  • Metabolic bone disease was diagnosed in 2 green iguanas hospitalized in Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Treatments were focused on initially correcting of husbandry with attention being paid to diet, increasing UV exposure time and increasing temperature of aquarium. Calcium complex was injected intramuscularly one time and administered calcium powder orally. Treatments responses were good with recovering body condition and increasing plasma Ca level.

A study on the HPHT-processed NOUV diamonds by means of their gemological and spectroscopic properties

  • This study has been carried out with the eight HPHT processed NOUV diamonds - two yellow, two yellowish green, two green and two orangy yellow color stones. The gemological properties of these diamonds included a highly saturated body color, graphitized fractures around the girdles, tension cracks around crystalline inclusions, long-wave UV with medium yellowish green to a very strong yellowish green luminescence, and short-wave UV with faint yellowish green to a strong yellowish green luminescence. Distinctive features of spectroscopic properties include absorption peaks at 415 nm and 503 nm a strong absorption band at $460{\sim}480nm$ and a H2 center at 986nm. Infrared spectra showed an absorption peak at $1344cm^{-1}$ (C center), which is the characteristics related to single substitutional nitrogen.

지역기후특성을 고려한 비닐온실에 관한연구 (Study on the palstic green houses depending on regional weather conditions)

  • Most Plastic Green Houses in Korea are made according the European weather condition, which lead to have very low solar energy efficiency. Moreover, the function of green houses, as well as the structure of them, has not changed for Korean weather condition. Therefore, the structure and function of them should adopt the regional weather condition in order to improve the energy efficiency. This paper investigates the current plastic green housesin Korea, and presents an alternative for improving the energy efficiency. The elements of green houses were investigated. When using a partial opaque insulation with a thermal storage body, the difference of indoor air temperature became 20C during daytime, and 5C during night, which will save massive fossil fuels.

  • The improved Green integral equation for the calculation of time-harmonic potentials in the radiation diffraction problem about a freely floating body in the presence of moderate or weak current is presented. The forward-speed Green function presented by Brard is used. The correct free surface boundary conditions on the physical free surface are employed as well as an appropriate boundary conditions on the non-physical inner free surface. The default in the existing Green integral equation as well as in the source integral equation is discussed in detail.

과체중 여성에서 생커피두 엑기스의 섭취가 체지방 개선에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Green Coffee Bean Extract Supplementation on Body Fat Reduction in Overweight/Obese Women)

  • 본 연구는 체질량지수가 $23\;kg/m^2$ 이상 또는 체지방률이 27% 이상인 과체중 혹은 비만인 여성을 대상으로 무작위 배정, 이중 맹검, 위약-대조 연구 디자인을 통해 8주간의 생커피두 엑기스 섭취가 체지방 개선에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 실시되었다. 시험군 또는 대조군으로 배정된 대상자는 시험제제 또는 placebo제제를 하루 2번 2캡슐씩 식전에 물과 함께 섭취하게 하였으며, 연구에 참여하는 동안 평상시 식습관 및 커피 섭취량을 그대로 유지하도록 하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 시험제제에는 1캡슐 당 생커피두 엑기스 50 mg와 덱스트린 150 mg을 함유하였고, placebo제제에는 200 mg의 덱스트린을 함유하였다. 생커피두 엑기스에는 28.4%의 클로로겐산과, 49.3%의 클로로겐산 류 (ferulic acid, coumalic acid, neochlorogenic acid 등), 그리고 12.6%의 카페인을 함유하도록 하였다. 총 48명이 시험을 완료하였으며, 이 중 섭취율 미달로 유효성 평가가 불가능한 5명을 제외한 43명을 대상으로 결과분석을 실시하였으며, 시험군 23명 대조군 20명이었다. 컴퓨터 단층촬영을 통한 복부지방면적 측정결과, 상복부에서는 생커피두 엑기스 섭취군에서 총 지방 면적은 섭취 전 $231.2\;{\pm}\;12.2\;cm^2$에서 8주 후 $220.1\;{\pm}\;11.2\;cm^2$으로 4.8%가 유의적으로 감소하였고 (p < 0.05), 내장지방 면적은 섭취 전 $86.4\;{\pm}\;6.08\;cm^2$에서 8주 후 $82.4\;{\pm}\;5.84\;cm^2$으로 4.6%가 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다 (p = 0.062). 하복부에서는 생커피두 엑기스 섭취군에서 내장지방 면적은 섭취 전 $71.8\;{\pm}\;4.81\;cm^2$에서 8주 후 $68.4\;{\pm}\;4.72\;cm^2$으로 4.7%가 유의적으로 감소하였다 (p<0.05). 또한 상복부의 총 지방 면적 (p < 0.05)과 내장지방 면적 (p < 0.05)의 변화량은 군간 비교에서도 유의하였다. 본 연구 결과 생커피두 엑기스를 섭취하는 기간 동안 식사 섭취량 조절 없이 평상시 식습관을 유지하였음에도 불구하고 복부 내장지방의 유의적인 감소로 체지방 분포의 개선 효과를 보여주었다. 따라서 생커피두 엑기스의 섭취와 병행하여 식사조절과 운동이 실시 될 경우 체지방 감소에 더욱 효과적일 것으로 사료되며, 추후 대상자 수의 확대 및 복용기간의 연장 등을 통한 생커피두 엑기스의 체지방 분포 개선 효과 및 대사 관련 지표 개선을 평가하는 후속 연구도 필요할 것이다.

Effect of Partial Replacement of Green Grass by Urea Treated Rice Straw in Winter on Milk Production of Crossbred Lactating Cows

  • Fresh elephant grass was replaced by urea treated rice straw (UTRS) to evaluate the effects on milk production of crossed lactating cows. A total of 16 crossbred F1 cows (Holstein Friesian ${\times}$ Vietnamese Local Yellow), with a body weight of about 400 kg and lactation number from three to five, were used in the experiment. The experimental cows were blocked according to the milk yield of the previous eight weeks and divided into 4 homogenous groups. The experiment was conducted with a Latin Square design with 4 treatments and 4 periods. Each period was 4 weeks, with 2 weeks of feed adaptation and 2 weeks for data collection. The ratio of concentrate to roughage in the ration was 50:50. All cows were given constant amounts of elephant grass dry matter (DM), with ratios of 100% grass without UTRS (control treatment 100G), and 75% grass (75G), 50% grass (50G) and 25% grass (25G) with ad libitum UTRS. Daily total DM intake on 100G, 75G, 50G and 25G was 12.04, 12.31, 12.32 and 11.85 kg, and the daily ME intake was 121.6, 121.5, 119.4 and 114.3 MJ, respectively. The daily CP intake was similar for all treatments (1.85-1.91 kg). There was a difference (p<0.05) in daily milk yield between the 25G and the 100G and 75G (11.7 vs. 12.6 and 12.5 kg, respectively). Milk protein concentration was similar for all treatments, while a tendency to increased milk fat concentration following the increase of UTRS ratio was observed. The cows gained 4-5 kg body weight per month and showed first oestrus 3-4 months after calving. The overall feed conversion for milk production was not affected by ratio of UTRS in the ration. It is concluded that replacement of green grass by UTRS with a ratio of 50:50 for crossbred lactating cows is as good as feeding 100% green grass in terms of milk yield, body weight gain and feed conversion. UTRS can preferably replace green grass in daily rations for crossbred dairy cows in winter to cope with the shortage of green grass, with the ratio 1:1.

LED 광원이 느티만가닥버섯 균의 균사 생장과 자실체 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effect of LED LightIrradiation on the Mycelial Growth and Fruit Body Development of Hypsizygus Marmoreus)

  • LED 광원이 느티만가닥버섯 재배에 미치는 영향을 알기 위하여 6종의 파장이 다른 NUV(wave length 405nm), blue(wave length 460nm), green(wave length 530nm), yellow(wave length 590 nm), red(wave length 630nm), white(wave length 6500K) 광을 조사하면서 균사 생장 및 자실체 생육과 수량을 조사하였다. 1. 느티만가닥버섯균의 균사 생장에는 광이 필요하지 않지만, red 광 처리구에서 암조건과 비슷한 균사 생장을 보였다. 그러나 blue, green, yellow 광 처리구에서는 암배양보다 약 30~40%의 균사 생장 저해를 보였다. 2. LED 광이 느티만가닥버섯의 자실체 생육에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과, 암조건에서는 자실체 발달이 안 되는 경우도 있으므로, 느티만가닥버섯의 자실체 생육에는 광 조사가 꼭 필요하다. 단파장인 blue와 green광, 복합광인 white을 조사한 처리구에서 자실체 갓과 대 발달이 안정적이면서 수량이 우수하였다. 장파장인 red 와 yellow 광 처리구에서는 갓 발달과 색택이 불량하고, 대는 길고 꼬임 등의 기형을 보였다. 3. 단일광 조사만으로는 우수한 품질의 버섯을 안정적으로 생산하기 어렵고, 각 생육 단계마다 효과가 있는 광을 조사하는 것도 어렵다. blue와 green, white, red 광을 조합하여 생육 기간 동안 혼합광을 조사하여 갓과 대의 균일성 및 갓 색택, 수량을 분석한 결과, 가장 이상적인 LED 광 조합은 blue와 white 광이었다.

The Hypocholesterolemic Effect of Green Tea EGCG Was Not Mediated Via the Stimulation of the Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor Gene Expression in Cholesterol-Fed Rats

  • Green tea, which has high polyphenols amount, is thought to have hypocholesterolemic effects. The present study was performed to further examine the hypocholesterolemic action of green tea, especially (-) epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) for its effect on diet-induced hypercholesterolemia in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=15) were fed a green tea-free diet (control), $1.0\%$ green tea catechin (catechin) or $0.5\%$ green tea catechin EGCG for seven weeks. Hypercholesterolemia was induced by adding $1\%$ cholesterol and $0.5\%$ cholic acid to all diets. There was no difference in food intake and body weight gain among the groups. The green tea EGCG treatment led to a significant improvement in plasma levels of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol and high density lipoprotein (HDL)/LDL ratio (p<0.05). There was no significant effect on the plasma HDL-cholesterol level. The catechin treatment led to a 4.19-fold increase in the LDL-receptor mRNA level compared to the control, but the EGCG treatment did not affect the hepatic LDL-receptor mRNA level. Our results suggest that when blood cholesterol level is down-regulated by green tea EGCG, the LDL receptor gene-independent pathway may dominate the hypocholesterolemic action of EGCG.

뇌 조직에서 알코올 투여에 대한 녹차 건분의 항산화 효과 (Antioxidative Effects of Green Tea Powder Diet Against Ethanol-Induced Oxidative Damage in Rat Brain Regions)

  • The present study investigated the protective effects of green tea against acute ethanol-induced lipid peroxidation and the change of antioxidative enzyme activities in various regions of rat brain : cortex, cerebellum, striatum and hippocampus. The following parameters were examined : malondialdehyde(MDA) levels and activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px). Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given the experimental containing 1% green tea powder or control diet for 4 weeks, and at the end of feeding diet group received acute ethanol(5g/kg body weight) or equicaloric sucrose solution intragastrically. Green tea powder significantly decreased MDA levels in the striatum compared to control-non alcohol treated group to 1% green tea-non alcohol treated group without altering the antioxidative enzyme activities. Green tea resulted in a significant increase in GSH-Px activities in the hippocampus compared to either control-non alcohol treated group(0.043units/mg protein) or 1% green tea-non alcohol treated group(0.071units/mg protein). In conclusion, these results suggest that moderate consumption of green tea leaves can exert protective effects against ethanol-induced oxidative stress in brain regions, by reducing MDA concentrations in the striatum and enhancing GSH-Px activities in the hippocampus. 볼락(Sebastes inermis)치어의 성장에 미치는 LED 광파장의 영향 (The effect of LED light wavelength on the growth of fingerling Sebastes inermis)

  • Experiments designed to measure the effect of LED (light-emitting diode) light wavelength on the growth of fingerling rockfishes (Sebastes inermis) were conducted. Fingerling rockfishes (average body weight of individual: 1.13g) were divided into two groups by wavelength of the LED light [light power: 1,620 mW; wavelength: 518 nm (green color), 622 nm (red color)]. Triplicate groups of 180 individuals were reared over 7 weeks. Lighting duration was 14 hours from 06:00 to 20:00. A water tank exposed on the natural light in a room through the windows was used as a control. At results of the first experiment [initial average body weight (BW) of individual: 1.13 g; standard deviation (SD): 0.13 g], the final individual BW exposed on the green color was increased 0.39 g than the red color, and decreased 0.12 g than the natural light in the room. At results of the second (initial individual BW: 5.07 g; SD: 0.70 g) and the third experiment (initial individual BW: 10.67 g; SD: 0.67 g), the final individual BW exposed on the green color was increased 1.07 g and 2.55 g than the red color, respectively, and increased 0.57 g and 0.84 g than the natural light, respectively. The relative growth rate of the green color was higher about 8% significantly (p<0.05) than the natural light. In the case of the red color the relative growth rate was lower significantly (p<0.05) than the natural light.
