  • Big tech companies are further strengthening its status against the background of data accumulation, price competitiveness by the platform, and competitive advantage due to the network effect. The competition subcommittee of the European Union(EU) imposed a huge fine on Google for antitrust violations, which was interpreted as an attempt to collect Google's unpaid taxes. In fact, taxation efforts in the form of 'Google tax' are underway, targeting expedient tax avoidance by global platforms. It has power and has a considerable influence on the startup ecosystem. The domestic sales and tax scale of global platforms, which have a great impact on domestic content startups and small and medium-sized venture companies, are not accurately measured. In the case of Google, according to research literature, sales in Korea were estimated at about 2 trillion to 3 trillion won in 2017, but Google Korea reported sales of 290 billion won in 2021 and paid 13 billion won in taxes. This study aims to verify the economic effect of the global platform that has a great influence on Korea, and specifically to quantitatively estimate the annual domestic sales and taxes of Google, a representative global platform. As a result of estimating Google's annual domestic sales and taxes based on the figures presented in the document related to Google's economic effect published by Google, the result was 4 to 9 trillion won in annual sales and 390.6 to 913.1 billion won in taxes. This study is meaningful in that it provides basic data on the direction of national and tax policies in the future digital economy era by estimating the problem of tax authority by country of global platform companies with a specific example of Google.

  • This study applies topic modeling to uncover user experience and app issues expressed in users' online reviews of a fan community platform, Weverse on Google Play Store. It allows us to identify the features which need to be improved to enhance user experience or need to be maintained and leveraged to attract more users. Therefore, we collect 88,068 first-level English online reviews of Weverse on Google Play Store with Google-Play-Scraper tool. After the initial preprocessing step, a dataset of 31,861 online reviews is analyzed using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling with Gensim library in Python. There are 5 topics explored in this study which highlight significant issues such as network connection error, delayed notification, and incorrect translation. Besides, the result revealed the app's effectiveness in fostering not only interaction between fans and artists but also fans' mutual relationships. Consequently, the business can strengthen user engagement and loyalty by addressing the identified drawbacks and leveraging the platform for user communication.

  • Google provides mapping services using satellite imagery, this is widely used for the study. Since about 20 years ago, research and business using drones have been expanding. Pix4D is widely used to create 3D information models using drones. This study compared the distance error by comparing the result of the road construction site with the DSM data of Google Earth and Pix4 D. Through this, we tried to understand the reliability of the result of distance measurement in Google Earth. A DTM result of 3.08 cm/pixel was obtained as a result of matching with 49666 key points for each image. The length and altitude of Pix4D and Google Earth were measured and compared using the obtained PCD. As a result, the average error of the distance based on the data of Pix4D was measured to be 0.68 m, confirming that the error was relatively small. As a result of measuring the altitude of Google Earth and Pix4D and comparing them, it was confirmed that the maximum error was 83.214m, which was measured using satellite images, but the error was quite large and there was inaccuracy. Through this, it was confirmed that there are difficulties in analyzing and acquiring data at road construction sites using Google Earth, and the result was obtained that point cloud data using drones is necessary.

  • In order to identify the trends and insights of 'startups' in the global era, we conducted an in-depth trend analysis of the global startup ecosystem using Google Trends, a big data analysis platform. For the validity of the analysis, we verified the correlation between the keywords 'startup' and 'global' through BIGKinds. We also conducted a network analysis based on the data extracted using Google Trends to determine the frequency of searches for the keyword or term 'startup'. The results showed a strong positive linear relationship between the keywords, indicating a statistically significant correlation (correlation coefficient: +0.8906). When exploring global startup trends using Google Trends, we found a terribly similar linear pattern of increasing and decreasing interest in each country over time, as shown in Figure 4. In particular, startup interest was low in the range of 35 to 76 from mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there was a noticeable upward trend in startup interest after March 2022. In addition, we found that the interest in startups in each country except South Korea is very similar, and the related topics are startup company, technology, investment, funding, and keyword search terms such as best startup, tech, business, invest, health, and fintech are highly correlated.

  • This study aims to gain insights into ChatGPT, which has recently received significant attention. The study utilized a mixed method involving case studies and news big data analysis. ChatGPT can be described as an optimized language model for dialogue. The question arises whether ChatGPT will replace Google search services, posing a potential threat to Google. It could hurt Google's advertising business, which is the foundation of its profits. With AI-based chatbots like ChatGPT likely to disrupt the web search industry, Google is establishing a new AI strategy. The study used the BIG KINDS service and analyzed 2,136 articles over six months, from August 23, 2022, to February 22, 2023. Thirty of these articles were written in 2022, while 2,106 have been reported recently as of February 22, 2023. Also, the study examined the contents of ChatGPT by utilizing literature research, news big data analysis, and use cases. Despite limitations such as the potential for false information, analyzing news big data and use cases suggests that ChatGPT is worth using.

  • There are expectations about future internet technology with IT development by end-users. Cloud computing is attracted to satisfy those demands. However, adoption of cloud computing is not active that much. Therefore, this study verified how cloud computing environment affects performance of team project. We conducted empirical study on performance of team project with cloud computing as technology tool focusing on Task-Technology Fit Model. We collected samples that were undergraduate and graduate school students and had experience on initial cloud computing such as Google-Docs and Webhard when they conducted team project for assignment. We focused on accessibility and reliability as task-technology fit and those variables treated as first order factor. Result showed that cloud computing is suitable technology tool for team project. This study suggests positive effects of cloud computing for collaboration by proving perceived fit and performance in initial cloud computing.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify the relation between the Korean wave and Korean cosmetics export. Instead of using UN COMTRADE data as with other researches on the similar studies, this paper adopts Google Trends query index with keyword 'Korean drama'as a proxy variable for cultural trade. With controlling export determining factors such as GDPs of import and export countries, distance, R&D, and FTA, this paper examines whether the Korean wave represented by Google Trends contributes to the explosive increase of Korean cosmetics export in the recent years. Moreover, this study also investigates the possible effects of the Korean wave on export that could vary according to the different trade groups by classifying import countries into two groups: 74 countries worldwide and 9 ASEAN member countries. The results reveal that the Korean wave indeed leads to cosmetics export to ASEAN countries but show weak relation with cosmetics export to worldwide.
