  • The purpose of this study is to analyze green growth issues such as employment, education and training, social capital and nature's standing right from the complementary perspective between natural environment conservation and economic growth. Green growth can be defined as a growth which lowers an increasing rate of entropy and at the same time improves our living standard. Green growth paradigm requires a quite amount of understanding the laws of thermodynamics and the uncertainty principle as the highest orders which regulate our overall socio-economic behaviors. They suggest that socio-economic growth is a mere transformation process of natural energy from one form to another and they increases natural manmade entropy over time. The most important issue of green growth policy may be a problem concerning employment and/or unemployment since green growth may induce inevitable movement of resources from the existing industries to the green sector. In particular, green industries will demand more highly specialized manpower than the existing ones. Without a well-designed new training education system and social capital accumulation toward environmental concerns, green growth may accompany a substantial amount of structural involuntary frictional unemployment. This may increase not only wealth-distribution disparity but also political instability. In order to achieve harmonious green growth, we should recognize that there are important complementary relationships between green and growth. Our society should also be able to innovate the existing educational system to accumulate social capital, to create a new sharing system, and to admit nature's standing right. Although the 2003 lawsuit case of Korean Salamander in Cheonseong Mountain went against plaintiff, it would provide apparently our society with a way of green development ahead.

  • The urban park provides a safe rest and leisure area, and offers the beauty of nature to counter the drearyness of urban space. It can provide benefits such as the reduction of environmental pollution, the regulation of the local climate, and it can also provide a safe area during times of disaster. However, there was no interest in urban park development and control in Korea during the economic boom of the mid 1960s. Furthermore, during the industrialization process, the population grew significantly in the cities and the cities' scales were noticeably extended; as a result of this, the living environment and the natural environment in the cities worsened. With rapid urbanization and industrialization, urban green area diminished, and it became necessary to organize the urban park system to improve quality of life. 45% of south korea's population lives in 6 cities, which is only 4% of Korea's land size. The Urban park system has to be considered in the urban planning process. Paris' urban green system can be a role-model for Korea's urban green development plan to function organically. Urban public park concepts have been used in Paris's urban planning since 1850. There were hardly any parks, gardens and squares for the public before the middle of the 19th century. For improving life-styles for the poor, Napoleon III strongly supported the development of green space systems in Paris by G.E. Haussmann. Napoleon III and Haussmann established and applied the urban green regulation within Paris urban planning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the green regulations Haussmann's Paris urban plan and urban green space system: and as a result of this, it can be an indicator for urban green space development in Korea.

  • In respond to the global energy crisis and climate change, there have been many ongoing national efforts to develop a sustainable housing prototype followed by "2 million Green Home Project" in Korea. More than 50% of nation's population are currently living in apartment housing thus the country is seriously in need of developing green apartment prototype. In this research, we focused on energy-conservative green apartment design prototype that have both passive components and active systems explored in a systemic design approach. After selecting an existing basic apartment unit, we analyzed and compared statistical data with the simulated annual energy consumption to match these two data sets for validating simulation accuracy performed with TRNSYS package. We performed energy simulations with different passive design factors such as varied insulation thickness, window types and infiltration rates as well as the active design factors including boilers and lighting fixtures to analyze their impacts on the energy performance of the housing unit using TRNSYS software. As a result, we acquired significant energy reduction effect with explored design strategies but the life cycle cost analysis for the final design guidline would need to be performed. In this study, we focused on a systematic comparative energy analysis based on TRNSYS that can improve the design of a green apartment housing.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the perspectives of Green Growth and Healthy Families, and to suggest an expansive paradigm for the study on Healthy Families in the context of Home Economics. From the perspective of Green Growth, the sustainability for future generations, the ecological value, and the foundation of the community network were searched as the key points. So, from the key points, and in the context of Healthy Families, two strategies were suggested: First, the care services in the Center for Healthy Families have to be extended to give more opportunities to the users and the various demands for the care services can be satisfied. Secondly, the exchange of services has to be more activate in the local community so that our society itself can become a completely family-friendly society. Moreover, this study suggested a mission of Home Economics, that the study for family policy, the development of related programs, and the education of professionals for the Center for Healthy Families can be more connected with the perspectives of Green Growth, especially the focus on family, its ecological living patterns and the detailed attitudes needed to balance between industry, the economy, and family in the context of Green Growth.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the preferences and utilization of green tea and its products for adults living in Chonbuk area. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 388 (117 male, 271 female) subjects. who were classified into 5 groups by age. Data were analysed by chi-square and ANOVA. The results can be summarized as follows. On the investigation of preferences, there was a significant difference between and among the age groups(p<.001). More than 20% of the subjects in the $20{\sim}29$ years group preferred coffee and juice. A half of the elderly over 60 years preferred a kind of green tea. The frequency of green tea drinking was not significantly influenced by age. Drinking green tea less than once a day was replied by 59.0% of the subject of whom 44.3% drank the green tea at home. and 42.0% got information about green tea from TV or radio. Regarding the satisfaction with products using green tea, 62.6% of the subjects responded only 'mediocre.' The brown rice-green tea was marked to be the highest in terms of recognition among all kinds of products. The green tea-related products were rated higher by the elder group. In conclusion, future research should focus on the development of green tea and its products in accordance with the consumption pattern in each age group.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the utilization of cut pear branches for dyeing materials, and the dyeability of pear flowers for pressed flowers using red, orange, and green edible pigments. There was a significant difference of E values among 0.1, 0.5 and $1.0{\%}$ diluted solutions of edible pigments for the cut pear branches coming into flowers. In the higher concentrations of dyeing solutions and the longer dyeing periods, a values with the red pigments increased from 2.37 to 31.22, b values with the orange pigments increased from 7.04 to 45.85, and a - values with the green pigments increased from -3.88 to -36. Bloomed pear branches were immersed in diluted solutions with red, orange and green pigments for forty five minutes. Pear branches immersed in $0.1{\%}$ and $0.5{\%}$ diluted solutions bloomed normally, and each of the flowers were dyed in the colors of the dyeing solutions, respectively. The dyeability of the bloomed pear branches immersed in water and dyeing solutions for one hundred and twenty minutes decreased compared with those treated with red, orange and green pigments and dyed immediately. The dyeability of flowers for the cut pear branches dyed immediately after cutting was significantly increased compared with that immersed in water and dyeing solutions.

  • People are making multilateral efforts to create beautiful agricultural landscapes. In farming villages, however, large-scale facilities or houses do not blend in with the natural environment because of their outer colors, which are mostly primary colors that are not chosen in consideration of the natural environment. This was addressed in the three following steps: 1) Research tool was used to identify predominant colors and images that represent various types of rural areas; 2) landscape experts conducted a feasibility study and pilot study on using these colors; and 3) the main study was done by investigating how local people and out-of-town visitors perceive the colors. The villages involved in the development projects were mostly represented by achromatic colors, meaning white, black, and variations of gray. Also, adjectives such as "modern" were shown to be keywords that symbolize the atmosphere. Less developed villages had more greenish colors and "natural" as their keyword. Developed villages in suburban areas were mainly represented by shades of blue and green, while less developed ones were mainly represented by green and yellow. In special types of rural areas, developed and developing were represented by achromatic and green colors, whereas less developed ones were represented by green and blue. Respondents were also asked 1) whether they were satisfied with their village's current overall color scheme and 2) whether they thought there was harmony between the surrounding natural environment and artificial structures. People responded with "so so" for the first question, while some answered "not good enough" and "no" for the second.
