Heating films were prepared with composites of poly (methyl methacrylate) and conductive graphite. The as-prepared composite was deposited on a PET film and then fabricated using a bar coater to produce a film with uniform thickness. Copper electrodes were attached to both ends of the as-prepared film, and the heating characteristics of the film were analyzed while applying a DC voltage. The electrical conductivity and heating temperature of the heating films depended on the size, structure, content, and the dispersion characteristics of the graphite in the composite. The thermal energy was adjusted by controlling the electrical energy, based on the Joule heating theory. The electrical resistance of the film was altered in proportion to Ohm's law, and the heating temperature was changed according to the structure of the film (interelectrode spacing or electrode length) and the conductive graphite content. When the content of conductive graphite in the film increases, the electrical resistance decreases, and the heating temperature increases; however, there is no significant change above a certain content (50%).

Friction characteristics of phenolic resin-based friction composites containing threedifferent relative amounts of graphite and zirconium silicate were investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Constant temperature test and constant interval test at three different initial temperatures(100. 200, 300$^{\circ}C$) were performed to examine the effects of friction heat on friction characteristics at elevated temperature. The friction composite(FMO.7) with higher content of ZrSiO$_4$showed unstable friction force at higher temperature and resulted in larger fluctuations of vibration during friction test. The abrasive action of ZrSiO$_4$in friction composite impeded stable transfer film and induced higher friction heat at friction interface. Friction oscillations according to the temperature were associated with the formation of transfer film(i'd body layer) on the friction composite and the counter part.
Non metallic composite materials, for example, GECM(graphite epoxy composite material) show high specific strength because of low density. These kinds of non metallic composite materials improved the structural effectiveness and operation economics. However, if these materials contacted several metals, corrosion can be arisen since non metallic composite materials have electrical conductivity. This paper dealt with galvanic corrosion between graphite epoxy composite material and several metals. Base on the electrochemical galvanic corrosion test between GECM and metals, corrosion current of carbon steel and aluminium increased with time but corrosion current of stainless steels and titanium decreased and galvanic potential increased. This behavior shows the galvanic corrosion depends upon the presence of passive film. Also, galvanic effect of GECM coupled with ferrous alloys and non-ferrous alloys was lower than that of 100% graphite, which is attributed to lower exposed area of graphite fiber in the GECM than apparent area of the GECM specimen used for the calculation of galvanic current in this work.

Thermal dissipation was investigated for poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) composite films containing graphite and multi wall carbon nanotube(CNT) powders as filler materials. After mixing PMMA with fillers, solvent, and dispersant, the pastes were prepared by passing through a three roll mill for three times. The prepared pastes were coated $15{\sim}40{\mu}m$ thick on a side of 0.4 mm thick aluminium alloy plate and dried for 30 min at $150^{\circ}C$ in an oven. The content of fillers in dried films was varied as 1, 2, and 5 weight % maintaining the ratio of graphite and CNT as 1:1. Raman spectra from three different samples exhibited D, G and 2D peaks, as commonly observed in graphite and multi wall CNT. Among those peaks, D peak was prominent, which manifested the presence of defects in carbon materials. Thermal emissivity values of three samples were measured as 0.916, 0.934, and 0.930 with increasing filler content, which were the highest ever reported for the similar composite films. The thermal conductivities of three films were measured as 0.461, 0.523, and $0.852W/m{\cdot}K$, respectively. After placing bare Al plate and film coated samples over an opening of a polystyrene box maintained for 1 h at $92^{\circ}C$, the temperatures inside and outside of the box were measured. Outside temperatures were lower by $5.4^{\circ}C$ in the case of film coated plates than the bare one, and inside temperatures of the former were lower by $3.6^{\circ}C$ than the latter. It can be interpreted that the PMMA composite film coated Al plates dissipate heat quicker than the bare Al plate.

Recently, electronic components are becoming smaller and highly integrated. As a result, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heat generation problems must be solved simultaneously with a small area and thickness. Graphene composites and graphite composites are lightweight materials that can simultaneously solve EMI shielding and heat dissipation problems with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. With the recent development of synthetic technology and composite manufacturing technology, the research to application of their composites is increasing. In this paper, we reviewed the latest researches on composite films of graphene and graphite for EMI shielding and heat dissipation.
Friction and Wear behavior of continuous graphite fiber composites was studied for different fiber orientations against the sliding direction. The effect of fiber orientation on friction and wear of the composite and on the deformation of the counterface was investigated experimentally. Pin on disk type testing machine was built and employed to generate the friction and wear data. A graphite fiber composite plate was produced by the bleeder ply molding in an autoclave and machined into rectangular pin specimens with specific fiber orientations, i.e., normal, transverse, and longitudinal directions. Three different wear conditions were employed for two different periods of time, 24 and 48 hours. The wear track of the worn specimens and the metal counterface was examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to observe the damaged fibers on the surface and wear film generation on the counterface. Wear mechanism of the composite during sliding wear is proposed based on the experimental results.

Polyvinylidene di-fluoride (PVDF) film sensor appeared to be practically useful for the structural health monitoring of composite materials and structures. PVDF film sensors were either attached to or embedded in the graphite/epoxy composite (CFRP) samples to detect the fatigue damage at the bondline of single-lap joints or the tensile failure of unidirectional laminates. PVDF sensors were sensitive enough to detect and determine the crack front in linear location since composites usually produce very energetic acoustic emission (AE). PVDF sensors are extremely cost-effective, as flexible as other plastic films, in low profile as thin as a few tens of microns, and have relatively wide-band response, all of which characteristics are readily utilized for the structural health monitoring of composite structures. Signals due to fatigue damage showed a characteristics of mode II (shear) type failure whereas those from fiber breakage at DEN notches showed that of mode I (tensile) type fracture.
It is widely recognized that it is hard to prepare hydrophilic graphite nanoparticles because of their high crystallinity and inert characteristics. In this study, we successfully synthesized the hydrophilic graphite nanoparticles by using liquid phase pulsed laser ablation method which has been actively employed for the thin film deposition up to now. The obtained hydrophilic graphite showed an ultra-high dispersion stability in water, because the hydrophilic functional groups like carboxyl and carbonyl group was simultaneously introduced onto the graphite surface with the nanoparticle formation, as confirmed by FT-IR and zeta potential measurements. Finally, a markedly enhanced gas sensing ability for acetone was shown in comparison with the conventional carbon black for the carbon polymer composite sensor with polyethyleneglycol (PEG).
This paper deals with a fabrication method of composite hinge mechanisms for flapping-wing micro air vehicles. The fabrication process includes curing process of Graphite/Epoxyprepregs, laser cutting for high fabrication repeatability, laminating of Graphite/Epoxy prepregs with Kapton film which is used for flexure, and so on. The fabricated hinge mechanism was attached with PUMPS actuators and the measured flapping angle was $173^{\circ}$ when driving voltage was 300V 170Hz.

In this study, the various process conditions for high-power DC Magnetron Sputtering (DCMS) on the surface roughness of carbon thin films were investigated. The optimal conditions for Si/C coating were 40min for deposition time, which does not deviate from normal plasma, to obtain the maximum deposition rate, and the conditions for the best surface roughness were -16volt bias voltage and 400watt DC power with 1.3x10-3torr chamber pressure. Under these optimal conditions, an excellent carbon thin film with a surface roughness of 1.62nm and a thickness of 724nm was obtained. As a result of XPS analysis, it was confirmed that the GLC structure (sp2 bonding) was more dominant than the DLC structure (sp3 bonding) in the thin film structure of the carbon composite layer formed by DC sputtering. Except in infrequent cases of relatively plasma instability, the lower bias voltage and applied power induces smaller surface roughness value due to the cooling effect and particle densification. For the optimal conditions for Graphite/C composite layer coating, a roughness of 36.3 nm and a thickness of 711 nm was obtained under the same conditions of the optimal process conditions for Si/C coating. This layer showed a immensely low roughness value compared to the roughness of bare graphite of 242 nm which verifies that carbon coating using DC sputtering is highly effective in modifying the surface of graphite molds for glass forming.
