Mobile Gesture Recognition using Dynamic Time Warping with Localized Template (지역화된 템플릿기반 동적 시간정합을 이용한 모바일 제스처인식)

  • Recently, gesture recognition methods based on dynamic time warping (DTW) have been actively investigated as more mobile devices have equipped the accelerometer. DTW has no additional training step since it uses given samples as the matching templates. However, it is difficult to apply the DTW on mobile environments because of its computational complexity of matching step where the input pattern has to be compared with every templates. In order to address the problem, this paper proposes a gesture recognition method based on DTW that uses localized subset of templates. Here, the k-means clustering algorithm is used to divide each class into subclasses in which the most centered sample in each subclass is employed as the localized template. It increases the recognition speed by reducing the number of matches while it minimizes the errors by preserving the diversities of the training patterns. Experimental results showed that the proposed method was about five times faster than the DTW with all training samples, and more stable than the randomly selected templates.

  • Most of the research in the multi-touch area is based on the FTIR(Frustrated Total Internal Re리ection), which is just implemented by using the previous approach. Moreover, there are not the software solutions to improve a performance in the multi touch-blobs detection or the user gesture recognition. Therefore, we implement a multi-touch table-top display that is based on the DI(Diffused Illumination), the improved touch-points detection and user gesture recognition. The proposed method supports a simultaneous transformation multi-touch command for objects in the running application. Also, the system latency time is reduced by the proposed ore-testing method in the multi touch-blobs detection processing. Implemented device is simulated by programming the Flash AS3 application in the TUIO(Tangible User Interface Object) environment that is based on the OSC(Open Sound Control) protocol. As a result, Our system shows the 37% system latency reduction, and is successful in the multi-touch gestures recognition.

A Survey of Objective Measurement of Fatigue Caused by Visual Stimuli (시각자극에 의한 피로도의 객관적 측정을 위한 연구 조사)

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate and review the previous researches about objective measuring fatigue caused by visual stimuli. Also, we analyze possibility of alternative visual fatigue measurement methods using facial expression recognition and gesture recognition. Background: In most previous researches, visual fatigue is commonly measured by survey or interview based subjective method. However, the subjective evaluation methods can be affected by individual feeling's variation or other kinds of stimuli. To solve these problems, signal and image processing based visual fatigue measurement methods have been widely researched. Method: To analyze the signal and image processing based methods, we categorized previous works into three groups such as bio-signal, brainwave, and eye image based methods. Also, the possibility of adopting facial expression or gesture recognition to measure visual fatigue is analyzed. Results: Bio-signal and brainwave based methods have problems because they can be degraded by not only visual stimuli but also the other kinds of external stimuli caused by other sense organs. In eye image based methods, using only single feature such as blink frequency or pupil size also has problem because the single feature can be easily degraded by other kinds of emotions. Conclusion: Multi-modal measurement method is required by fusing several features which are extracted from the bio-signal and image. Also, alternative method using facial expression or gesture recognition can be considered. Application: The objective visual fatigue measurement method can be applied into the fields of quantitative and comparative measurement of visual fatigue of next generation display devices in terms of human factor.

A Study on the Motion and Voice Recognition Smart Mirror Using Grove Gesture Sensor (그로브 제스처 센서를 활용한 모션 및 음성 인식 스마트 미러에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the development of a smart mirror that allows control of its display through glove gestures and integrates voice recognition functionality. The hardware configuration of the smart mirror consists of an LCD monitor combined with an acrylic panel, onto which a semi-mirror film with a reflectance of 37% and transmittance of 36% is attached, enabling it to function as both a mirror and a display. The proposed smart mirror eliminates the need for users to physically touch the mirror or operate a keyboard, as it implements gesture control through glove gesture sensors. Additionally, it incorporates voice recognition capabilities and integrates Google Assistant to display results on the screen corresponding to voice commands issued by the user.

A Study on the Gesture Matching Method for the Development of Gesture Contents (체감형 콘텐츠 개발을 위한 연속동작 매칭 방법에 관한 연구)

  • The recording and matching method of pose and gesture based on PC-window platform is introduced in this paper. The method uses the gesture detection camera, Xtion which is for the Windows PC. To develop the method, the API is first developed which processes and compares the depth data, RGB image data, and skeleton data obtained using the camera. The pose matching method which selectively compares only valid joints is developed. For the gesture matching, the recognition method which can differentiate the wrong pose between poses is developed. The tool which records and tests the sample data to extract the specified pose and gesture is developed. 6 different pose and gesture were captured and tested. Pose was recognized 100% and gesture was recognized 99%, so the proposed method was validated.

  • This paper proposes interactive game elements for children : contents, design, sound, gesture recognition, and speech recognition. Interactive games for early children must use the contents which reflect the educational needs and the design elements which are all bright, friendly, and simple to use. Also the games should consider the background music which is familiar with children and the narration which make easy to play the games. In gesture recognition and speech recognition, the interactive games must use gesture and voice data which hits to the age of the game user. Also, this paper introduces the development process for the interactive skipping game and applies the child-oriented contents, gestures, and voices to the game.

A Study on the Gesture Recognition Using the Particle Filter Algorithm (Particle Filter를 이용한 제스처 인식 연구)

  • The recognition of human gestures in image sequences is an important and challenging problem that enables a host of human-computer interaction applications. This paper describes a gesture recognition algorithm based on the particle filters, namely CONDENSATION. The particle filter is more efficient than any other tracking algorithm because the tracking mechanism follows Bayesian estimation rule of conditional probability propagation. We used two models for the evaluation of particle Inter and apply the MATLAB for the preprocessing of the image sequence. But we implement the particle filter using the C++ to get the high speed processing. In the experimental results, it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm prove to be robust in the cluttered environment.

  • Gesture is applied in many applications such as smart-phone, tablet-PC, and web-browser since it is a fast and simple way to invoke commands. For gesture applications, a gesture designer needs to consider both user and system during designing gestures. In spite of development of gesture design tools, some difficulties for gesture design still remains as followings; first, a designer must design every gesture manually one by one, and, second, a designer must repeatedly train gestures. In this paper, we propose a gesture proposal system that automates gesture training and gesture generation to provide more simple gesture design environment. Using automation of gesture training, a designer does not need to manually train gestures. Proposed gesture proposal system would decrease difficulties of gesture design by suggesting gestures of high recognition possibility that are generated based on mahalanobis distance calculation among generated and pre-existing gestures.

  • 동작인식(gesture recognition) 기술은 입력 영상으로부터 영상에 포함된 사람들의 동작을 인식하는 기술로써 영상감시(visual surveillance), 사람-컴퓨터 상호작용(human-computer interaction), 지능로봇(intelligence robot) 등 다양한 적용분야를 가진다. 특히 최근에는 저비용의 거리 센서(range sensor) 및 효율적인 3차원 자세 추정(3D pose estimation)기술의 등장으로 동작인식은 기존의 어려움들을 극복하고 다양한 산업분야에 적용이 가능할 정도로 발전을 거듭하고 있다. 본고에서는 그러한 거리영상(range image) 기반의 동작인식 기술에 대한 최신 연구동향을 살펴본다.
