A existing design method of PSC girder bridges, according to total service loads, stress required tendon force at a time. Because this design method increases beam depth, design of long span is difficult. However, As UC girder stressing at difficult loading stages reduces sectional depth of PSC girder, both design and operation of long span bridges is possible. so, this study analyzes the effect of design parameter (Girder Strength, Girder Spacing, Span Length, Joint Strength) on the beam depth of IPC girder continuous bridges, and shows sectional depth of UC girder for design of long span bridges. According to analysis, when a continuous bridges of same length span is at strength of joint over strength of girder of 600kg/$cm^{2}$, a change of beam depth is observed and when a continuous bridges of different span length is at strength of joint below strength of girder of 600kg/$cm^{2}$, a change of beam depth is observed. In two case, a change of beam depth is mostly observed over strength of girder of 350kg/$cm^{2}$ according to analysis of deflection data, a continuous bridges of IPC girder is nearly satisfied.
The length-depth ratio of the preflex and PSC girder is very important variable. But PSC girder is very difficult to reduce the depth. If the bridge that girder depth is most important variable, then generally the great part of engineers are use the preflex girder that more expensive method then PSC girder. This paper introduce the design example that replace the preflex girder with the IPC girder The bridge span is 44m, and depth is 1.15m. The depth is restrained in 1.15m by several conditions. And it is compare preflex with IPC girder in semi condition. These two girders are very different in economy and execution. So, this paper present more economic and easy construction method.
The applicability of the concept of IPC(Incrementally Prestressed Concrete) girder which effectively reduces the depth of the conventional prestressed girders by introducing prestress in two different stages is theoretically reviewed in this research. Expressions on top and bottom stresses resulting from different loading stages are presented. Beneficial effects of IPC girder compared with those traditional prestressed girders are evaluated by investigating the girder depth for the same span or girder span for the same girder depth. Parking structures and ware house structures which need relatively longer span and are subject to large live loads are considered in comparison. It was found that the single or double tee slab designed by IPC concept could be built upto 50% longer in its span and upto 45% less in its depth compared to those of traditionally prestressed single or double tee slabs. In addition, the amount of prestressing tendons could be reduced.
The depth of superstructure is the summation of the height of girders and the thickness of the deck floor. In this study, it is aim to determine the maximum span length of girders and minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge. For this purpose the superstructure of the bridge with the width of 10m and the thickness of the deck floor of 0.175m, which the girders length was changed by two meter increments between 15m and 35m, was taken into account. Twelve different girders with heights of 60, 75, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170 and 180 cm, which are frequently used in Turkey, were chosen as girder type. The analyses of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I girder bridge was conducted with I-CAD software. In the analyses AASHTO LRFD (2012) conditions were taken into account a great extent. The dead loads of the structural and non-structural elements forming the bridge superstructure, prestressing force, standard truck load, equivalent lane load and pedestrian load were taken into consideration. HL93, design truck of AASHTO and also H30S24 design truck of Turkish Code were selected as vehicular live load. The allowable concrete stress limit, the number of prestressed strands, the number of debonded strands and the deflection parameters obtained from analyses were compared with the limit values found in AASHTO LRFD (2012) to determine the suitability of the girders. At the end of the study maximum span length of girders and equation using for calculation for minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge were proposed.
There has been a strong demand on more economic and lower depth girder bridges for short and medium span range, PRECOM, which is a new type steel-concrete composite girder, has been developed to realize a more economic bridge system with a lower depth girder. In the PRECOM girder bridge, a steel plate girder is simply supported and then concrete form is hung to girder. Thus, the self-weight of the concrete is loaded to the steel girder. To increase the resistance of concrete in the lower casing against tensile stress, compressive force is introduced by prestressed tendon To evaluate the manufacturability and performances of the completed bridge, four 15-m girders and a bridge specimen with two 20m girders wvere constructed. The camber during the construction and introduction of an appropriate compressive force was evaluated. Dynamic data were obtained through the modal testing of the completed girders. Static loading test was also conducted to examine cracks and evaluate the decrease in stiffness and failure behavior under extreme conditions.
The recent development of PSC girder bridges are mostly dedicated for optimization of self-weight, simplification of girder section for easy construction and minimization of maintenance efforts. Moreover some of those bridges are required as a landmark facility which raises the image of locality and harmony with surroundings. An extradosed bridge is one of the best alternates which not only covers the longer span than PSC box girder and also performs the role of landmark facility with much cheaper cost than cable stayed bridge. Hyundai is carrying out the construction of unique style extradosed bridge which have central suspension system and uniform girder depth named Keong-An grand bridge on the Sungnam-Janghowon Express highway. In this paper, major process of design and construction features of Keong-An bridge is presented.
This paper proposes a modified bar simulation method for analyzing the shear lag effect of variable sectional box girder with multiple cells. This theoretical method formulates the equivalent area of stiffening bars and the allocation proportion of shear flows in webs, and re-derives the governing differential equations of bar simulation method. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by the model test and finite element (FE) analysis of a simply supported multi-cell box girder with constant depth. Subsequently, parametric analysis is conducted to explore the mechanism of shear lag effect of varied sectional cantilever box girder with multiple cells. Results show that the shear lag behavior of variable box-section cantilever box girder is weaker than that of box girder with constant section. It is recommended to make the gradient of shear flow in the web with respect to span length vary as smoothly as possible for eliminating the shear lag effect of box girder. An effective countermeasure for diminishing shear lag effect is to increase the number of box chambers or change the variation manner of bridge depth. The shear lag effect of varied sectional cantilever box girder will get more server when the length of central flanges is shorter than 0.26 or longer than 0.36 times of total width of top flange, as well as the cantilever length exceeds 0.29 times of total length of box's flange. Therefore, the distance between central webs can adjust the shear lag effect of box girder. Especially, the width ratio of cantilever plate with respect to total length of top flange is proposed to be no more 1/3.
The two-girder composite bridge has the girder space of more than 5m, for special case, over than 15m. Therefor, the design and construction of this bridge system require new approaches. To ensure the structural safety, the deck depth should be increased. Therefore, the economically designed deck system is necessary for th two-girder bridge. This study is the first step to develop the deck system for two-girder bridges. In this study, a literatute survey is performed to develop a new deck system for two-girder type of bridges. By considering the characteristics of two-girder bridge system, a cast-in-place PSC deck is proposed for the two-girder bridges. To examine structural behavior and safety of the proposed PSC deck, three real scale partition deck(3m$\times$5m) are tested under the static loading. In the test, the failure mode and behavior of each specimen, and ultimate load carrying capacity of the two-girder-bridge deck are identified.
Current engineering practice in determining sectional dimensions of prestressed concrete (PSC) girders for bridges is primarily based on the code-specified allowable concrete stresses at different loading stages. It is customary that tendons and sectional dimensions are calibrated and tendon forces are applied at once at the initial stage to keep the subsequent stresses occurring at different loading stages within the allowable stresses. This traditional tensioning method, however, usually results in a too conservative sectional depth in view of ultimate capacity of a girder. A new design method which can realize the reduction of sectional depth of PSC girders is theoretically suggested in this study. Tendons are tensioned twice at different loading stages: the initial stage and the stage after fresh slab concrete is cast. It can be shown that according to this technique, sectional depth can be significantly reduced and larger span can be realized compared to traditional ones. Parametric studies are performed with due considerations given to its practical applications.
In this paper, a new splicing method was applied to design the girder section of bridges with the span length of 25m, 30m, 35m, 40m and 45m. A U-type precast prestressed section was also determined for each bridge. Additionally, the sectional area, beam depth and Guyon's efficiency factor of the spliced U-type sections in each span were analyzed in comparison with the present I-type PSC bridges. As a result, in spite of an increase of 31%∼50% in the sectional areas compared with the I-type precast girders, the spliced U-type the beam depth of the spliced U-type girder was designed as 2,050 mm compared with the I-type precast girder of 2,600mm in a 40m span bridge. The sectional efficiency factors of the spliced U-type sections were analyzed as 0.76∼0.99. It shows that the spliced U-type sections ar of a superior structural efficiency in contrast to the average sectional efficiency factor of 0.66 value in the I-type girders.
