  • Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanomaterials were synthesized from mechanically ground GaN powders with thermal annealing Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanobelts were farmed in a nitrogen atmosphere, while Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanoparticles were formed inan oxygen atmosphere. The structural properties of the Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanomaterials were investigated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and high-resolution transmission eleotron microscope (HRTEM). The study of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) on the microstructures of nanomaterials revealed that the nanobelts are with the range of about 10∼200nm width and 10∼50nm thickness, and that nanoparticles are with the range of about 20∼50nm radius. On the basis of XRD and HRTEM data, we determined that the nanobelts grow toward a direction perpendicular to the (010) lattice plane and that they are enclosed by facets of the (10T) and (101) lattice planes. The formation of the nanobelts may be described by the vapor-solid(VS) mechanism, and the supersaturation device of gaseous phase may play an important role in the formation of Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanomaterials.

  • Recently, the cityward tendency of the population has caused the construction of a high rise apartment increased, because it is possible for many people to dwell on a small ground area in an apartment. In the future the number of the constructed high-rise apartment units will also increase, because many people require a better environment and more improved space of their life. However, apartment buildings with many dwellers in spite of small area are exposed to great dangers, particularly fire. So the adaptable control methods of smoke which is the most dangerous to people in a fire were proposed by an analysis on some standards for the fire in this study.

  • Fault plane solutions of the Iksan earthquake ($M_L=3.85$) and two aftershocks were obtained using the FOCMEC (FOCal MEChanism determination) program. The main event showed the characteristic of strike slip faulting with reverse component. It has the fault planes with NE-SW or NW-SE direction. This is similar to the fault characteristics of earthquake pattern in the inland area of the Korean Peninsula. In order to detect micro-earthquake events, continuous seismic waveform data of the thirteen seismic stations within a radius of 100km from epicenter were analyzed by PQLII program (PASSCAL, 2017) for the period from December 15, 2015 to January 22, 2016. The epicenters of nineteen micro-events were newly determined by Hypoinverse-2000 program. They are not concentrated along some lineaments or fault lines. The intensity of the Iksan earthquake was obtained by estimating the telephone inquiries, the degree of ground shaking or damage all around the southern peninsula. The instrumental intensity was also obtained using PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) records. As a result, the maximum MM intensity was estimated to be V near the epicenter.

  • Feasibility of using PE sheet laminated CSP(Corrugated steel pipe) to sewers were tested via corrosion and abrasion tests for PE sheet laminated CSP; 1) corrosion test for PE film and PE coated plate, 2) corrosion test for joint of PE sheet laminated CSP, 3) corrosion test for outside of PE sheet laminated CSP, and 4) abrasion test for inside of PE sheet laminated CSP. The results for the corrosion and abrasion tests are as follows. 1. Results for corrosion tests on PE films and zinc coated steel plates that were coated with PE films show that the surfaces of both PE were not changed compared to those of original PE samples. Furthermore, PE films maintained strong adhesion on the steel plates even though they were exposed to sewage and seawater provided cutting planes of the steel plates were treated with molding. But, results for corrosion tests on the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting planes of the steel plates were treated without molding show that steel plates have been corroded if they were exposed to sewage and seawater. 2. Results for corrosion tests on joints of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel using sewage show that gathering rust was observed at cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel after 180 days, but PE film was not flaked off. However, PE film at cutting plane was flaked off when PE sheet laminated corrugated steel was exposed to seawater. Furthermore, flaking process was severely progressed at lockseam points of which the surfaces were not smooth. 3. Results for laying PE sheet laminated corrugated steel under the ground show that the surface of untouched PE film was almost identical to that of original PE film. However, the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel have flaked off. 4. As a result of abrasion tests conducted with PE sheet laminated corrugated steel and sand, brilliance and thickness of PE was not greatly changed under the severe abrasion conditions. Therefore, the durability of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel for abrasion was determined to be good.

  • The host rock of standing sculptured Buddha in the Yongamsa temple was macular biotite granite, which has gone through mechanical and chemical weathering. The principal rock-forming minerals are quartz, plagioclase, alkali feldspar, and biotite, the last two of which have been transformed into clay minerals and chlorite due to weathering processes. The bed rock around the Buddha statue is busily scattered with steep inclinations that are almost vertical and discontinuous planes with the strikes of $N8^{\circ}E$. The major joints have the strikes of N4 to $52^{\circ}W$ and N6 to $88^{\circ}E$ and the dips of 42 to $89^{\circ}$. Especially thee development of the joints that cross the major joints causes tile structural instability of the rock. The host rock of the Buddha image is separated into many different rock masses because of the also many different discontinuity, which group accounts for about $12{\%}$ of the rock. Thus it's estimated that the bed rock has not only plane and toppling failure but also wedge failure in all the sides. Since the earth pressure and the inclination pressure are imposed on the body of the Buddha in the basement rock, it's urgent to give a treatment of geotechnical engineering for the sake of its structural stability. The parts where serious fractures are seen should receive the hardening process using the fillers for stones. It's also necessary to introduce a landfill liner system in order to reduce the ground humidity. The rock surface of the Buddha statue are partly contaminated by lichens and bryophyte. The joints have turned into earth, which promotes the growth of weeds and plant roots. Thus biochemical treatments should also be considered to get rid of the vegetation along the discontinuous planes and prevent further biological damages.

  • In Korea, granite is abundant and occupies around two-thirds of the country's ground. Bven though weathered granite residual soils are widely distributed, undisturbed sampling of this soil is extremely difficult because of the particultate structure. This difficulty has kept away the researchers from investigating !he deformational characteristics of weathered granite residual soil. Thus, a special undisturbed sampling device was developed and undisturbed samples were prepared for triaxial compression (TX), resonant column(RC), and torsional shear (75) tests. Local deformation transducer (LDT) was fabricated for internal strain measurements during TX tests. Both undisturbed samples and statically compacted samples of same density were tested by using TX with LDT, RC, and 75 test equipments. The behaviour of statically compacted specimens was almost the same as that of undisturbed samples in the strain ranges below 1 percent. The stiffness and strength decreased with increasing degree of weathering. In case of undisturbed specimens, strains at failure are widely varied from 2 percent to 11 percent, and planes of failure are irrelevant to the angle of internal friction due to the inhomogeneous nature.

  • In this paper, a novel sized-reduced CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) balun is proposed. It has a crossing structure between signal line and ground planes of CPW transmission line for the $180^{\circ}$ phase inversion. The$3{\lambda}/4$ CPW transmission line is reduced to ${\lambda}/4$ in physical length while the electrical length is preserved to $270^{\circ}$ by the $180^{\circ}$ phase inverting structure, while the previous balun by Lim et at. has a long $3{\lambda}/4$ transmission section to from the Wilkinson divider structure having out of phase between output ports. In addition, the measured data which show the crossing structure has the wanted $180^{\circ}$ phase change is presented in this work.

  • In this paper, particle swarm optimization(PSO) is applied for the design of frequency selective surface based artificial magnetic conductor. An equivalent circuit model for this artificial magnetic conductor(AMC) with Jerusalem Cross arrays was derived and then PSO was applied for obtaining the optimized geometrical parameters with desired resonant frequency. The resonant frequency and the reflection phase characteristics from the optimization were compared to the results from commercial software for verifying the validity of this paper. The procedure presented in this paper can be applied to design the AMC with different frequency selective surface and also can be used for the design of microwave circuits like the AMC ground planes.

  • The ground of Taegu area consists mainly of shales with elastic sedimentary rocks. These shales have a nonhomogeneous and anisotropic characteristics. So their physical and mechanical properties are very different due to the angles($\beta$ value) of bedding planes of sedimentary rock. In this study, the physical and mechanical characteristics of shales in Taegu area are studied by performing all kinds of rock test. According to results of test, apparent specific gravity of shale decreases as the $\beta$ value increases. On the contrary, porosity and absorption increase. Elastic wave velocity shorts the highest value at the $90^{\circ}$. And Young's modulus shows the maximum value at the $30^{\circ}$. The uniaxial strength, triaxial strength, cohesion and angle of friction show the minimum value at the $60^{\circ}$respectively.
