반응표면 분석에 의한 Lactococcus sp. HY 449의 성장 및 Bacteriocin 생산의 최적화 (Optimizing Conditions for the Growth and Bacteriocin Production of Lactococcus sp.HY 449 Usin Response Surface Methodology)

  • Bacteriocin-producing lactic acid bacteria, Lactococcus sp. HY 449, was isolated from dairy products. Using response surface methodology, the various concentrations of medium compo- nents (tryptone, glucose, yeast extract, tween 80, and initial pH) were tested to find the optimum conditions for maximum bacteriocin production and growth of Lactococcus sp. HY 449. Central composite design was used to control the concentrations of medium components in the experiment. Bacteriocin production and cell growth of Lactococcus sp. HY 449 were most affected by glucose and yeast extract. Estimated optimum growth conditions of Lactococcus sp. HY 449 were as follows; tryptone 1.08%, glucose 1.129%, yeast extract 0.674%, tween 80 0.11%, and initial pH 7.19. Also estimated optimum conditions for bacteriocin production were tryptone 0.937%, glucose 1.108%, yeast extract 0.163%, tween 80 0.09%, and initial pH 6.98.

Initial growth mode of ultra-thin Al films on a W(110) surface at high temperatures

  • We investigated the adsorption structures and the initial growth mode of ultra-thin Al films on a W(110) surface at a high temperature. When Al atoms were adsorbed on the W(110) at the substrate temperature of 1100 K and with coverage of 0.5ML, Al atoms formed a p($2{\times}1$) double-domain structure. When the coverage was 1.0 ML, the double domain of a hexagonal structure (fcc(111) face) rotated ${\pm}5^{\circ}$ from the [100] direction of the W(110) surface and another distorted hexagonal structure were found. Low-energy electron diffraction results along with ion scattering spectroscopy results showed that the Al atoms followed the Volmer-Weber growth mode at a high temperature.

  • Fatigue crack growth from surface defects is one of the most important subjects for the evaluation and the assurance of safety in pressure vessels, piping systems, LPG/LNG fuel tank and other various structures. This paper attempts to analysis some practical or general problems such as the estimation of crack growth life to penetrate the plate thickness, based on fatigue crack growth a single surface flaw and the interaction of multiple flaws. An experiment on the coalescence of multiple undercuts was carried out under cyclic tension condition as a attempt to the analysis of multiple crack problems. It is noted that the fracture strength is characterized by the analogy to that in a single crack growth.

New Self-Directed Growth Mechanism of Molecular Lines across the Dimer Rows on H-terminated Si(001) Surface

  • We present theoretical investigations of the self-assembled growth of one-dimensional (1D) molecular lines directed across the dimer rows on the H-terminated Si(001) surface [1]. Based on density-functional theory calculations, a new growth mechanism of the 1D acetylacetone line is proposed [2], which involves the radical chain reaction initiated at two dangling-bond sites on one side of two adjacent Si dimers. It is also enabled that, if an H-free Si dimer were employed as the initial reaction site, a 1D acetylacetone line can grow along the dimer row. Our findings represent the first insight into the growth of 1D molecular lines not only across but also along the dimer rows on the H-terminated Si(001) surface.

  • The flame structure and soot formation in the counterflow Ethylene-Air nonpremixed flame are numerically analyzed. The present soot reaction mechanism involves nucleation, surface growth, particle coagulation, and oxidation steps. The gas phase chemistry and the soot nucleation, surface growth reactions are coupled by assuming that the nucleation and soot mass growth has the certain relationship with the concentration of benzene and acetylene. In terms of the centerline velocity and the soot volume fraction, the predicted results are compared with the experimental data. The detailed discussion has been made for the sensitivity of model constants and the deficiencies of the present model. Numerical results indicated that the acetylene addition to the soot surface plays the dominant role in the soot mass growth for the counterflow nonpremixed flame.

표면균열의 피로성장거동연구 -인장 반복 하중하에서의 균열형상비 예측- (A Study on the Fatigue Growth Behavior of Surface Cracks -Prediction of Crack Aspect Ratio under the Constant Amplitude Tension Fatigue Loads-)

  • The fatigue growth behavior of surface cracks cannot be adequately predicted solely by stress intensity factor analysis. This is caused by different plastic deformation due to variations in the stress field triaxiality along the crack tip. Therefore, a new model which accounts for the crack closure phenomenon is proposed in this paper to predict the fatigue crack growth patterns for surface cracks. Fatigue tests were performed to develop the new model for the prediction and to assess the accuracy of the analysis. The predicted crack growth behavior for PMMA and Aluminum alloy 7075-T6 materials agreed well with the experimental data.

Crack growth life model for fatigue susceptible structural components in aging aircraft

  • A total life model was developed to assess the service life of aging aircraft. The primary focus of this paper is the development of crack growth life projection using the response surface method. Crack growth life projection is a necessary component of the total life model. The study showed that the number of load cycles N needed for a crack to propagate to a specified size can be linearly related to the geometric parameter, material, and stress level of the component considered when all the variables are transformed to logarithmic values. By the Central Limit theorem, the ln N was approximated by Gaussian distribution. This Gaussian model compared well with the histograms of the number of load cycles generated from simulated crack growth curves. The outcome of this study will aid engineers in designing their crack growth experiments to develop the stochastic crack growth models for service life assessments.

MOCVD를 이용한 GaAs 박막의 에피성장 (Epitaxial Growth of GaAs Thin Films Using MOCVD)

  • GaAs thin films were grown epitaxially by MOCVD method on (001) GaAs substrate. And as a surfactant, Bi(bismuth) thin films were deposited on GaAs buffer layer by using TMBi(trimethylbismuth) source. In-situ reflectance difference spectroscopy(RDS) was used to monitor the surface reconstruction of GaAs and Bi thin films. As the results, under the exposure of TBAs(tertiarybuthylarsine) and hydrogen atmosphere, the surface reconstruction of GaAs was changed from As-rich c($4{\times}4$) to As-rich ($2{\times}4$), which was due to the adsoption and desorption of As dimers. The first bismuth surface related RDS signal was reported. At the deposition temperature of $450^{\circ}C$, Bi-terminated GaAs surface showed the RDS spectrum similar to that of Sb-terminated GaAs surface, possibly a ($2{\times}4$) surface. And Bi surface layers were rapidly evaporated with increasing the deposition temperature($550^{\circ}C$), finally becoming As-terminated ($2{\times}4$) surface.

  • A linear elastic fracture mechanics analysis of double subsurface cracks propagation in a half-space subjected to moving thermomechanical surface traction was performed using the finite element method. The effect of frictional heat at the sliding surface on the crack growth behavior is analyzed in terms of the thermal load and peclet number. The crack propagation direction is predicted in light of the magnitudes of the maximum shear and tensile stress intensity factor ranges. When moving thermomechanical surface traction exists, subsurface horizontal cracks are propagation in-plane crack growth rate at the beginning but they are propagation out-of-plane crack growth rate by the frictional heat which is occurrence by the repeated sliding contact.
