  • Urbanization and industrialization associated with rapid economic development have resulted in air pollution in urban areas, which adversely affects human health and the environment around the world. Growing awareness of the health effects of airborne particulate matter (PM) has led to the emergence of urban greening as a promising eco-friendly, nature-based solution to reduce the concentration of PM (especially PM2.5) to which individuals are exposed, thereby promoting public health. In this review, we highlight fundamental insights about PM and recent research on the ability of urban greening to capture PM. Reports from the scientific literature on PM published from 1992 to 2021 were retrieved from Google Scholar. Here, we explore some of the main complex relationships between leaf traits and the ability to retain PM for research or management to optimize greenspaces.

  • Artificial ground greening, which is considered as a way for the greening of cities, should be constructed easily and maintained continuously. Thus it is necessary to use light soils for keeping in flexible formation and light load. And the garden should be managed optimally taking account for the characteristics of the soil and plant. But in most landscape green area, they are not under management. Mostly they are occasionally irrigated without nutrient by hand-operating. So this study was conducted to investigate plant growth by management methods and soil depth(15cm, 30cm). As a results of the different methods of management had effect on the plant growth and on the rate of flowering. When Hosta longipes were grown in different three management methods, control(rainfall), periodical irrigation, and nutri-irrigation(fertigation), the content of chlorophyll, the plant growth and the rate of flowering were higher in nutri-irrigation (fertigation) treatment than those in control(rainfall) and periodic irrigation. And nutrient contents of leaf are also higher. Between 15cm and 30cm soil depth, the plant growth of 15cm soil depth is better than that of 30 soil depth. According to these results on artificial ground greening, determination of optimal soil depth by plant species is required, And a specialist for nutrient management is demanded.

  • This study relates to measure impact of green technology on industry sector by uses of industry greening indices. For this study, we performed patent trend analysis, technology-industry concordance analysis, and designed some industry greening indices. Through the results of this research, we found out the impact of Korean high priority green technologies on respective industries, and consequently identified which industries play an important role in the era of green innovation. IT related industries would catch somewhat weak attention in green technology policy, though they manufacture and use plenty of patents at present. Meanwhile, Energy related industry, such as battery industry would catch strong attention in green innovation, showed very high value of industry greening indices. In order to design proper R&D strategy for green technologies, understanding industry and market structure that can adapt and promote green technology innovation is important. In this context, this study could be an effective and systematic tool for assisting green innovation policy. Also, these indices developed are not limited to the case of green technology, other technologies can be used universally as a input for analysis.

  • Effects of heating, pH, organic acids and some salts on color changes of ground garlic, expressed by Hunter color values, were investigated during storage. The organic acids, such as acetic, citric and lactic acids rather enhanced greening, while NaCl affected little. As the pH decreased to 4.0, greening was significantly reduced. Among the several phosphates tested, $Na_{2}HPO_{4}\;and\;Na_{3}PO_{4}$ showed some positive effects and other chemicals, such as BHA, BHT, propyl gallate and glutathione showed little or negative effects on both greening and browning of ground garlic. Heating at $80^{\circ}C$ for up to 10 mins at pH range of $3.0{\sim}5.0$ caused a severe greening mostly, while heating at $90\;and\;100^{\circ}C$ for 30 mins or longer resulted in a decrease in greening and an increase in yellow color of ground garlic.

  • This study is to make plans for perpendicular greening with artificial ground of planter type to improve urban environment. The experiments of this study are performed to find out the suitable soil and irrigation method for artificial ground of planter greening. Thereupon, organic or inorganic soil improvement material is mixed with soil of each planter as experiment, In result, the plants in soil mixed organic soil improvement material thrive rather than that in soil mixed inorganic material, It is to be desired that the planter equip with the irrigation system, be wider than planter and be planted shrubs for positive plant growth. As for irrigation system, drip irrigation is effective on plant growth southern exposure but Ebb and Flow is effective eastern exposure. Therefore, irrigation system should consist of two types above plus keeping water on the bottom of planter to save water and store rainwater.

  • The effects of 0.2 ppm ozone on the developing chloroplast of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seedling during greening were examined by chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic electron tiansport activity, Fo, Fv and fluorescence quenching coefficient. Chlorophyll contents of seedling treated with ozone were not changed in comparison with the control during the 96 h greening experiment, but PS II activity of the chloroplasts of seedlings treated with ozone was decreases by- l5%. Fo was slightly decreased but Fv was decreases by 5% in comparison with the control, In fluorescence quenching analysis, qP and qE were decreased by 11% and 9%, respectively, in comparison with the control. These results suggest that oxidation site of PS II is the site affected mostly and PQ pool is also affected slightly by 0.2 ppm ozone.

  • This research focuses primarily on the feasibility of applying bryophyte to man-made structures in modern urban environment. The study is based both on the role of bryophyte known in the process of the naturalization that life has come on the land and the physiological and ecological characteristics of bryophyte. The primary characteristics of this species lie in its desiccation-tolerance and poikilohydry that supports its enduring survival even under the desperate environmental conditions. The monitoring of applying bryophyte to man-made structures has shown us that bryophyte could control microclimate conditions, help to mitigate flood by reducing runoff, and lessen thermal conductivity, etc. The application of bryophyte to man-made structures has just started since 2002. Even though efforts to use bryophyte in greening man-made structures in Japan and Korea have resulted in both successes and failures, it is noticeable that there has been quite much technical progress in using this unique plant species.
