  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the vibration attenuation effects of the different type of gloves and drilling mode while operating a light-weighted powered hand drill. For the experimental design, five different kinds of glove(barehanded cotton partly coated anti-vibration, and open-finger vibration glove) two types of push force level(100N and 200N) and two types of drilling mode(impact and non-impulsive) were considered. Six healthy male subjects were employed to drive screws into a vertically mounted marble plate with a powered hand drill in a randomly ordered experimental conditions. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; (1) It was found that the best combination of overall BMS transmissibility was using impact drilling mode with anti-vibration glove among evaluated experimental conditions (2) The wearing open finger vibration glove in mid-frequency level and anti-vibration glove with impact drill in high-frequency were the best in the result from mean corrected transmissibility equation of ISO 10819.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate problems with both fit and abrasion of golf gloves through a survey of golf usage among golfers over the age of 30, as well as by analyzing the golf glove industry with an emphasis on the size system and marketing situation. In addition, this study aims to suggest the basic raw materials for improving the design of golf gloves through physical properties inspections. The results of the analyses support the following suggestions. First of all, dissatisfaction arose from improper measurement in glove length. The survey showed that most problems occur in the pinky finger, while only the length of the middle finger of the glove is recorded based on Korean Standard Anthropometries Measurement. Clearly, proper measurements of every finger need to be included in the system. Secondly, the survey results clearly indicated regions 7(palm area) and 3(second finger area) as the areas requiring reinforcement. While the method of patching another layer with the same material is commonly used in the current glove market, materials other than genuine leather are unable to complement the abrasion. This study suggests that another layer of refill type genuine leather, which scored best in the physical properties inspection, needs to be patched onto regions 7 and 3.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the changes in the handgrip strength, dexterity, and hand function according to the presence or absence of gloves and types of gloves. METHODS: Seventy-six adults in their twenties (male: 24, female: 52, mean age 21.04 years) were the subjects of this study. The handgrip strength, dexterity, and hand function were evaluated with bare hands without gloves, poly gloves, and latex gloves. The handgrip strength was measured using a dynamometer, and three pinch strength tests were performed: tip pinch, lateral pinch, and three-jaw pinch. The hand dexterity was evaluated using the Minnesota manual dexterity test, and the hand function was evaluated using the Jabson-Taylor hand function test. RESULTS: There was no difference in the grip strength depending on whether the gloves were worn. The hand grip, dexterity, and hand function showed significant differences according to the type of glove. Regarding the handgrip, dexterity, and hand function, the latex glove had the best function, and the poly glove had the lowest function. CONCLUSION: There was a difference in dexterity among the hand functions but no difference in grip strength according to the type of glove. The results suggest that the use of latex gloves in daily life be recommended.

  • Glove valves are used for various purposes in the process control field because such valves enable easy control of temperature and pressure. However, such valves are associated with significant loss of pressure and also have the disadvantage of complicating the shape of the cage or plug to facilitate linear flow rate change. In this paper, the shape of the plug, one of the valve flow control elements, was designed to improve the flow characteristics of the glove valve, and then CFD analysis was performed using compressible fluid. The numerical analysis results of the glove valve were analyzed according to the opening ratio and the pressure ratio of the valve. From these results, it was found that the proper notch on the side of the plug contributed to reducing the energy loss of the fluid through the valve and improving the linearity of the valve.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of glove changing during surgery for colon cancer on reducing the degree of contamination of surgical gloves. Methods: The randomized posttest control group design was used. Total 72 surgeries of colon cancer in the K University Hospital in Seoul performed by the team of A-Surgeon and B-Scrub nurse were randomly assigned to one of the three groups. Glove changing with single-gloved state was implemented in the Experimental Group I and outer glove changing with double-gloved state was executed in the Experimental Group II. Single-gloved state was carried in the Control Group. Following the surgical procedure, specimens for bacterial culture were collected the from scrub nurse's gloves to compare the degree of contamination among the three groups. Data were analyzed with One-way ANOVA and the Scheff$\acute{e}$'s multiple comparison test. Results: The degrees of contamination of the Experimental Group I and II were significantly lower than that of the Control Group. There was no significant difference between Experimental Group I and II. Conclusion: Glove changing during surgery with either single or double-gloved state is effective in reducing the degree of contamination of surgical gloves, therefore these methods should be utilized in clinical practice.

To support the various application of wearable computer, many researches into the input device for wearable computer have been executed. This paper describes the glove-like hand input system for wearable computer. the characteristics of sensed values, and coupling effects between each sensor. Using these characteristics and coupling effects, the general relation between flexion angles of joints and the values from sensors are proposed as exponential functions. Also, the error range of sensed values is proposed and the glove-like hand input system is calibrated as well by the experiments.

  • This paper proposes a tactile transfer and display method between a data glove and vibration motors module. The data glove is developed to capture the hand postures and to measure the grip forces. The measured data are simplified with the proposed 5-bit transfer and display algorithm, and the vibration motors module is developed to display the measured hand posture and grip force to the operator. The proposed 5-bit algorithm contains both an 8-step hand posture and 4-step grip force level information for tactile transfer to the vibration motors module. Also, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through several experiments.

  • Grip strength provides a quick and objective index of the functional integrity of the upper extremities. It is widely used as an assessment measure in physical and rehabilitation medicine. In this study, maximum voluntary grip strength of 20 college students wearing 5 different gloves were measured using Jamar hand dynamometer. The results show that maximum voluntary grip strength was generally reduced when wearing gloves as compared to bare-handed. More specifically, the grip strength was highest when wearing PVC coated glove or bare-handed and getting lowered as wrist band, rubber, leather, and cotton glove in these order. Depending on the measuring posture of grip strength, shoulder height with arm extended forward was higher than the elbow was flexed 90 degree. Moreover, subjects' demographic factors and hand dimensions were not closely related to the grip strength. It is thus recommended that the proper glove should be provided to reduce the negative consequences including dropping a tool, poorer control of a tool. lower quality work, and increased muscle fatigue and in turn to increase the user safety and satisfaction.
