  • The introduction of competition in the electricity market requires a new paradigm in the capacity planning.   • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data of government policy by evaluating the capacity of construction companies by country. As a result, Korea ranked 7th in construction competitiveness, 13th in design competitiveness, and 7th in price competitiveness among the 20 countries to be compared. As a result of evaluating the competitiveness of construction companies by country, Korea ranked 7th overall.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data of government policy by evaluating the capacity of construction companies by country. As a result, Korea ranked 13th in construction competitiveness, 20th in design competitiveness, and 7th in price competitiveness among the 20 countries to be compared. As a result of evaluating the competitiveness of construction companies by country, Korea ranked 15th overall.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the development strategy for the Hub of Northeast Asia. Those countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China competing us are trying to concentrate on their core capacity. Based on the severe competition surrounding us, we are confronting with a transitional period to upgrade competitiveness. It is acknowledged that the building of economic hub of Northeast Asia is essential to become an advanced country. Therefore, it is becoming an urgent task that Korean government should formulate the development strategy of building efficient transportation network, economic special zone and financial hub.

  • The rail reform in Korea is to separate passenger transportation from freight transportation as a way to vitalize rail freight. The author review the problems rail freight faces, the aims of rail reform, the possibility to introduce competition into the rail freight operation, foreign cases of rail freight and make suggestions about the vitalization of rail freight transportation such as industry structure possible for door-to-door service and low cost operation, freight transportation policy of government, capacity expansion, preparedness for internationalization, mechanism for increasing transparency between users and operators and transfer to commerciality of the carrier.

Performance Characteristics and Improvement Suggestion of Individual Sewage Treatment in Kyangan Watershed (경안천 유역 소규모 오수처리시설의 처리특성 및 효율개선방안)

  • It has been achieved 109.1 kg/d of BOD reduction that is equivalent to the amount of BOD loading discharged from 21,880 persons and dramatic decrease of the fallout ratio against water quality of effluent, from 42% to 9%, through technical support on ISTPs to be applied by the ISMSGA at the upper area of Geongan river in Yong-In city. It was clearly revealed that the most efficient configuration for ISTP was a series of anaerobic tank, equalization basin, aerobic tank, sedimentation tank, and then effluent tank. Also, the major causes on the fallout ratio of ISTP resulted in the lack of management (67.5%) and imperfect facilities (32.5%). Then, when compared the quantity of water supply with the design capacity of ISTP, the design capacity was estimated as 1.8 or 2.4 folds larger than the real quantity of water supply so that it is essential to punctually consider the key factors such as an estimation methods, the specificity of commission operator and construction by high systematic technologies to improve the water quality for the future.

Determining Appropriate Capacity on Installing Photovoltaic System at Deteriorated Educational Facilities

  • With high acknowledgements of environmental conservation and energy saving, many architectural technologies using renewable energy have been recently applied at buildings which take about 20% of total energy consumption. Among renewable energy sources, the photovoltaic is considered as the most highly potential one due to advantages of infiniteness and cleanliness. Also, projects to install renewable energy systems have been continuously performed at deteriorated educational facilities as energy efficient remodeling projects or green school projects by the Korean government. This paper proposes appropriate capacities by school level on installing photovoltaic systems at deteriorated school buildings, based on the balance of annual electricity power demand and supply between buildings and systems. Using the Visual DOE program and Merit program, the appropriate installment capacity of photovoltaic system turned out be 40kWp at elementary school building and 60kWp at middle and high ones. In addition, annual energy use proved to be reduced by 20.2% at elementary school, 26.9% at middle school, and 21.0% at high school by installing photovoltaic systems with the appropriate capacities.

  • Due to the international environmental regulations and changes in policies, the demand for generators using the renewable energy is increasing. However, renewable energy generators with intermittent output characteristics such as solar and wind power generators, need the buffer facilities such as ESS during system operations. However, because of low price competitiveness in energy storage system, it is difficult to operate the renewable energy generator with ESS. Therefore, the government has recently proposed a policy to compensate the REC for renewable energy system with ESS. For all this, since the initial cost of the ESS is high, it is the most important to calculate and operate the optimal capacity of the ESS through an economic analysis. In this paper, we proposed the method of calculation the optimal capacity of ESS and analyzed economic feasibility of renewable energy system using the ESS according to depreciation in ESS price.
