  • The purpose of this research helps to make full use for perfect performance by grasping the defects of Ropez motion performed by athlete CSM who was under the training for the 28th 2004 Athene Olympic Garnes, and by presenting complementary methods. For the better Ropez motion which had been performed by CSM for the 1st dispatch selection test and the final for the 28th Athene Olympic Game was analyzed with 3-dimensional cinematographic method. Here are the conclusions: 1. During the board contact phase, powerful kicking and rapid forward flexion motion of upper body make increasing vertical velocity of C. O. G and enlarging body angle. 2. It was indicated that rapid forward flexion motion of upper body during the board contact phase get a large body angle in horse take-off. 3. rapid forward flexion motion of upper body during the board contact phase makes a longer time at horse contacting phase. It showed that this result increased velocity of horse take-off causing by powerful blocking motion. 4. Increasing of air-borne height during pre- flight phase, makes a higher C. O. G; and larger angle of hip, angle of knee and body angle in the landing phase. And it revealed that these results have a stable landing.

  • This study proposes a new technique to design and control of robot hand gripper for assembling and disassembling of a machine parts. The motion equation describing dynamics of the manipulators and object together with geometric constraint is formulated by Lagrange-Euler's equation. And the problems of controlling both the grasping force and the rotation angle of the grasped object under the constraints are analyzed. The effect of geometric constraints and a method of computer simulation for overall system is verified. Finally, it is illustrated that even in case of there exists a sensory feedback from sensing data of the rotational angle of the object to command inputs control of joint and this feedback connection from sensing data to control grasping of machinery parts.

  • Robot hands capable of grasping or handling various objects are important for service robots to effectively aid humans. In particular, controlling a contact force and providing a compliant motion are essential when the hand is in contact with objects. Many dexterous robot hands equipped with force/torque sensors have been developed to perform force control, but they suffer from the complexity of control and high cost. In this paper, a low-cost robot hand based on SEA (Series Elastic Actuator), which is composed of compression spring, stretch sensor, and wire, is proposed. The grasping force can be estimated by measuring the compression length of spring, which would allow the hand to perform force control. A series of experimentations are carried out to verify the performance of force control of the proposed robot hand, and it is shown that it can successfully control the contact force without any additional force/torque sensors.

  • Recently, a lot of images containing various global movements have been generated by the activation of the photographic equipment such as the drone and the action cam. In this case, when the motion such as rotation, scaling is generated, it is difficult to expect a high coding efficiency in the conventional inter-picture prediction method using the 2D motion vector. In this paper, we propose a video coding method that reflects global motion through homography reference pictures. As a proposed method, there are 1) a method of generating a new reference picture by grasping a global motion relation between a current picture and a reference picture by homography, and 2) a method of utilizing a homography reference picture for inter-picture prediction. The experiment was applied to the HEVC reference software HM 14.0, and the experimental result showed an increase in encoding efficiency of 6.6% based on RA. Especially, the results using the videos with rotational motion have a maximum coding efficiency of 32.6%, which is expected to show high efficiency in video, which is often represented by complex global motion such as drones.

  • The focus of this paper is the designing a flexible three fingered hand system with 16 D.O.F for dynamic manipulation with an intelligent controller, and to build a useful database for dynamic manipulation based on the experimental results. The weight of the hand module is only 0.7 kg, but flexible motion and powerful grasping are possible. To achieve such a dynamic motion in a robotic hand, we have developed a flexible fingered hand with a control system incorporating image recognition system in which we deal with the problems of not only accuracy and range of motion but also the flexibility of hand. The fingers are arranged so as to grasp both circular and prismatic objects. In order to achieve the light mechanism, we reduced the number of joints and fingers as much as possible. We used three fingers, which is the minimum number to achieve a stable grasp.

  • In this study, we propose an object identification method for bin-picking developed for industrial robots. We identify the grasp posture and the associated geometric parameters of grasp objects using the joint data of a robotic gripper. Prior to grasp identification, we analyze the grasping motion in a low-dimensional space using principle component analysis (PCA) to reduce the dimensions. We collected the joint data from a human hand to demonstrate the grasp-identification algorithm. For data acquisition of the human grasp data, we conducted additional research on the motion characteristics of a human hand. We explain the method for using the algorithm of grasp identification for bin-picking. Finally, we present a subject for future research using our proposed algorithm of grasp model and identification.

  • The grasping motion of a person's hand for a simplified degree of freedom was modeled by using the photographic motion measured by a high-speed camera. The mathematical expression of distal interphalangeal (DIP) motion was developed by using relation models of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) motions to reduce the degree of freedom. The mathematical expression for humanoid-hand operation obtained using a learning algorithm with a neural network and using a kernel regression model were compared. A feasible model of hand operation was obtained on the basis of comparative data analysis by using the kernel regression model.

  • Ship autonomous navigation is designated as what computerizes mental faculties possessed of navigation experts, which are building navigation plans, grasping the situation, forecasting the fluctuation, and coping with the situation. An autonomous navigation system, which consists of several subsystems such as navigation system, a collision avoidance system, several data fusion systems, and a motion control system, is based on an intelligent control architecture for the sake of integrating the systems. The motion control system, which is one of the most essential system in autonomous navigation system, controls its propulsion and steering gears to move the ship satisfying its hydrodynamic characteristics. This paper is the study on the ship movement control system and its implementation which are totally developed and run on virtual-world system. Receiving the high-level control values such as a waypoint presented from the collision avoidance system, the motion control system generates them to low-level control values for propulsion and steering devices. In the paper, we develop a ship motion controller using Oldenburger's theory based on mathematical fundamentals, and simulate it with various scenarios in order to verify its performance.

  • The purposes of this study were grasping the degree of students' understanding for course contents through the concept mapping strategy as meaningful learning in science and measuring the effect for change of conception and changing the misconception. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Before the lesson, only 10.7% of students had scientific conception of molecular motion. Other students had various kinds of misconceptions. 2. The extent of concept formation after lesson through the using concept mapping strategy was tested. As a result, compared with the controlled group, the experimental group showed higher extent of sound concept formation (statistical significance level 0.05). 3. The differences between the experimental group and the control group were analyzed into quantitative and qualitative points of view. The results of the comparison showed that the maps of the students were well configured in the categories of the relationship, the hierarchy and the examples; while students showed lower abilities in the category of the cross-links. 4. The student's attitudes to ward concept mapping was positive. Most of the students answered that teaching strategy of concept mapping benefits them in meaningful learning outcomes.
