A Field Experiments Study for Coaching Effects Verification: Relation between Coaching and Self-esteem, Career Decision Making Self-efficacy, and Career Preparation Behavior (코칭 효과 검증을 위한 현장실험연구: 코칭과 자아존중감, 진로결정자기효능감 및 진로준비행동 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between coaching and self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior through field experiments. To accomplish the purpose of the study, as the purposeful sampling was selected 50 male university students in Chungnam, South Korea. This experimental design, 25 university students were assigned to an experimental group, and another 25 university students were assigned to a control group. The experimental group had four sessions of coaching program. The control group did not have any coaching sessions. After four coaching sessions, questionnaires were administrated again. To conduct ANCOVA, pre-measurement scores for each dependent variable were included as covariates and post-measurement scores were included as dependent variables. The result proved the effect of coaching on self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. As the results of analysis, for control group, there was no difference between before and after measurement for each dependent variable. However, there was statistically significant difference between before and after measurement for each dependent variable in experimental group. This result confirmed that coaching caused increase in the level of self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. The result like this has a significance to be able to be used as a basic data that used efficiently in the field of career guidance and HRD for university student.

The Study on Development and Effectiveness of Web-based Cyber Class Contents for University Student's Career Education (대학생의 진로교육을 위한 웹기반 사이버강의 콘텐츠 개발 및 효과검증)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop cyber class contents on website and to verify the effectiveness of the program to reinforce a career education. The participants of the experiment in this study are from Namseoul University who took the cyber class 'Self management and creation of vision.' of the second semester in 2015. They took the class fifty-sixty minutes a week. The control group also includes the students who took the classes 'Theory and practice of school violence prevention' and 'Youth Education theory.' To verify the effectiveness of career education, the data processing in performing this study utilized t-test for homogeneity with the effective variable of career identity and career decision and the result was proved by using paired t-test. The result suggests that the experiment group significantly shows improvement compared with the control group in the view of career identity and career decision level. Therefore we recognize that the web based cyber course has its effect on content development and career education and we anticipate the continuous development and activation of effective cyber education on website for university students in future.

Exploring Decision-Making Factors of Psychiatric Nurses in the Application of Seclusion and Restraint: Applying Focus Group Interviews (정신간호사의 격리·강박 적용에 대한 의사결정 요인 탐색: 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 적용)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore psychiatric nurses' decision making in the use of seclusion and restraint (SR). Methods: Data were collected using focus group interviews. Two focus group interviews were held with a total of 10 psychiatric nurse participants. All interviews were recorded and transcribed, and data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Eleven categories emerged from three main themes. All the themes describe factors that participants took into account when deciding whether to implement SR: 1) Personal factors area: 'Personal attributes of nurses,' 'Attitude of nurses regarding SR,' 'Nurses' physical and emotional states,' 'Negative experiences of nurses related to SR'; 2) Relational factors area: 'The level of cooperation between nurses and doctors,' 'Role models created by seniors and colleagues,' 'The level of support by nursing assistants,' 'Therapeutic relations with patients'; and 3) Environmental factors area: 'Poor nursing work environment,' 'Atmosphere of ward regarding SR,' and 'Social atmosphere to raise alarm about SR.' Conclusion: These findings should be considered in the evaluation of the use of SR in psychiatric hospital settings and appropriate strategies used to help minimize the use of restraint.

The Development and Effects of a Tailored Simulation Learning Program for New Nursing Staffs in Intensive Care Units and Emergency Rooms (중환자실과 응급실 초보간호사를 위한 맞춤형 시뮬레이션 학습프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a tailored simulation learning (SL) program and to evaluate the effects of the program on the clinical competency, clinical decision-making competency, and communicative competency of new nursing staffs in intensive care units (ICU) and emergency rooms (ER). Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, fifteen nurses were assigned to the experimental group and fifteen to the control group. The experimental group was given the SL program of four sessions, whereas the lectures of four sessions were given to the control group. Data were analyzed using a $x^2$-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal-Wallis test with an SPSS program. Analysis of covariance was used to treat the covariate of pre communicative competency between the experimental and control groups. Results: Based on the education needs of new nursing staffs in ICUs and ERs, three learning scenarios and one evaluating scenario were developed for the SL program. The score for clinical competency, clinical decision-making competency, and communicative competency were significantly higher in the experimental group compared with the control group. Conclusion: The SL program is an effective learning strategy for new nursing staffs in ICUs and ERs. These findings suggest that an SL program be offered as an alternative for new nurse orientation and continuing nurse education.

Perceived Intrinsic and Extrinsic Rewards on Nurses' Job Enthusiasm (인지된 내적 외적 보상이 간호사의 직무 열정에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to understand the relationship between nurses' rewards and job enthusiasm, using the data from the 5th Korean Working Conditions Survey(2017). The subjects of this study consist of 359 nurses randomly sampled nationwide(218 from youth group, 141 from midddle age group). The effects of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards on job enthusiasm was indentified through GLM analysis. The results reveal that, for the entire group, participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, recognition at work, work-life balance influence job enthusiasm. For the youth group, participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, and work-life balance are the influencing factors; while for the middle age group, sense of achievement, self-esteem, and recognition at work are the influencing factors. In conclusion, we suggest establishing a reward system that incorporates participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, recognition at work, and work-life balance, in order to boost nurses' job enthusiasm. Also, taking age groups into account when establishing such system may improve efficiency.

Nutrition Knowledge of and Attitudes toward Breast-Feeding and Food Habits in Relation to the Expected Infant Feeding Method among Male and Female College Students (남녀 대학생의 예상 수유방법에 따른 모유영양에 관한 지식과 태도 및 식습관의 비교)

  • In order to provide the basic data on an education program for successful breast-feeding, the nutrition knowledge of and attitudes toward breast-feeding and the factors associated with infant feeding decision among male and female college students were investigated. The majority of students had correct knowledge of the maternal-infant bonding through breast-feeding and knew more about baby-centered benefits than about mother-centered benefits of breast-feeding. Students' attitudes toward breast-feeding were not so positive as expected, and male students had more positive attitudes toward breast-feeding than female students had. 54.8% of students answered to practice breast-feeding longer than 3 months. Nutrition knowledge scores and attitude scores were significantly higher in the breast-feeding decision group than in the formula-feeding decision group. The students residing in a rural community decided breast-feeding significantly more than the students residing in an urban community. It was concluded that nutrition knowledge about the breast-feeding played a significant role in deciding infant feeding method. In order to increase breast-feeding decision rates among college students, the education program may need to focus on understanding of correct nutrition knowledge about the benefits of breast-feeding. Also it would be important to have male students participated in education program.

Decision-tree Model of Treatment-seeking Behaviors after Detecting Symptoms by Korean Stroke Patients

  • Purpose. This study was performed to develop and test a decision-tree model of treatment-seeking behaviors about when Korean patients visit a doctor after experiencing stroke symptoms. Methods. The study used methodological triangulation. The model was developed based on qualitative data collected from in-depth interviews with 18 stroke patients. The model was tested using quantitative data collected from interviews and a structured questionnaire involving 150 stroke patients. The predictability of the decision-tree model was quantified as the proportion of participants who followed the pathway predicted by the model. Results. Decision outcomes of the model were categorized into immediate and delayed treatment-seeking behavior. The model was influenced by lowered consciousness, social-group influences, perceived seriousness of symptoms, past history of hypertension or stroke, and barriers to hospital visits. The predictability of the model was found to be 90.7%. Conclusions. The results from this study can help healthcare personnel understand the education needs of stroke patients regarding treatment-seeking behaviors, and hence aid in the development of educational strategies for stroke patients.

Multi-person Multi-attribute Decision Making Problems Based on Interval-valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Information

  • Based on the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy hybrid geometric (IIFHG) operator and the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy weighted geometric (IIFWG) operator, we investigate the group decision making problems in which all the information provided by the decision-makers is presented as interval-valued in tuitionistic fuzzy decision matrices where each of the elements is characterized by interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers, and the information about attribute weights is partially known. Anumerical example is used to illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

A Qualitative Assessment of Korean and American Consumers Decision Making Styles

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in the decision making styles of Korean and American consumers. Focus group interviews were used as the median to collect information related to their methods of approach to a market to buy a universal need such as clothing for personal use. Findings suggest that within each construct, there may be different factors that should be used to measure the decision making styles of Korean and American consumers. It also implies that the previously established Consumer Decision making styles instrument may not be a reliable measure cross-culturally. Recommendations for future research are suggested.
