that AC-HA at KI10 has a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis in OVX mice.

Objectives & Methods : The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of herbal-acupuncture with Epimedii Herba extract (EH-HA) at $KI_{10}$ (Eumgok) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized (OVX) ddY mice. We carried out several experimental items to analyze the changes in body weight, uterine weight, uterus index, tibial length, the ash bone weight, tibial BMD, serum ALP, serum osteocalcin, serum Ca, and the levels of Ca, P, Ca/P ratio in tibia, and we performed histological and histomorphological analysis as well. Results: 1. The tibial length and ash bone weight were insignificant, while BMD was significantly increased by in EH-HA in comparison with control group. 2. Serum ALP and serum osteocalcin were decreased and serum Ca was increased by in EH-HA in comparison with control group, But all were insignificant. 3. Ca and P level in tibia were significantly increased in EH-HA in comparison with control group, while Ca/P ratio was insignificant. 4. Osteoclast like cell in tibia was significantly decreased in EH-HA in comparison with control group. 5. In the histological study in tibia, TBV was significantly increased, TBT was insignificantly increased and GPL was significantly decreased in EH-HA in comparison with control group. Conclusions: These results suggest that EH-HA at $KI_{10}$ has a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis in OVX mice.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Asthma-depression and Immunoregulation with PR-HAS(Herbal-acupuncture with Platycodi Radix infusion solution) injection at Joksamni(St36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks(once a week). The experimental group(OVA-PR-HA) wase treated with concentrations(1%) of PR-HAS at Joksamni(St36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). The second experimental group(OVA-Needle prick) was treated with Needle-Prick at Joksamni(St36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). Results : 1. The weight and total cells in the mice lung treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 2. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased remarkably compared with those of control group. 3. The sticking of collagen on histological analysis of lung sections, the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 4. The concentrations of IL-4, IL-5, IgE in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in serum of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 5. The number of $Gr-1^+/CD11b^+\;and\;CD11b^+$ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 6. The numbers of $CCR3^+\;cells,\;CD4^+\;cells\;and\;CD8^+\;cells$ in the lungs, and $CD3e^+/CD69^+$ in the lungs of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 7. The mRNA expression of ${\beta}-actin,\;TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-4, IL-5,IL-13 in the mice group treated with PR-HA with RT-PCR decreased significantly compared with those of control group. Conclusion : The concentrations of IL-4, IL-5, IgE in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in serum of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. The number of $Gr-1^+/CD11b^+\;and\;CD11b^+$ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. Background : Recently, so many people are suffered from the allergic or auto-immune disease, and the representative disease is just Allergic Asthma. It is because human immune function has been decreased. Many treatments were done to treat this disease, and many methods were studied to increase immune function and to suppress the asthma. But, the effect of asthma-suppression and improvement of immune response of EH-HA(Ephedrae Herba Herbal Acupuncture) has not been studied in detail. To study the effects of EH-HA, we injected EH-HA at Joksamni(ST36) of C57BL/6 mice. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of asthma-suppression and improvement of immune response of EH-HA(Ephedrae Herba Herbal Acupuncture). EH-HA was done at Joksamni(ST36) of the mice with ovalbumin-induced asthma. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks. Two experimental groups were treated with different concentrations(1%, 0.1%) of EH-HA at Joksamni(ST36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). Results : 1. The lung weight of the group treated with EH-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 2. The total cells in lung, total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the group treated with EH-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 3. Eosinophils in BALF of the group treated with EH-HA in photomicrographs decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 4. The concentrations of IL-13, IgE, IL-4 in serum and IL-4 in BALF of the group treated with EH-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 5. The numbers of $Gr-1^+/CD11b^+\;cells,\;CD3e^-/CCR3^+\;cells,\;CD4^+\;cells,\;CD8^+\;cells,\;CD3e^+/CD69^+\;cells\;and\;IgE^+/B220^+\;cells$ in lung of the group treated with EH-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 6. In RT-PCR, the mRNA expression of IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in the group treated with EH-HA decreased compared with those of control group. Conclusion : These results suggested that EH-HA at Joksamni(ST36) in C57BL/6mice may be effective to OVA-induced asthma of C57BL/6 mice.

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Polygoni avicularis Herba Herbal-acupuncture( PaH-HA) at KI10(Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in rats. Methods : Rats were allocated into normal, control, and 3 experimental groups. The rats in the control group were intra-peritoneally injected with LPS for nephritis induction. The rats in the groups of experiment 1, experiment 2, and experiment 3 were treated with single needle prick, saline injection, and PaH-HA, respectively at KI10 three times for a week and then injected with LPS. To evaluate the effects of PaH-HA at HI10, WBC count in blood, serum CINC-1, renal TNF-${\alpha}$ and renal MPO were measured. Results : Needle prick at KI10 suppressed the increase of WBC in blood and CINC-1 in serum of LPS-stimulated rats. Saline injection at KI10 suppressed the increase of WBC in blood. PaH-HA at KI10 suppressed the increase of WBC in blood, CINC-1 in serum, and MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusions : PaH-HA at KI10 has an anti-inflammatory effect on LPS-induced nephritis in rats and there may be a synergism between KI10(Umgok) stimulation and PaH-HA Solution.

Results : PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced WBC in blood, BUN, TNF-$\alpha$ in serum of LPS-stimulated rats. PS-HA at KI10 significantly increased urinary volume in LPS-stimulated rats. And PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusion : Taken together, PS-HA at KI10 has a therapeutic effect on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rat. Therefore, it is suggested that PS-HA at KI10 may be an useful therapeutics for nephritis in clinical field.
