용융중합에 의한 분지형 폴리카보네이트의 유변학적 특성 연구 (A Study on the Rheological Properties of Branched Polycarbonates by Melt Polymerization)

  • 폴리카보네이트(polycarbonate, PC)에 화학적 구조가 다른 두 가지의 분지제를 첨가하여 용융중합으로 분지형 폴리카보네이트(branched PC, B-PC)를 합성하였다. 분지제의 함량은 0.001~0.005 mol% 내에서 조절하였다. 합성된 PC의 화학구조는 FTIR, $^1H$ NMR파 $^{13}C$ NMR 스펙트럼을 이용하여 확인하였으며, 분자량, 유리전이온도 및 분해온도는 GPC, DSC와 TGA를 이용하여 측정하였다. Phloro type의 분지제를 가지는 B-PC의 분자량에 낮은 값을 보여주었으며, 유리전이온도는 분자량에 따라 증가하였다. 두 형태의 B-PC 모두 선형 PC와 비교하였을 때 낮은 주파수(frequency) 영역에서 복합점도(complex viscosity)가 높게 나타났고, shear thinning 현상이 크게 나타났다. Shear thinning의 정도를 표시하는 power law index(n)는 선형회귀분석에 의해 계산되었고 0.483~0.996 범위의 값을 보여주었다. Phloro 타입의 B-PC가 높은 shear thinning 경향을 보였으며 이들 B-PC의 유변학적 특성은 동적유변측정기를 이용하여 측정하였다.

나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 압출횟수에 따른 특성 연구 (Study on the physical properties of nylon66/glass fiber composites as a function of extrusion number)

  • 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 경우 $300^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 사출가공 될 때 물성 저하가 일어날 수 있어, 재이용시 열이력에 대한 체계적인 연구가 필요하다. $305/290/273/268/265/260^{\circ}C$ 온도조건의 이축압출기(twin screw extruder)를 이용하여 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 압출시료를 압출횟수에 따라 제조하였다. 압출횟수에 따른 화학구조, 열적특성, 용융지수, 결정구조, 아이조드 충격강도 및 유변학적 특성을 FT-IR, 용융지수 측정기, DSC, TGA, XRD, Izod 시험기, 그리고 유변물성 측정기를 이용하여 분석하였다. 적외선분광 스펙트럼을 이용하여 확인한 결과 압출횟수에 따른 압출시편에서의 화학구조 변화는 확인되지 않았다. 압출횟수에 따라 분자량이 감소하는 것을 용융지수와 복소점도를 이용하여 확인하였다. 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체의 용융온도는 큰 변화가 없으나, 압출횟수 증가에 따라 분해온도가 $20^{\circ}C$ 정도까지 감소하는 것을 DSC와 TGA를 이용하여 확인하였다. 압출시편의 아이조드 충격강도는 압출횟수가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 또한 나일론66/유리섬유 복합체 압출시편의 G'-G" 곡선의 기울기나 형태가 변하지 않는 것으로부터 압출시편에 가교와 같은 구조변화가 크게 나타나지 않음을 알 수 있었다.

$TiO_2$ 첨가에 따른 붕규산 유리의 분상에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Phase Separation of the Borosilicate Glass by Addition of Titanium Dioxide)

  • The tendency of glass containing titanium-dioxide to separate into two phases can be attributed to a change of the coordination number of titanium from six to four on increase of temperature and to "freezing" of the high temperature four fold coordination on cooling of the melt. Addition of TiO2 to the basic glass 8.7 $Na_2O$ 22.4B2O3 68.9 $SiO_2$ was varied 5 to 25 parts. The phase separation in the temperature range of transformation was examined with each heating temperature and soaking time. As the experimental results, the most distinct phase separation were obtained from alkali extraction method when $TiO_2$ was added 15 parts. The apparant activation energy was 30.5 Kcal/mole by alkali extraction method derived from Arrhenius plots.ius plots.

Formation of Icosahedral Phase in Bulk Glass Forming Ti-Zr-Be-Cu-Ni Alloy

  • Formation of an icosahedral phase in the bulk glass forming $Ti_{40}Zr_{29}Be_{14}Cu_9Ni_8$ alloy during crystallization from amorphous phase and solidification from melt is investigated. The icosahedral phase with a size of 10 to 15 nm forms as a thermodynamically stable phase at intermediate temperature during the transformation from amorphous to crystalline phases such as Laves and ${\beta}$-(Ti-Zr) phases, indicating that the existence of the icosahedral cluster in the undercooled liquid. On the other hand, the icosahedral phase forms as a primary solidification phase even though the Laves phase is stable at high temperature, which is can be explained based on the high nucleation rate of icosahedral phase relative to that of competing crystalline Laves phase due to lower interfacial energy between icosahedral and liquid phases.

  • Li2O.2SiO2 glass-ceramics were made from the melt by the nucleation and growth treatment. The optimum nucleation temperature and time were determined from DTA curves of as-quenched and thermally treated glasses, and found to be 44$0^{\circ}C$ and 3hrs. The optical microscopic technique was also used to support this result. The volume fractions of crystals present in the partially crystallized specimens were measured using the optical microscopy and the amorphous X-ray scattering methods. The degree of crystallization increased with increasing the crystallization temperature and time. The crystalline phase identified by X-ray diffraction was lithium disilicate. As the crystallinity increased up to 95%, the transmittance of glass-ceramics was decreased linearly. It was also found that for the same heat treatment condition (575$^{\circ}C$, 30min), a thicker specimen showed higher transmittance, presumably due to less crystallinity.

Alkali Volatilization in TV Screen Glass Melts

  • The alkali volatilization of TV screen glass melts with various $K_2$O/R$_2$O mole fraction was investigated by dependence of weight loss on time. The melt conductivity was also determined to evaluate relative alkali diffusion in melts. Based on the results of time dependence and compositional dependence of volatilization combining the results of conductivity, the rate determining process of the volatilization was suggested. From the viewpoint of the production and the application of TV glass it was also discussed a correlation between the dependence of properties on $K_2$O/R$_2$O and the present commercial composition.

Optical Properties of PbS Quantum Dots (QDs) Precipitated in Nd3+-Containing Glasses

  • Silicate glasses with different $Nd_2O_3$ concentrations were prepared through conventional melt-quenching methods while PbS quantum dots (QDs) were precipitated through heat treatment. The peak wavelengths of absorption and the photoluminescence of PbS QDs shifted to the short-wavelength side as the concentration of $Nd_2O_3$ increased. The electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) indicated that $Nd^{3+}$ ions were preferentially distributed inside the PbS QDs instead of the glass matrix. In addition, there was no significant change in the lifetimes of the $Nd^{3+}:^4F_{3/2}$ fluorescence between the as-prepared glass ($607{\mu}s$) and the heat-treated glass($576{\mu}s$). $Nd^{3+}$ ions were surrounded by oxygen instead of sulfur and the Nd-O clusters probably acted as nucleating centers for the formation of PbS QDs inside the glasses.

Ionic Conductivity in Lithium-Borate-Tantalate Compound Glasses

  • We have investigated the ionic conductivity and dielectric relaxation in $Li_2B_4O_7$ (LBO) and $Li_2O-B_2O_3-Ta_2O_5$ (LBTO) glasses. The sample was synthesized by using the melt quenching method. The frequency dependence of the electrical data from the LBO and LBTO glasses has been analyzed in the frameworks of the impedance Cole-Cole formalism and the universal power-law representation driven by the modified fractional Rayleigh equation. The potential barriers in the LBO and the LBTO glasses turn out to be the same. Comparing with the dc and ac activation energies of the LBO glass, these energies of the LBTO glass decrease due to the increasing Coulomb interaction of inter-cationic interaction.

Float 공법을 고려한 Plasma Display Panel용 기판유리 용융체의 특성 (Melt Properties of Plasma Display Panel Substrate Glasses Based on Float Process)

  • In order to examine the working condition of melts in tin bath of float process it was investigated Sn diffusion behavior and solidification rate of melts for alkali-alkaline earth-silica PDP substrate glasses such as commercial CaO rich CS-77 glass, commercial $Al_2O_3$ rich PD-200 glass and self developed $SiO_2$ rich T-series (T-2, T-4, T-6) glasses. In the case of Sn depth and concentration created in glass surface by ion exchange between Sn and alkali, T-series showed lower value than CS-77, especially T-2 is more excellent than PD-200. The solidification rate of melts expressed by cooling time between $log{\eta}=4\;and\;7.6dPa{\cdot}s$ was low for T-series comparing with CS-77 and PD-200. Therefore, it was concluded that T-series is desirable considering forming condition in the tin bath of the float process.

Plasma Display Panel용 기판 유리용융체의 내화물 침식 (Corrosion of Refractory in Glass Melts for Plasma Display Panel Substrate)

  • For self-developed alkali-alkaline earth-silicate and commercial glass melts for plasma display panel substrate, the corrosion behavior of fused casting refractory consisting of $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2$ was examined at the temperature corresponding to $10^2\;dPa{\cdot}s$ of melt viscosity by static finger methode. The corroded refractory specimens showed a typical concave shape due to interfacial convection of melts at their flux line. However, the corrosion thickness by commercial glass melts was $6\sim10$ times comparing to that by the self?developed melts. From the view point of the glass composition and the role of alkaline earth in glass network, it was discussed the effect of alkali/alkaline earth diffusion and temperature on the refractory corrosion.
