Numerical prediction of the diffusion controlled transition in a turbine gas pass is important because it can change the local heat transfer rate over a turbine blade as much as three times. In this study, the gas flow over turbine blade is simplified to the flat plate boundary layer, and an adaptive grid scheme redistributing grid points within the computation domain is proposed with a great emphasis on the construction of the grid control function. The function is sensitized to the second invariant of the mean strain tensor, its spatial gradient, and the interaction of pressure gradient and flow deformation. The transition process is assumed to be described with a κ-ε turbulence model. An elliptic solver is employed to integrate governing equations. Numerical results show that the proposed adaptive grid scheme is very effective in obtaining grid independent numerical solution with a very low grid number. It is expected that present scheme is helpful in predicting actual flow within a turbine to improve computation efficiency.
The flowfields generated by gaseous slot injection into a supersonic flow at a Mach number of 3.75 and a Reynolds number of $2.07{\times}10^7$ are simulated numerically. Fine-scale turbulence effects are represented by a two-equation(k-w SST model) closure model which includes $y^+$ effects on the turbulence model. Grid convergence index(GCI) is also considered to provide a measure of uncertainty of the grid convergence. Comparison is made with experimental data and other turbulence model in term of surface static pressure distributions, the length of the upstream separation region, and the penetration height. Results indicate that the k-w SST model correctly predicts mean surface pressure distribution and upstream separation length. However, it is also observed that the numerical simulation over predicts the pressure spike and penetration height compared with experimental data. All these results are taken within $1\%$ error band of grid convergence.
In this study, we provide a comprehensive review of the CIP(Constrained Interpolation Pro file/Cubic Interpolated Propagation) method with a pressure-based algorithm that is known as a general numerical solver for soled liquid, gas and plasmas. And also we introduce a body-fitted grid system(Soroban grid) for computation of strongly nonlinear marine hydrodynamic problems such as slamming water on deck, wave impact by green water. This grid system can keep the third-order accuracy in time and space with the help of the CIP method. The grid system consists of the straight lines and grid points. In the 2-dimensional grid case, each grid points moving in these lines like abacus - Soroban in Japanese. The length of each line can be different and the number of grid points in each line can be different. Mesh generation and searching of upstream departure point are very simple and possible to mesh-free treatment. To optimize computation of free-surface and multi-fluid flows, We adopt the C-CUP method. In most of the earlier computations, the C-CUP method was used with a staggered-grid approach. Here, because of the mesh free nature of the Soroban grid, we use the C-CUP method with a collocated-grid approach.
Numerical simulations of two-dimensional steady incompressible lid-driven flow in a square cavity are presented to verify the validity of a new solution code(PowerCFD) with unstructured grids. The code uses the non-staggered(collocated) grid approach which is very popular for incompressible flow analysis because of its numerical efficiency on the curvilinear or unstructured grids. Solutions are obtained for configurations with a Reynolds number as high as 10,000 with both rectangular and hybrid types of unstructured grid mesh. Interesting features of the flow are presented in detail and comparisons are made with benchmark solutions found in the literature. It is found that the code is capable of producing accurately the nature of the lid-driven cavity flow at high Reynolds numbers.
The flatness is the most important nature for the surface table. For finding such a flatness, the surface is surveyed along a number of straight lines parallel to the edges of table, which form a grid. Next, the variations in height of the grid points are measured relative to a datum point. If the number of such points is increased. It is not necessarily to use many grid points for finding the original flatness of a measured surface table. So, it is necessary to find the rational quantity of such grid points. It is found that about 220 points per $1m^2$ of surface table for measurement is the rational quantity with less than about 15% error of the original flatness.
No matter how well the equally spaced grounding grid is designed, there are questions keep rising, such as leakage of current from comer conductor, high voltage of touch voltage in corners of grid than in center, and high material cost for grounding grid. The best-fitted design for unequally spaced grounding grid is a part that must be considered. Explain advantages of unequally spaced grounding grid and lead formula by dividing the number of grid division, j, into 20, instead of 7. Then present $D_{ij}$, which is optimum rate for unequally spaced grounding grid and verify safety and economy of the unequally spaced grounding grid by computer simulation with a poly-nominal function form.
The machine-part group formation is to group the sets of parts having similar processing requirements into part families, and the sets of machines needed to process a particular part family into machine cells using grid computing. It forms machine cells from the machine-part incidence matrix by means of Self-Organizing Maps(SOM) whose output layer is one-dimension and the number of output nodes is the twice as many as the number of input nodes in order to spread out the machine vectors. It generates machine-part group which are assigned to machine cells by means of the number of bottleneck machine with processing part. The proposed algorithm was tested on well-known machine-part grouping problems. The results of this computational study demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm.
