The nonlinear thermal buckling load parameter of the laminated composite panel structure is investigated numerically using the higher-order theory including the stretching effect through the thickness and presented in this research article. The large geometrical distortion of the curved panel structure due to the elevated thermal loading is modeled via Green-Lagrange strain field including all of the higher-order terms to achieve the required generality. The desired solutions are obtained numerically using the finite element steps in conjunction with the direct iterative method. The concurrence of the present nonlinear panel model has been established via adequate comparison study with available published data. Finally, the effect of different influential parameters which affect the nonlinear buckling strength of laminated composite structure are examined through numerous numerical examples and discussed in details.

In this article, large amplitude bending behaviour of laminated composite flat panel under combined effect of moisture, temperature and mechanical loading is investigated. The laminated composite panel model has been developed mathematically by introducing the geometrical nonlinearity in Green-Lagrange sense in the framework of higher-order shear deformation theory. The present study includes the degraded composite material properties at elevated temperature and moisture concentration. In order to achieve any general case, all the nonlinear higher order terms have been included in the present formulation and the material property variations are introduced through the micromechanical model. The nonlinear governing equation is obtained using the variational principle and discretised using finite element steps. The convergence behaviour of the present numerical model has been checked. The present proposed model has been validated by comparing the responses with those available published results. Some new numerical examples have been solved to show the effect of various parameters on the bending behaviour of laminated composite flat panel under hygro-thermo-mechanical loading.

The fatigue analysis and lifetime evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. Fatigue lifetime prediction methodology of the rubber component was proposed by incorporating the finite element analysis and fatigue damage parameter from fatigue test. Finite element analysis of 3D dumbbell specimen and rubber component were performed based on a hyper-elastic material model determined from material test. The Green-Lagrange strain at the critical location determined from the FEM was used for evaluating the fatigue damaged parameter of the natural rubber. Fatigue life of the rubber component are predicted by using the fatigue damage parameter at the critical location. Predicted fatigue lifes of the rubber component agreed fairly well the experimental fatigue lives.
In this present paper, a semi-analytical mesh-free method is employed for the three-dimensional free vibration analysis of a bi-directional functionally graded piezoelectric circular structure. The dependent variables have been expanded by Fourier series with respect to the circumferential direction and have been discretized through radial and axial directions based on the mesh-free shape function. The current approach has a distinct advantage. The nonlinear Green-Lagrange strain is employed as the relationship between strain and displacement fields to observe thermal impacts in stiffness matrices. Nevertheless, high order terms have been neglected at the final steps of equations driving. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously in both radial and axial directions simultaneously in accordance with a power law distribution. The convergence and validation studies are conducted by comparing our proposed solution with available published results to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of our approach. After the validation study, a parametric study is undertaken to investigate the temperature effects, different types of polarization, mechanical and electric boundary conditions and geometry parameters of structures on the natural frequencies of functionally graded piezoelectric circular structures.

Nanocomposites were prepared through the compounding of rubber and clay. Measurements of the static and dynamic mechanical properties of different compositions over a temperature range $70-100^{\circ}C$ showed that the mechanical properties of these rubber/clay nanocomposites are superior to those of existing rubber materials. In this study, by using the parameter of the maximum Green.Lagrange strain appearing at certain locations, the relationship between fatigue life and maximum Green.Lagrange strain, and the correlations between test-piece tests and bench tests of actual rubber components are proved. In order to predict the fatigue life of rubber components at the design stage, a simple procedure of life prediction is suggested. The predicted fatigue lives of the rubber engine mounts agree fairly well with the fatigue lives determined experimentally.

A coupled variational equation for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems is derived from a steady state Navier-Stokes equation for incompressible Newtonian fluid and an equilibrium equation for geometrically nonlinear structures. For a fully coupled FSI formulation, between fluid and structures, a traction continuity condition is considered at interfaces where a no-slip condition is imposed. Under total Lagrange formulation in the structural domain, finite rotations are well described by using the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress and Green-Lagrange strain tensors. An adjoint shape design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method based on material derivative approach is applied to the FSI problem to develop a shape design optimization method. Demonstrating some numerical examples, the accuracy and efficiency of the developed DSA method is verified in comparison with finite difference sensitivity. Also, for the FSI problems, a shape design optimization is performed to obtain a maximal stiffness structure satisfying an allowable volume constraint.
In this paper the geometrically nonlinear continuum plate finite element model, hitherto not reported in the literature, is developed using the total Lagrange formulation. With the layerwise displacement field of Reddy, nonlinear Green-Lagrange small strain large displacements relations (in the von Karman sense) and linear elastic orthotropic material properties for each lamina, the 3D elasticity equations are reduced to 2D problem and the nonlinear equilibrium integral form is obtained. By performing the linearization on nonlinear integral form and then the discretization on linearized integral form, tangent stiffness matrix is obtained with less manipulation and in more consistent form, compared to the one obtained using laminated element approach. Symmetric tangent stiffness matrixes, together with internal force vector are then utilized in Newton Raphson's method for the numerical solution of nonlinear incremental finite element equilibrium equations. Despite of its complex layer dependent numerical nature, the present model has no shear locking problems, compared to ESL (Equivalent Single Layer) models, or aspect ratio problems, as the 3D finite element may have when analyzing thin plate behavior. The originally coded MATLAB computer program for the finite element solution is used to verify the accuracy of the numerical model, by calculating nonlinear response of plates with different mechanical properties, which are isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic (cross ply and angle ply), different plate thickness, different boundary conditions and different load direction (unloading/loading). The obtained results are compared with available results from the literature and the linear solutions from the author's previous papers.
The thermal transport coefficients-the self-diffusion coefficient, shear viscosity, and thermal conductivity-of liquid argon at 94.4 K and 1 atm are calculated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations of a Lennard-Jones potential and compared with those obtained from Green-Kubo relations using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations and with experimental data. The time-correlation functions-the velocity, pressure, and heat flux auto-correlation functions-of liquid argon obtained from the EMD simulations show well-behaved smooth curves which are not oscillating and decaying fast around 1.5 ps. The calculated self-diffusion coefficient from our NEMD simulation is found to be approximately 40% higher than the experimental result. The Lagrange extrapolated shear viscosity is in good agreement with the experimental result and the asymptotic formula of the calculated shear viscosities seems to be an exponential form rather than the square-root form predicted by other NEMD studies of shear viscosity. The agreement for thermal conductivity between the simulation results (NEMD and EMD) and the experimental result is within statistical error. In conclusion, through our NEMD and EMD simulations, the overall agreement is quite good, which means that the Green-Kubo relations and the NEMD algorithms of thermal transport coefficients for simple liquids are valid.
The effect of the initial imperfections on the nonlinear behaviors and ultimate strength of the thin-walled members subjected to the axial loads, obtained by the finite element stability analysis, are examined. As the initial imperfections, the bucking mode shapes of the members are adopted. The buckling mode shapes of the thin-walled members are obtained by the transfer matrix method. In the finite element stability analysis, isoparametric degenerated shell element is used, and the geometrical and material nonlinearity are considered based on the Green Lagrange strain definition and the Prandtl-Reuss stress-strain relation following the von Mises yield criterion. The U-, box- and I-section members subjected to the axial loads are adopted for numerical examples, and the effects of the initial imperfections on the nonlinear behaviors and ultimate strength of the members are examined.

For the post-buckling and elasto-plastic analysis of shell structures, the total Lagrangian formulation is presented based upon the degenerated shell element. Geometrically correct formulation is developed by updating the direction of normal vectors in the iteration process and evaluating the total Green-Lagrange stain corresponding U total displacements. In the calculation of the stiffness matrix, the element formulation takes into account the effect of finite rotation increments by retaining second order rotation terms in the incremental displacement field. The selective or reduced integration scheme using the heterosis element is applied in order to overcome both shear locking phenomena and the zero energy mode. The load/displacement incremental scheme is adopted for geometric non-linear F .E. analysis. Based on such methodology, the computer program is developed and numerical examples to demonstrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed shell element are presented and compared with references's results.
