Rubber related geosynthetics(GS) as reinforcement and water barrier materials were manufactured by thermal bonding method and examined the their performance for applications to civil and environmental engineering fields. The spunbonded polyester nonwoven, fiber glass mat and fabric type geogrid of a high tenacity polyester filament were used as matrix and polyester film, elastomeric bitumen with SBS polymer and asphalt were used as reinforcements to manufacture the rubber related geosynthetics. A fiber glass mat and geogrid matrix GS showed more excellent mechanical properties and nonwoven and elastomeric bitumen matrix showed the more excellent permittivity. Softening points of rubber and asphalt mixture showed no difference and dimensional stability at high temperature, $120^{\circ}C$, represented no significant shrinkage. Resistance to ultraviolet of rubber related geosynthetics showed no visible alteration.
Demand for the fabric wipes is growing continuously. Wipes in industry are used for cleaning purpose. Cleaning involves rubbing action, so it is very important to know how much frictional force is encountered during the cleaning action. In this study the effects of normal load, sliding speed on frictional characteristics of nonwoven and woven wipes, both dry and wetted with different liquids, against glass and floor tile surfaces have been reported. With the increase in the normal load the coefficient of friction goes on decreasing for both nonwoven and woven wipes and this trend is observed in both dry and wet wipes. The coefficient of friction of both nonwoven and woven wipes against glass surface is in general higher than the floor tile surface. The wipes wetted with water shows an increase in coefficient of friction as compared to dry sample, but there is reduction in the coefficient of friction when the wipe samples are wetted with vegetable oil. In case of dry wipes, the coefficient of friction in case of nonwoven wipe is higher than the woven wipe. In case of woven wipes, the ranges of coefficient of friction either due to change in liquid type, normal load or sliding speed are in general smaller than that in case of nonwoven fabrics.

The study covers the behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams loaded under 4-point bending, failed by shear and repaired using bonding glass fiber reinforced plastics fabrics (GFRP) patches. Two rehabilitation methods have been used to highlight the influence of the composite on the ultimate strength of the beams and their failure modes. In the first series of trials the work has been focused on the reinforcement/rehabilitation of the beam by following the continuous configuration of the FRP fabric. The patch with a U-shape did not provide satisfactory results because this reinforcement strategy does not allow to increase the ultimate strength or to avoid the abrupt shear failure mode. A second methodology of rehabilitation/reinforcement has been developed in the form of SCR (Strips of Critical Region), in which the composite materials reinforcements are positioned to band the inclined cracks (shear) caused by the shear force. The results obtained by using this method lead a superior out come in terms of ultimate strength and change of the failure mode from abrupt shearing to ductile bending.
Construction industry is one of the largest markets for composite materials. Composite materials are mostly utilized as surface coatings or concrete reinforcements, and they can hardly be found as a load bearing member in buildings. The three-dimensional composite structures with considerable bending, compressive and shear strengths are capable to be used as construction load bearing members. However, these composites cannot compete with other materials due to higher manufacturing costs. If the cost issue is resolved or their excellent performance is taken into consideration to overcome disadvantages related to economic-competitive challenges, these 3D composites can significantly reduce the construction time and result in lighter and safer buildings. Sandwich composite panels reinforced with 3D woven glass fabrics are amongst composites with highest bending strength. The current study investigates the possibility of utilizing these composite materials to construct ceilings and their application as slabs. One-to-one scale experimental loading of these composite panels shows a remarkable bending strength. Simulation results using ABAQUS software, also indicate that theoretical predictions of bending behavior of these panels are in good agreement with the observed experimental results.
In this paper, two different experiments, namely, salt water spray and salt water immersion, were performed to reproduce the contact of composites with the seawater for three kinds of woven fabric composite material systems which would be used for the WIG(wing in ground effect)craft. After aging 140 days in the salt water environment, material properties of carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite such as tensile, compressive and shear stiffness and strength, and inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS) were measured. By comparing baseline material properties with degraded ones, the effects of the salt water environment on the composite mechanical properties were evaluated. From the experiments, it was confirmed that the difference in aging conditions had very small influence on composite properties. And it was found that tensile strength of carbon/epoxy composites showed little degradation, but much more degradation was observed in glass/epoxy composites. And large degradations on matrix dominant properties were observed. The salt water could damage the fiber-matrix interface, matrix properties and the glass fiber.
This study was conducted to develop a system that processes harmful gases and dust, which being generated in the production of micro-inorganic fabric. This can be obtained by melt spinning raw materials such as agalmatolite, fluorspar, limestone, silica under high temperature at $1500-1600^{\circ}C$ in a glass recuperator using a dry method by Cyclone Reactor or Envelope Type (ET) type Bag Filter. If the number of the members of Korea Glass Industry Association reaches up to 45, the damage of the harmful gas being generated in recuperator should not be small. In addition, research of existing facilities showed the most of harmful gas treatment facilities which adopt wet treatment or semi-dry treatment process. This was caused the problems for wastewater and the second pollutive materials. Moreover, in the dust collecting facility behind recuperator, it is also problematic that electric dust collector requires enormous initial investment. We have researched various methods to show both economic and efficient new processes for the preventive facilities of recuperator. As the result of the experiments, the removal efficiencies of HF and SOx were 99% and 87%, respectively. Although it was insignificant reaction, a pretty much interesting result that NOx showed an absorption reaction with $Ca(OH)_2$(removal efficiency was more than 25%) was obtained.

In this study, the failure modes and energy absorption characteristics of four different kinds of circular tubes made of carbon, glass, Kevlar and carbon-Kevlar hybrid fibres composites with epoxy resin have been evaluated. To achieve these goals, compressive tests were conducted for the tubes under 10mm/min loading speed. Based on the test results, the carbon/epoxy tube showed the best energy absorption capability, while carbon-Kevlar/epoxy tubes were worst. In the failure mode during crushing, both of the carbon/epoxy tubes and the glass/epoxy tubes were crushed by brittle fracturing mode. The Kevlar/epoxy tubes were collapsed by local buckling mode like steel, while the carbon-Kevlar hybrid tubes were collapsed by mixed mode of local buckling and lamina bending.

Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites are applied to transport industries to lightweight of body, and applications will be expanded gradually. In this study, the impregnation and mechanical properties of continuous glass fiber (GF) reinforced polycarbonate (PC) composites were evaluated with different molecular weights of PC. The continuous GF reinforced PC composite were prepared by using GF fabric and PC film via continuous compression molding method. The melting flow index and tensile strength of PC matrix were evaluated with different molecular weights. Mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, and compressive) and pore rate of GF/PC composite were evaluated with different molecular weights of PC. The fracture behavior was analyzed to fracture surface of GF/PC composite using FE-SEM images. As these results, it was condition of representing the best mechanical property that the GF/PC composite was prepared by using PC of 20,000 g/mol as matrix.

Concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer tubes are often used for marine structures with the benefit of good durability and high resistance against corrosion under severe chemical environment. Current research presents results of a comprehensive experimental investigation on the behavior of axially loaded circular concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer tubes. This paper is intended to examine several aspects related to the usage of glass fiber fabrics and filament wound layers used for outer shell of piles subjected to axial compression. The objectives of the study are as follows: (1) to evaluate the effectiveness of filament winding angle of glass fiber layers (2) to evaluate the effect of number of GFRP layers on the ultimate load and ductility of confined concrete (3) to evaluate the effect of loading condition of specimens on the effectiveness of confinement and failure characteristics as well, and (4) to propose a analytical model which describes the stress-strain behavior of the confined concrete. Three different types of glass fiber layers were chosen; fabric layer, ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ filament winding layer, and ${\pm}85^{\circ}$ filament winding layer. They were put together or used independently in the fabrication of tubes. Specimens that have various L:D ratios and different diameters have also been tested. Totally 27 GFRP tube specimens to investigate the tension capacity, and 66 concrete-filled GFRP tube specimens for compression test were prepared and tested. The behavior of the specimens in the axial and transverse directions, failure types were investigated. Analytical model and parameters were suggested to describe the stress-strain behavior of concrete under confinement.

Instrumented impact tests and compression-after-impact(CAI) tests have been used to evaluate the effect of temperature on the low-velocity impact characteristics of phenolic matrix composites reinforced with various woven glass fabric. Impact characteristics and damage area in laminates are evaluated by C-scan. It is shown that the extent of damage and residual compressive strength of the laminates vary with energy level and impact test temperature. The damage area increases with increasing impact energy and temperature. All these observations indicate reduced impact damage resistance and damage tolerance of the laminates at elevated temperature.
