[ $\bigcirc$ ] In the growth simulation using genetic coefficients calculated with fooled data under various condition, WAGT was not higher and LAI, WLVG, WSO were higher, but WST was similar before grain-filling stage after the became lower because of higher translocation of carbohydrates than in the growth simulation using genetic coefficients calculated with data under high nitrogen applicated condition. $\bigcirc$ Genetic coefficients should be calculated with data showing potential in ORYZA2000, but under 180 kg and 240 kg N condition in 2003, plants were infected by panicle blast and also yield was not higher than under 120 kg N condition showing not potential condition and therefore not appropriate for genetic coefficients estimation compared with pooled data from various condition.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of salinity on the growth and development of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer) and to evaluate the inorganic ion content in Korean ginseng with different general complete fertilizer (GCF) and NaCI concentrations at two growth stages. The stem height of Korean ginseng treated with different GCF and NaCI concentrations decreased at the higher EC (2.0 dS m$^{-1}$ ), but there were no significant difference in the stem diameter, the leaf length, and the leaf width among different treatments. The root growth increased with the supply of GCF. Especially, the root growth was facilitated two times at 3.0 dS $\textrm{m}^{-1}$ as compared to control. But the root growth more sharply decreased with NaCI treatment than GCF. The $\textrm{K}^{+}$ and $\textrm{Mg}^{2+}$ content in leaves and roots increased with GCF at the early growth stage. At the late growth stage, the $\textrm{K}^{+}$ content in leaves decreased but the $\textrm{Ca}^{2+}$ and $\textrm{Mg}^{2+}$ content increased. The $\textrm{Ca}^{2+}$ and $\textrm{Mg}^{2+}$ content in roots increased but the $\textrm{K}^{+}$ content decreased. The $\textrm{Na}^{+}$ content in Korean ginseng increased sharply with NaCl treatment. The $\textrm{NO}_3^{-}$ content in leaves and $\textrm{NH}_4^{+}$ content in leaves and roots increased as GCF concentration increased. The $\textrm{NO}_3^{-}$ content in leaves, stems, and roots at the late growth stage decreased as NaCl concentration increased. The $\textrm{NH}_4^{+}$ content in leaves and roots decreased significantly at the early growth stage, but it decreased significantly in leaves and stems at the late growth stage. The root activity of Korean ginseng increased with GCF, but decreased as the EC increased with NaCl. The water potential of leaves with GCF showed no significant difference compare to control, but the water potential of leaves treated with NaCl decreased as EC increased.

Carbon based nanoelctronic materials such as buckyball, CNT, and graphene have been active field of research because of their superior electronic prperties and potential application to flexible electronics. Still the difficulty of fabrication and spatial control prevent them from practical applications. Here I introduce a novel growth method of CNTs, known as surface assisted growth, that can answer the challenge. Various device examples from as-grown CNTs will prove the importance of this method for future nanoelectronics.
GaAs nanowires were grown on GaAs (111)B substrates in a gas source molecular beam epitaxy system, using self-assembled Au particles with diameters between 25 and 200 nm as the catalytic agents. The growth rate and structure of the nanowires were investigated for substrate temperatures between 500 and $600^{\circ}C$ to study the mass transport mechanisms that drive the growth of these crystals. The possibilities for fabrication of novel magnetic nanostructures by suitable choice of growth conditions are discussed.
Differences in fertilizer responses of Chinese cabbage to soil water status were investigated in a field experiment. The growth pattern, water use, nutrient uptake, apparent efficiency of fertilizer and yield were analyzed under the 4-different fertilizer levels (N-P-K rate, kg/10a: 0-0-0 Fo, 11.5-10-12.5 Fo.5, 23-30-25 F1.0, 34.5-30-37.5 F1.5 and under the 4-different soil water status levels (non irrigated plot Mo, -0.1 to -1.0 bars M1, -0.1 to -0.5 bars M2, -0.1 to -0.2 bars M3). The soil was Bonryang sandy loam in the experimental farm of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Suweon. The growth and yield responses to the fertilizer levels showed a large difference between F0 and F0.5 but little differences were recognized between F0.5, F1.0 and F1.5 when the soil water potentials at 20-cm soil depth were lower than -2.0 bar. Under the well irrigated soil conditions, M2, and M3, the growth and yield responses to the fertilizer levels were significantly increased and the nutrient requirements were increased as well. The total uptake of nutrients decreased as the fertilizer amounts increased when the soil water potentials were low, while the total uptake of nutrients increased when the soil water potentials were high. Therefore, in considering nutrient availability of the applied fertilizers, the soil water status should be taken into account.
The object of this study was to determine the difference of the time course changes of transpiration, diffusion resistance and photosynthetic rate of rice at several different growth stages subjected to soil moisture stress (SMS) and recovery by irrigation. A japonica rice cultivar 'Dongjinbyeo', was grown under flooded condition in a plastic container filled with silty loam soil. At 5 main growth stages, the container was treated by SMS until initial wilting point (IWP) and then reirrigated. The duration of SMS until IWP were the longest, 13 days for tillering stage, and the shortest, 7 days for panicle initiation and meiosis stage. The transpiration rate rapidly decreased during SMS and the transpiration rate at IWP of the stressed plant showed 10∼20% compared with control, and the transpiration rate of stressed plant at most growth stages also recovered rapidly after irrigation and then reached 100% of control within a week. The shoot photosynthetic rate in all growth stages rapidly decreased by SMS, and the rates at IWP of stressed plants were de-creased nearly to 0%, beside the treatment at tillering stage. The recovery degree of photosynthetic rate by irrigation ranged from 20 to 90%, showed higher at early growth stages of SMS treatment than that of later stages. At all growth stages the leaf diffusion resistance of stressed plants was over 3 times that of the control resulting from a rapid increase at 3 to 5 days after draining for SMS, and showed quick recovery by irrigation within 3 days after drainage. The above physiological parameters changed in close relation with the decrease of the soil matric potential after SMS. These results indicate that at all main growth stages of rice plants the transpiration and photosynthesis reduction by stomatal closure reponded sensitively to the first stage of SMS closely related with decrease of soil water potential, while those recovery pattern and recovered degree by irrigation are little different by growth stage of rice.

To screen the effective materials for hair loss treatment, several natural extracts were tested using in vivo and in vitro test models. Firstly, all test materials were applicated onto the back skin of C57BL/6 mouse and then hair growth promoting effect was measured using hair growth index. As a result, Prunus mume, black bean, Brassica campestris subsp. black sesame and Rubi Fructus showed potent hair growth promoting effect, ranking as 1.5-2.0 of hair growth index. However, there were no plant extracts, which have remarkable potential of growth promotion of human hair dermal papilla cells cultured in vitro. In the experiments of 5${\alpha}$-reductase type Ⅱ inhibition assay, Prunus mume, Eriobotryae Folium showed effective potential to inhibit the activity of 5${\alpha}$-reductase type Ⅱ. To investigate the possible involvement of the effect of several plant extracts on the gene expression of growth factors in human hair dermal papilla cells, RT - PCR analyses were performed. However, there were no plant extracts, which have profound effect on the gene expression of several growth factors such as IGF-I, KGF, HGF and VEGF in the dermal papilla cells. Another tests for inhibition of microbial such as P. acne were also carried out to find whether these plant extracts have anti -microbial activities. Rubi Fructus showed anti -microbial effects on Propionibacterium acnes, which is believed as a pathogen of acne. Together, these results showed several plant extracts can be used for hair growth promotion.

Knowledge of the degree of yield reduction due to water stress at different crop growth stages in rice production is important for rational scheduling of irrigation during periods of insufficient water supply. Previous studies to determine the degree of yield reduction duo to water stress suffered from interruptions by rain during experiment. Also the findings did rot relate the degree of water stress to the soil water potential and water deficit status of rice plants. In this study, two years experiments were conducted using the high yielding rice varieties, an Indica x Japonica (Nampoong) and a Japonica variety(Choochung). These were grown in 1/200$^{\circ}$ plastic pots placed under a rainfall autosensing, sliding clear plastic roof facility to control rainfall interruptions. The results obtained were as follows. 1.The two varieties differed in the growth stage most sensitive to water stress as well as the degree of yield reductions. When rice plants were stressed to the leaf rolling score 4 and soil water potential of about - 20 bar at major crop growth stages which included heading, booting, non-effective tillering, panicle initiation and early tillering stages, the yield reductions in the Indica x Japonica variety were 58%, 34%, 27%, 22%, and 21%, respectively, whereas in the Japonica vairety they were 23%, 36%, 1%, 13% and 22%, respectively. This result show that the recommended drainage during non-effective tillering is valid only for the Japonica variety. Sufficient irrigation at booting, heading and early tillering stages are necessary for both varieties. 2.The two varieties showed visible wilting symptoms when the soil water potential dropped to about - 3.0 bar. The Japonica variety showed more leaf rolling than the Indica X Japonica. However, it had a higher retention of leaf water content and greater stomatal diffusive resistance. When the soil water potential dropped, the Japonica variety showed leaf rolling score (LRS) 1 at 0 soil-5. 0 bar and LRS 2 at 0 soil -6.0 bar while the Indica X Japonica showed LRS 1 at 0 soil - 5.5 bar and LRS 2at 0 Soil - 9.0 bar. The stomatal diffusive resistance was maximum at the second top leaf blade in both varieties at intermediate water stress of 0 soil - 4.5 bar. 3.The number of days that was required for the soil water potential to drop to-3. 0 bar and to - 20.0 bar after drainage of irrigation water from the 20cm deep silty clay loam soil in the pots were 6 and 13 days, respectively for booting stage, and 7 and 11 days, respectively for heading stage, 9 and 12 days, respectively for panicle initiation stage, and 12 and 19 days, respectively for early tillering stage. 4.Water stress during the early tillering stage recorded the longest delay in beading time, the largest reduction in panicle numbers and a substantial yield decrease of 20%. This calls for better water management to ensure the availability of water at this stage, particularly during drought periods. In addition, a reexamination of the conventional inter-drainage practice during the non-effective tillering stage is necessary for the high yielding Indica X Japonica varieties.
