  • New diamide chiral stationary phases of four systematically substituted optically active N-(N-benzoyl-L-amino acid)-anilide synthesized from L-valine, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-phenylalanine were described. The behaviors of these diamides as optically active stationary phases for the separation of N-trifluoroacetyl-D,L-amino acids were examined with respect to separation factors(${\alpha}$) and thermodynamic properties of interaction. The separation of twelve N-trifluoroacetyl-D,L-amino acid isopropyl esters were improved by the order of N-(N-benzoyl-L-leucyl)-anilide>N-(N-benzoyl-L-isoleucyl)-anilide>N-(N-benzoyl-L-valyl)-anilide>N-(N-benzoyl-L-phenylalanyl)-anilide. Eight amino acid derivatives with non-polar R-group and threonine, serine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid enantiomers were separated on N-(N-benzoyl-L-leucyl)-anilide as chiral stationary phase with good separation factor between 1.07-1.25. The separation factors decreased with respect to increasing column temperature. Possible working temperature of diamide phase was between $130-190^{\circ}C$ for N-(N-benzoyl-L-phenylalanyl)-anilide and $130-180^{\circ}C$ for other three diamide phases. The differential Gibb's free energy (${\Delta}{\Delta}G$) of enantiomers was in the range of -100--180 cal/mol for ten amino acids and -40--60 cal/mol for alanine and aspartic acid.

Neuroprotective Effect of Chronic Intracranial Toxoplasma gondii Infection in a Mouse Cerebral Ischemia Model

  • Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite that can invade various organs in the host body, including the central nervous system. Chronic intracranial T. gondii is known to be associated with neuroprotection against neurodegenerative diseases through interaction with host brain cells in various ways. The present study investigated the neuroprotective effects of chronic T. gondii infection in mice with cerebral ischemia experimentally produced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) surgery. The neurobehavioral effects of cerebral ischemia were assessed by measurement of Garcia score and Rotarod behavior tests. The volume of brain ischemia was measured by triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. The expression levels of related genes and proteins were determined. After cerebral ischemia, corrected infarction volume was significantly reduced in T. gondii infected mice, and their neurobehavioral function was significantly better than that of the uninfection control group. Chronic T. gondii infection induced the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) in the brain before MCAO. T. gondii infection also increased the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor after the cerebral ischemia. It is suggested that chronic intracerebral infection of T. gondii may be a potential preconditioning strategy to reduce neural deficits associated with cerebral ischemia and induce brain ischemic tolerance through the regulation of HIF-1α expression.

신장발육 및 재생에 따른 insulin-like growth factor(IGF)-I 및 IGF-binding protein의 변화 (Alteration of Insulin-like Growth Factor(IGF)-I and IGF-Binding Proteins in Renal Development and Regeneration)

  • 목적 : Insuln-like growth factor(IGF)-I및 -II는 성장인자로 일군의 IGF-binding protein(IGFBP)에 의하여 그 작용이 조절된다. IGF-I은 백서 신장에서 발견되고 대사효과와 성장효과를 갖고 있다. 이번 연구는 백서에서 신장발육과 허혈성 신손상 후 재생과정 동안에 IGFBP의 발현이 변화하는지를 보고자 한다. 방법 : 태생 15주부터 성숙 할때까지 백서 신장에서 IGFBP 발현의 변화를 알아보기 위해 Northern blotting을 시행하였고, 급성신부전 백서의 신장에서 IGF-IGBP axis의 변화를 보기 위해 Northern blotting과 Immunohisto-chemistry를 이용하였다. 결과 : IGFBP-1과 -3는 태생기에는 거의 발현되지 않다가 출생 후 7일째부터 성숙이 끝날 때까지 점진적으로 증가하였다. 반면에 IGFBP-2와 -5는 태생기에 많이 발현되고, IGFBP-2는 출생 후 7일째까지 IGFBP-5는 30일째까지 높은 농도를 유지하다가 급격히 감소하였다. 한편 IGFBP-4는 태생기에 중등도로 발현되는데 출생 후 증가하기 시작하여 7일째 가장 많이 발현되다가 급격히 감소하였다. 신손상 후 IGFBP의 변화를 보면 IGFBP-1과 -4는 재생기간 동안 3-5배 증가되다가 정상으로 회복된 반면 IGFBP-3와 IGFBP Related Protein-1(IGFBPrP-1) 은 신손상 1일째에는 약간 감소하다가 그후 증가하여 정상보다 약간 높은 수준을 유지하였다. 결론 : 백서 신장에서 신장구조나 기능의 발달, 분화 및 재생에 대한 IGF의 작용을 조절할 수 있는 IGFBP 발현에 현저한 변화가 있었다.

EFFECTS OF DIETARY PROTEIN LEVEL, RESTRICTED FEEDING, STRAIN AND AGE ON EGGSHELL QUALITY IN LAYING HENS

  • The effects of four factors-two dietary protein levels (12 and 16%), feeding methods(ad libitum and restricted), strains (A and B), and age of hens-on egg quality and laying performance were examined. Use of the 12% dietary protein level resulted in significantly lower (p < 0.05) hen-day egg production, higher feed intake to about 85% of the ad libitum intake decreased mean hen-day production. Significant feeding method-by-age interactions ($F{\times}A$) were obtained for all parameters. Restricted feeding had favorable effects on shell strength and Haugh unit values after 28 and 16 weeks of egg production, respectively. There was significant difference in shell strength between the two strain. Examination of the three-factor interaction among protein levels, feeding method and strain ($P{\times}F{\times}S$) disclosed that the favorable effect of the A strain on shell strength was significant only with the 16% protein-restricted fed group. The other treatment group did show a trend for greater shell strength of the A strain. Mean values for all the parameters examined changed significantly (p < 0.01) with the age of hens. Feed intake per dozen eggs tended to increase, with some fluctuation, as the hens aged. There was a linear decrease in Haugh unit scores and shell strength. The effect of restricted feeding on either shell strength or Haugh unit scores were favorable for the aged chickens.

  • The main objective of this research is to find out whether there exist any user interface factors that influence service information management professionals(SIMP)'s business activities on the web. The result of this study shows that there exists a significant level of difference between two groups of office Professionals: SIMP and general office management professionals on user interface factors. We analyzed the past and current research results and focused on four major evaluation categories: (1) web design, (2) structure, (3) navigation, and (4) interaction and identified 26 evaluation items in those categories. The study has been initiated by an intuition that there might be a significant difference in sets of user interface factors that influence SIMP and general office professionals. From the list of Best 100 Web Sites the best 30 information-providing web sites and the best 30 service-providing web sites were carefully chosen by a panel of 10 members for each group. To evaluate 60 web sites, another panel was formed by 30 professionals from each group, and they conducted evaluation in their own work settings. Reliability analysis on user interface factors and T-test to find out any influencing factors on SIMP were performed. As a result of this study, we have recognized that clarity, formation, consciseness, economics, and robustness are the most influencing user interface factors for web designers to concern when they develop web sites for SIMP. The study result can be improved by enhancing reliability of choosing target web sites In investigate and panel members. Also, in the future study it is recommended to investigate influencing factors for office professionals in terms of. age, sex, experience, academic background, etc.

온라인 학습에서 콘텐츠의 제시유형과 제시수준, 메타인지가 학습에 미치는 효과 (The effect of contents presentation types, levels and metacognition on concept map in online learning)

  • 본 연구는 온라인 학습에서 콘텐츠의 제시유형과 제시수준, 그리고 학습자의 메타인지가 학습에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 실시되었다. 이를 위해 온라인 학습 콘텐츠의 제시유형과 제시수준, 그리고 학습자의 메타인지에 따른 개념도 형성과 학습 과정을 살펴보았다. 온라인 학습 콘텐츠의 제시유형은 의미중심형과 맥락중심형으로, 제시수준은 기본형과 결핍형으로 구분하여 제공하였고, 학습자의 메타인지는 검사결과에 따라 상하 두 집단으로 구분하였다. 연구결과는 콘텐츠의 제시유형에서 의미중심형(M=45.00, SE=1.97)이 맥락중심형(M=34.71, SE=1.98)보다 더 높은 개념도 형성을 보였다. 콘텐츠의 제시수준별 집단간(F=.002, p>.05), 메타인지 상하 집단간에는 의의 있는 차이가 없었다. 그러나 제시수준과 메타인지 사이에 상호작용(F=6.225, p<.05) 효과가 있어 메타인지 상집단은 결핍형에서, 하집단은 기본형에서 보다 높은 개념도 형성을 보였다. 또한 온라인 학습 과정 분석을 통해 학습자의 메타인지가 콘텐츠의 결점과 결핍을 보완하여 학습을 실행하게 하는 중요요인임을 확인할 수 있었다.

Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus Infection in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: a Case-control Study in Wuhan, China

  • High risk forms of the human papilloma virus (HPV) are generally accepted as necessary causative agents for cervical cancer. Recently, a possible relation between HPV and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has also been noticed. The present study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of HPV infection in OSCCs in Wuhan city. DNA samples were collected from fresh tissues in 200 patients with OSCC and 68 normal controls. The polymerase chain reaction and direct sequencing were used to identify the HPV types in the samples. The prevalence of HPV of all types in the OSCC group was higher than in the control group (55/200 vs 2/68, OR=11.5, 95% CI=2.6-50.2). HPV16 and HPV18 were the main types detected, with HPV6 was the only low-risk type identified. High-risk HPV types HPV16 and HPV18 are prevalent in OSCC patients and may participate in the development of OSCC with traditional risk factors, tobacco and alcohol, possibly exerting synergistic effects. The results of multinomial logistic regression showed that those who smoked, consumed alcohol and with HPV infection have the highest risk of developing oral cancer (OR=13.3, 95% CI=3.1-56.8). Adjusted for age, smoking and alcohol use, HPV infection was independently associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

관찰자의 종교와 가치관이 카톨릭 사제복의 인상 형성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Perceiver's Variables(value and religion)on the Impression of Korean Catholic Priest s Ritual Dress)

  • The purpose of the present study was to identify the effect of perceivers’value and religions on the impresson of Korean catholic priest’s ritual dress. The subject consisted of 415 undergraduated students. The experimental materials developed for this study were 3type color photographs stimuli of catholic priest model and 7-point sementic differential scale composed of 49 bipolar adjectives representing personal traits. Perceivers were differenciated by AVL test. The data were analyzed by factor analysis and analysis of variance. The major findings drawl from this study were as follows : 1) Four factors( openness, religious nature, potency, characteristics of apperance) emerged to account for the dimentional structure of the impression of priest’s ritual dress. 2) The ritual dress and perceivers religion had partially significant effect on the impression of the priest. The ritual dress had an effect on openness and potency while the religious of perceivers affected religious symbolism and potency. Black suit with Roman collar and soutan were seen more authoritative, strong and independent than liturgical vestments. Catholic group saw priest with ritual dress more pure and potent than the other religious groups. 3) The ritual dress and perceiver’s value had partially significant effect on the impression of the priest. The ritual dress had an effect on openness, potency and the value had an significant interaction effect on potency. The group with political value perceived the priest with soutan more potent than black suit with Roman collar and liturgical vestments. Therefore the ritual dress and perceivers’value/religion had significant erect on Korean priest impression of openness, religious nature, potency. Research had also shown the similarity-attraction hypothesis which the individuals who hold similar characterisics are more Likely to be attracted.

  • NIL (nanoimprint lithography) technique has demonstrated a high potential for wafer size definition of nanometer as well as micrometer size patterns. During the replication process by NIL, the stiction between the stamp and the polymer is one of major problems. This stiction problem is moi·e important in small sized patterns. An antistiction layer prevents this stiction ana insures a clean demolding process. In this paper, we were using a TCP (transfer coupled plasma) equipment and $C_4F_8$ as a precursor to make a Teflon-like antistiction layer. This antistiction layer was deposited on a 6 inch silicon wafer to have nanometer scale thicknesses. The thickness of deposited antistiction layer was measured by ellipsometry. To optimize the process factor such as table height (TH), substrate temperature (ST), working pressure (WP) and plasma power (PP), we were using a design of experimental (DOE) method. The table of full factorial arrays was set by the 4 factors and 2 levels. Using this table, experiments were organized to achieve 2 responses such as deposition rate and non-uniformity. It was investigated that the main effects and interaction effects between parameters. Deposition rate was in proportion to table height, working pressure and plasma power. Non-uniformity was in proportion to substrate temperature and working pressure. Using a response optimization, we were able to get the optimized deposition condition at desired deposition rate and an experimental deposition rate showed similar results.

Role of Nitric Oxide in Leukocyte-Endothelial Interaction in Cerebral Venules during Reperfusion after Global Ischemia

  • Objective : Reactive oxygen metabolites and polymorphonuclear leukocytes have been implicated in the pathophysiology of reperfusion injury. The mechanisms involved in superoxide-mediated leukocyte adherence remain unclear, however, nitric oxide[NO] may contribute to this response. The present study is undertaken to elucidate mechamisms controlling NO based mechanisms that regulated leukocyte-endothelial interactions in the cerebral vasculature after global cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Methods : Pial venular leukocyte adherence of anesthetized newborn piglets was quantified by in situ fluorescence videomicroscopy through closed cranial windows during basal conditions and during 2hours of reperfusion after global ischemia induced by 9minutes of asphyxia. Nitric oxide synthase[NOS] was inhibited by local window superfusion of L-nitroarginine[NA]; superfusion of sodium nitroprusside[SNP] was used to donate NO. Results : The mean number of adherent leukocytes to cerebral venules in the 9minutes asphyxia and 2hours reperfusion group were $161{\pm}19$ compared with $13{\pm}4$ in the nonasphyxial group. Superfusion of L-NA through the cranial window for 2hours resulted in leukocyte adherence similar to that observed during the initial 2hours of reperfusion after asphyxia. Leukocyte adherence was not additionally increased in asphyxic animal treated with L-NA. SNP inhibited asphyxia induced leukocyte adherence back to control levels. Conclusions : Nitric oxide inhibits leukocyte adherence to cerebral venules during the initial hours of reperfusion after asphyxia, and that NO supplementation inhibit asphyxia induced leukocyte adherence back to control levels. These results indicate that NO is an important factor in ischemia-reperfusion induced leukocyte adherence.
