  • PIV(Particle image velocimetry) presents the flow velocity of whole flow fields in a fraction of a second. Conventional PIV method uses two optical axis configuration during the image grabbing process. That is, the illumination plane and the recording plane must be parallel. This configuration is very natural to grab the whole field without the image distortion. In the real problem, it is often to meet the situation which this configuration is hard to be fulfilled. In this study, we developed new PIV method which only uses single optical axis to grab the particle images. This new PIV method become possible by utilizing the scanning method similar to echo PIV technique. One particle image of scanning PIV consists of scanned several line images and by repeating this scanning process, two particle images were grabbed and processed to produce the velocity vectors.

  • This study was purposed to find that the elderly in Daejeon city evaluated design details in bathroom, stairway, entrance etc. On the base of housing expenses and an administrative district, the elderly over 65 were chosen and interviewed by well-trained investigators and 583 case was analyzed through SPSS PC 10.0. The results of this study were as follows ; they said a bathtub was necessary, the floor was not slippery, the height of basin was not high and the grab bar around toilet was not in bathroom and emergency bell was not in house. The elderly pointed out that the non-slip floor, grab bar, bathtub in bathroom and non-slip floor in entrance and stairs should be designed carefully. By the condition of the elderly' health and independent daily living and experience of housing, the evaluation of importance on bathroom and approach design by the elderly were different.

  • A goal of this paper is doing fine grained recognition of breed of animal from pet images. Research about fine grained recognition from images is continuously developing, but it is not for animal object recognition because they have polymorphism. This paper proposes method of higher animal object recognition using Grab-cut algorithm for object segmentation and Fisher Vector for image encoding.

An optimization study was performed to find parameters which minimize the measurement errors. The effects of particle diameter, beam overlap ratio and particle number density were investigated.

  • Six soil subsampling methods were evaluated with explosive compounds-contaminated soils to quantify the variance associated with each method. The methods include modified grab sampling, simplified ripple splitting, fractional shoveling, coning & quatering, degenerate fractional shoveling, and rolling & quatering. All the methods resulted in significantly lower CV (coefficient of variation) of 1~5%, compared to common grab sampling that gave 8~98% of CV, possibly due to the reduction of grouping and segregation errors described by Gy sampling theory. Among the methods, simplified ripple splitting tends to result in lower explosive compounds concentrations, while the rolling & quatering gave the opposite result. Fractional shoveling method showed the least variance and the highest reproducibility in the analysis.

  • The technological advancement in computer vision has made system like grab-and-go grocery a reality. Now all the shoppers have to do now is to walk in grab the items and go out without having to wait in the long queues. This paper presents an intelligent retail environment system that is capable of monitoring and tracking customer's activity during shopping based on their interaction with the shelf. It aims to develop a system that is low cost, easy to mount and exhibit adequate performance in real environment.

  • In order to evaluate dredging results scientifically the system which can manage and estimate working process by monitoring dredging process in real-time needs to be constructed. We constructed real-time dredging management system for guidance of a dredging vessel and for survey of dredging construction. This system was designed to have functions of dredger location by GPS, ship direction measurement by GPS/Gyroscope combination, Grab position measurement, dredging depth measurement and correction. In addition, we developed the programs for controlling and operating the constructed system. The system could induce the vessel to accurate position and conduct dredging according to plan and the effectiveness of the system was evaluated through the results of application to actual dredging construction site.
