A Study on the Improvement of the Green Building Certification Criteria for Detached Houses - Focusing on Comparisons of LEED for Homes - (소형주택의 친환경건축물 인증기준 개선방향에 관한 연구 -LEED for Homes와의 비교를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to generate implications for the Green Building Certification System(GBCS) for detached houses, by comparing LEED for homes. Detached houses were added to the GBCS and took an effect this year. They are evaluated by the GBCS under special conditions, because they are designed by small architectural offices with limited budget. In this respect, this paper points out the problems of the GBCS for these detached houses and highlights some areas to be improved. As the first step, the definition of sustainable building and the design method of green building were investigated. By doing so, this study acknowledges the potential analysis methods in making valid comparisons with LEED for homes. Secondly, this study makes a comparative analysis of the GBCS for detached houses and the GBCS for apartment houses, LEED for New Construction(NC) and LEED for houses. Lastly, it identifies the problems and suggests better ways to improve the GBCS for detached houses through integrated analysis of the GBCS and LEED.

  • The green building certification criteria in detached houses in 2012 and it included in the green building certification subject. However, the green building certification result of the detached houses is slight after revising of the system. Therefore, in this research, we were performed the importance analysis for the green building certification assessment of the detached houses. The results of this study will contribute to the green building certification work.

Evaluation of Priorities for Greening of Vacant Houses using Connectivity Modeling (연결성 모델링을 활용한 빈집 녹지화 우선순위 평가)

  • Urban problems are constantly occurring around the world due to rapid industrialization and population decline. In particular, as the number of vacant houses is gradually increasing as the population decreases, it is necessary to prepare countermeasures. A plan to utilize vacant houses has emerged to restore the natural environment of the urban ecosystem where forest destruction, damage to habitats of wild animals and plants, and disconnection have occurred due to large-scale development. Through connectivity analysis, it is possible to understand the overall ecosystem flow based on the movement of species and predict the effect when vacant houses are converted into green spaces. Therefore, this study analyzed the green area network to confirm the possibility of greening of vacant houses neglected in Jeonju based on circuit theory. Using Circuitscape and Least-cost path, we tried to identify the connectivity of green areas and propose an ecological axis based on the analysis. In order to apply the resistance values required for analysis based on previous studies, the 2020 subdivision land cover data were integrated into the major classification evaluation items. When the eight forests in the target site were analyzed as the standard, the overall connectivity and connectivity between forests in the area were high, so it is judged that the existing green areas can perform various functions, such as species movement and provision of habitats. Based on the results of the connectivity analysis, the importance of vacant houses was calculated and the top 20 vacant houses were identified, and it was confirmed that the higher the ranking, the more positive the degree of landscape connectivity was when converted to green areas. In addition, it was confirmed that the results of analyzing the least-cost path based on the resistance values such as connectivity analysis and the existing conceptual map showed some differences when comparing the ecological axes in the form. As a result of checking the vacant houses corresponding to the relevant axis based on the width standards of the main and sub-green areas, a total of 30 vacant houses were included in the 200m width and 6 vacant houses in the 80m width. It is judged that the conversion of vacant houses to green space can contribute to biodiversity conservation as well as connectivity between habitats of species as it is coupled with improved green space connectivity. In addition, it is expected to help solve the problem of vacant houses in the future by showing the possibility of using vacant houses.

  • Most Plastic Green Houses in Korea are made according the European weather condition, which lead to have very low solar energy efficiency. Moreover, the function of green houses, as well as the structure of them, has not changed for Korean weather condition. Therefore, the structure and function of them should adopt the regional weather condition in order to improve the energy efficiency. This paper investigates the current plastic green housesin Korea, and presents an alternative for improving the energy efficiency. The elements of green houses were investigated. When using a partial opaque insulation with a thermal storage body, the difference of indoor air temperature became 20C during daytime, and 5C during night, which will save massive fossil fuels.

A Study on Green Remodeling Methods of Apartment Houses (공동주택의 환경친화적 리모델링 계획 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to propose Green Remodelling methods of apartment houses in Korea. Through the literature review and case studies various 'Green' Remodelling elements including environmental friendly technologies were identified and classified. Design strategies and remodeling techniques which could increase energy efficiency, reduce water and resource use, improve air qualify, improve landscape management, and improve maintenance were also investigated. Then, 'Green remodelling' methods of apartment houses are proposed as the des19n methodology of remodeling for sustainable development. The green Remodeling design methods and elements proposed by this study are proved to be simple, easy and flexible ways to enhance the environmental sustainability of the existing building.

  • Among the protected horticulture facilities in Korea, 99.2% are pipe-framed green houses and most of them are structurally vulnerable single-span type green houses. This study examined peak external pressure coefficient for the roof surface of a green house group composed of single-span and a multiple-span green houses. According to the results of the experiment, the distribution of peak external pressure coefficient was around 30% higher in the single-span greenhouse than in the multi-span ones. The external pressure coefficient for the roof surface of the vinyl house group was, in all of the three vinyl houses, was around 20%-30% higher than that for single-span greenhouses.

Scale Insects Found in the Green Houses in Korea (온실의 깍지벌레 조사연구)

  • Since Kanda's paper on Korean scale insects in 1942, no work on scale insects has been done in Korea. The author has collected 8 species of scale insects in 5 green houses in Seoul and Suwon, of which 4 species, i.e., Chionaspis kentiae, Chrysomphalus aonidum, Planococcus kraunhiae and Aspidiotus hederae are new to Korea. Dominant species were Planococcus citri and Coccus hesperidum and common species to 4 green houses were Planococcus citri, Coccus hesperidum and Saissitia coffeae.

  • This paper is to clarify a cognitive structure and behaviors of the green environment creation in the Western-Style residential areas. The followings are the results of analysis; 1) Regarding the outside space of houses, yard and garden are differently recognized. While various behaviors are carried out in the yard, the garden is recognized as a space to construct green environment. 2) Most residents of Western-Style houses construct the outside space as a green space, and grow plants and flowers to enjoy their beauties. However they have introvert view of green environment. 3) The roles of outside space use are classified into four groups, the cognitive structures on the green environment creation are different from group to group.

  • The Korean folk house, especially in rural area, has created the comfortable indoor environment with passive control of outdoor climate as environmental architecture. This study aims to identify the peculiar elements of sustainable architecture in folk houses in rural areas of Cheju Island and Ullŭng Island through the field experiments. The elements of environmental control of folk houses in both islands could be developed as the design elements of modern rural architecture. This effort can play major role to find the green design principles and techniques of environmental control of the building which have been neglected in the design of modern architecture.

Investment Analysis of the Modernized Green Houses in Korea (현대화 온실의 투자분석)

  • The number of modernized green houses have been increased to produce high quality and high-payoff farm products. The unit investment costs per pyeong($3.3058m^2$) for building a glass house was estimated at 449 thousand won. On the other hand, the unit prices for the PC house with iron frame and the vynil house with automatic control system were revealed 365 thousand won and 93 thousand won respectively. The main objective of the study was to identify the financial feasibility of the green house investment prevailed in rural area. At present, some farmers have selected the green house without any consideration of profitability of crops and accessiblity of their fanning practices and technology. For the soundness of green house cultivation and management, the indices of finacial efficiency for the modernized green houses were necessary. The decesion making criteria such as NPV(Net Present Value), IRR(Internal Rate of Return), B/C Ratio and Payback Period were analyzed for the individual high investment facilities considering the present farmer's technology and on-farm benefits and costs. The results of the feasibility analysis of green houses were as follows: 1. In case of 100% private burden of the investment costs, NPV revealed only positive value for the vinyl house with automatic system and IRR for the house was also estimated at more than 10% and B/C Ratio was amounted to more than 1.0. On the other hand, the other glass and PC houses showed negative NPV and unacceptable B/C ratio and IRR. 2. In case of the following terms and conditions as 50% Government subsidy, 20% loans and 30% farmers burden of the total investment cost, all the green houses showed acceptable IRR, B/C Ratio and NPV. 3. The financial feasibility of the glass house was acceptable in tomato cultivation rather than in cucumber cultivation. The payback periods of cucumber were represented as 8.9 years for glass house, 8.5 years for PC house and 4.1 years for vinyl house with automatic system respectively. In conclution, the glass and PC house cultivation of high value vegetables were only acceptable under the Goverment subsidy and loan systems from the view point of farmer's financial situations. On account of the unacceptable economic rate of return, the government subsidy and loan policy for glass house cultivation should be transfered to the vinyl and pc houses in the future.
