  • The calculation of the total power required at the Continuous Extrusion Forming(CONFORM) has been performed by the theoretical analysis of three transformation regions(primary grip length and extrusion grip length, flashing). In this study, that was performed by five transformation regions(biting, upsetting, filling, extruding, flashing)and four transformation regions(biting, upsetting and filling, extruding, flashing) and then results of theoretical analyses were compared with experimental results. Results of analysis by four and five transformation regions than that of three transformation regions in the CONFORM showed in a good agreement with experimental results.

  • The term of TOS(thoracic outlet syndrome) is used to describe patients with compressed subclavian artery, subclavian vein, and the brachial plexus in the region of the thoracic outlet. The objective of this study was to evaluate a conservative physical therapy that aims to restore normal function to the upper aperture in patients with TOS. The efficacy of this study which is conservative physical therapy, was assessed by pain, grip power, pinch grip, and satisfaction level of patients. The results were as follow; 1. Pain(VAS) was statistically significant with Group 1 and Group 2(P<0.05), and Group 2 was more statistically significant than Group 1(P<0.05). 2. Spherical grip was statistically significant with Group 1 and Group 2(P<0.05), and Group 2 was more statistically significant than Group 1(P<0.05). 3. Pinch grip was statistically significant with group 1 and Group 2(P<0.05), and Group 2 was more statistical significance than Group 1(P<0.05). 4. Satisfaction level was statistically significant with group 1 and Group 2(P<0.05), and Group 2 was more statistically significant than Group 1(P<0.05).

  • Brain-computer interface (BCI) is being studied for convenient life in various application fields. The purpose of this study is to investigate a changing electroencephalography (EEG) for precise motion of a robot or an artificial arm. Three subjects who participated in this experiment performed three-task: Grip, Move, Relax. Acquired EEG data was extracted feature data using two feature extraction algorithm (power spectrum analysis and multi-common spatial pattern). Support vector machine (SVM) were applied the extracted feature data for classification. The classification accuracy was the highest at Grip class of two subjects. The results of this research are expected to be useful for patients required prosthetic limb using EEG.

  • The Purpose of this study is analysis characteristic of grasping power with each different shoulder horizontal angle. Twenty female university students with no shoulder dysfuction participated subject in three different positions of shoulder horizontal flexion with standing posture, shoulder 0° flexion, elbow 90° flexion, forearm 90° pronation, different positions is followed : shoulder 0° horizontal adduction shoulder 40° horizontal adduction, shoulder 40° horizontal abduction. The One-way repeated ANOVA test was used to determine the different in grip strength on three shoulder horizontal positions. On the average, in the hand grip strength, the horizontal neutral position is higher than horizontal adduction position with significant value. In particular, shoulder horizontal aduction was measured lowest grip strength between three positions.

  • The hand with amputation of all fingers is useless for activities of daily living and traumatic amputation of some of the fingers can result in the diminished ability to perform power grip and precision grip which is vital to maintain normal function of the hand. Precision grip is used to hold an object between the opposable thumb and flexed fingers. In power grip the object is held between the flexed fingers and the palm while the thumb applies the necessary counterpressure to maintain the grip on the object. A 35 year old male lost his right all fingers including thumb at the level of proximal phalanx from the pressure machinary accident. Thumb was reconstructed using wrap around flap and the second and third fingers were reconstructed using the second and third toe transplantation. Seven years after reconstruction, he uses the reconstructed thumb and the second and the third fingers for eating meals, writing down a paper with a pencil and putting on socks.

  • A small unmanned helicopter was suggested to replace the conventional spray system. Aerial application using an agricultural helicopter helps precise and timely spraying, and reduces labor intensity and environmental pollution. In this research, a rotor system (SW05) was developed and its lift capability was evaluated. Lift force for the dead weight of the helicopter was obtained at the grip pitch angle of $12^{\circ}$. As the pitch angle increased to $14^{\circ}$ and $16^{\circ}$, the payload increased to 176 N and 216 N, respectively. Compared with SW04 airfoil performance in the total lift, the SW05 airfoil showed nearly the same capacity, but the payload of the SW05 was reduced because of the increased dead weight. A rated flight condition was defined as lifting mean payload of 294 N with the grip pitch angles of $16{\sim}17^{\circ}$ at the rotor rotating speed of 850~950 rpm for the adjusted engine power. The fuel consumption would be 4.8~6.0 L/hr, and the air temperature of cooling fan should be kept below $160^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents a myoelectric hand prosthesis(MHP) with two degree of freedom(2-DOF), which consists of a mechanical hand, a surface myoelectric sensor(SMES) for measuring myoelectric signal, a control system and a charging battery. The actuation for the 2-DOF hand functions such as grasping and wrist rotation was performed by two DC-motors, and controlled by myoelectric signal measured from the residual forearm muscle. The grip force of the MHP was automatically changed by a mechanical automatic speed reducer mounted on the hand. The skin interface of SMES was composed of the electrodes using the SUS440 metal in order to endure a wet condition due to the sweat. The sensor was embedded with a amplifier and a filter circuit for rejecting the offset voltage caused by power line noises. The control system was composed of the grip force sensor, the slip sensor, and the two controllers. The two controllers were made of a RISC-type microprocessor, and its software was executed on a real-time kernel. The control system used Force Sensing Resistors, FSR, as slip pick-ups at the fingertip of a thumb and the grip force information was obtained from a strain-gauge on the lever of the MHP. The experimental results were showed that the proposed control system is feasible for the MHP.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the patient with radial nerve injury associated with humerus shaft fracture, who was improved by Korean medical treatments. Methods : The patient was treated by Jungsongouhyul pharmacopuncture, electrical stimulation therapy, physical therapy, and herbal medicine according to "Locating Yang brightness meridians" theory. Coding result, Numeric rating scale(NRS) and digital grip dynamometer were used to evaluate the wrist drop, numbness of fingers and grip power. Results : The patient showed the first sign of recovery after 6 weeks from onset. After 9 weeks from onset, the patient could perform delicate manual activity. Grip power showed noticeable improvement as well as coding result and NRS. Conclusions : The results suggest that providing Korean medical treatments according to "Locating Yang brightness meridians" theory is a good method for treating radial nerve injury associated with humerus shaft fracture. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of this method for treating radial nerve injury associated with humerus fracture.
