The geometry parameter of tool such as rake angle and clearance angle is defined clearly to solve the difference in communication between design and measurement stage. Using the developed simulation program, wheel is properly determined and end mill can be manufactured accurately. The performance test with well defined end mill provides sufficient information to decide optimal geometry. For machining hardened steel, end mills are designed and manufactured. Optimal rake angle and clearance angle is obtained from performance test. A specific software for automatic end mill production is developed far simulation and fur generation of NC code as Cad/CAM system.
In this study, the dynamic flying characteristics of the worn head sliders are investigated theoretically due to the change in head geometry caused by head and disk contact. The film shapes can be approximated as taper- truncated cycloidal-flat film. Two-dimensional time dependent modified Reynolds equation included molecular slip effect are formulated with neglected the roughness effect. The motion of head slider was assumed to have two degree of freedom in this work. Finite difference approximation with Newton Raphson iterative technique and the fourth order Runge-Kutta method were implemented to obtain the transient response of the slider head with various change in head geometry numerically and compared with the transient response of the IBM3380 type head slider. The simulation results show the film shape has affects significantly on the static and dynamic characteristic of slider head in magnetic storage systems.
We describe the implementation of a multi-dimensional numerical code to solve the equations for idea! magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in cylindrical geometry. It is based on an explicit finite difference scheme on an Eulerian grid, called the Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) scheme, which is a second-order-accurate extension of the Roe-type upwind scheme. Multiple spatial dimensions are treated through a Strang-type operator splitting. Curvature and source terms are included in a way to insure the formal accuracy of the code to be second order. The constraint of a divergence-free magnetic field is enforced exactly by adding a correction, which involves solving a Poisson equation. The Fourier Analysis and Cyclic Reduction (FACR) method is employed to solve it. Results from a set of tests show that the code handles flows in cylindrical geometry successfully and resolves strong shocks within two to four computational cells. The advantages and limitations of the code are discussed.
The micellization of dodecylpyridinum chloride (DPC) assembled on aqueous gold nanoparticles has been studied as a function of concentration using Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS). At the low concentration, the strong SERS band of the benzene ring moiety was observed at 1025 $cm^{-1}$, and assigned to “trigonal ring breathing”. According to high concentration of DPC, a new strong band was also appeared at 1012 $cm^{-1}$, which was assigned to “totally symmetry ring breathing”. The difference of two spectra seems to ascribe to the geometry of polar head group, i.e., pyridinium cation. These geometry exist flat-down at low concentration, whereas standing-up or tilted geometry at high concentration. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) was first obtained from the ratio of intensities of the two bands related to the benzene ring moiety by vibrational spectroscopy, and was about 28 mM. After the CMC, the benzene ring moiety in the micelle state was more restricted than in monomer state because there is no more change of intensities at 1012 $cm^{-1}$. In addition, the size of gold-assembled micelle was estimated using light scattering and it was about 328.3 nm.
In this study, we the estimated surface normalized difference vegetation index by using the KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) multi-spectral images for comparative analysis. The estimated NDVI from KOMPSAT-3 is used as for comparison with the high resolution GeoEye products. The geometry conditions for atmospheric effects are selected from meta files of KOMPSAT-3 bundle data. The used geometry conditions are consist of solar zenith angle, solar azimuth angle, viewing zenith angle, viewing azimuth angle, and date. And, Atmospheric effects such as attenuation, scattering and absorption were physically simulated from water vapor, ozone and aerosol information. Generally, although ground measurements are important for accurate information, in this study, MODIS atmospheric products are used as atmospheric constituents. The surface reflectance from radiative transfer model is utilized for estimating vegetation index. The present study, to reduce atmospheric and geometry conditions between KOMPSAT-3 and GeoEye having difference observation characteristics, data acquisition time is carefully determined for reliable vegetation spectral characteristics.

The heat transfer and friction characteristics of the heat exchangers having sinusoidal wave fins were experimentally investigated. Twenty-nine samples having different waffle heights (1.5 mm and 2.0 m), fin pitches (1.3mm to 1.7mm) and tube rows (one to three) were tested. Focus was given to the effect of the waffle configuration (herringbone or sinusoidal) on the heat transfer and friction characteristics. Results show that the sinusoidal wave geometry provides higher heat transfer coefficients and friction factors than the herringbone wave geometry, and the difference increases as the number of row increases. The i/f ratios of the herringbone wave geometry, however, are larger than those of the sinusoidal wave geometry. Compared to the herringbone wave geometry, the sinusoidal wave geometry yielded a weak row effect, which suggests a superior heat transfer performance at the fully developed flow region. Possible explanation is provided considering the flow characteristics in wavy channels. Within the present geometric range, the effect of the waffle height on the heat transfer coefficient was not prominent. The effect of the fin pitch was also negligible. Existing correlations highly overpredicted both the heat transfer coefficients and friction factors. A new correlation was developed using the present data.
Data composite methods have been typically applied to satellite-based vegetation index(VI) data to continuously acquire vegetation greenness over the land surface. Data composites are useful for construction of long-term archives of vegetation indices by minimizing missing data or contamination from noise. In addition, if multi-sensor vegetation indices that are acquired during the same composite periods are used interchangeably, data stability and continuity may be significantly enhanced. This study evaluated the influences of sensor geometry on MODIS vegetation indices and investigated data compatibility of two difference vegetation indices, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) and the Enhanced Vegetation Index(EVI), for potential improvement of long-term data construction. Relationships between NDVI and EVI turned out statistically significant with variations among vegetation covers. Due to their curvilinear relationships, NDVI became saturated and leveled off as EVI reached high ranges. Correlation coefficients between Terra- and Aqua-based vegetation indices ranged from 0.747 to 0.963 for EVI, and from 0.641 to 0.880 for NDVI, showing better compatibility for EVI compared to NDVI. In-depth analyses of VI outliers that deviated from regression equations constructed from the two different sensors remain as a future study to improve their compatibility.
A new moving boundary technique for leap-frog finite difference numerical mode is proposed for the resonable simulation of coastal inundation over discontinuous topography. The new scheme improves the moving boundary technique developed by Imamura(1996). The present scheme is tested using the analytical solution of Thacker(1981) for the case of free oscillation with moving boundary in a parabolic bowl. Finally, a numerical simulation is conducted for the flooding over a tidal barrier constructed on a simple concave geometry. A general feature of inundation over a discontinuous topography is well described by the numerical model.

The GMA welding process involves large number of interdependent variables which may affect product quality, productivity and cost effectiveness. The relationships between process parameters for a fillet joint and bead geometry are complex because a number of process parameters are involved. To make the automated GMA welding, a method that predicts bead geometry and accomplishes the desired mechanical properties of the weldment should be developed. The developed method should also cover a wide range of material thicknesses and be applicable for all welding position. For the automatic welding system, the data must be available in the form of mathematical equations. In this study a new intelligent model with genetic algorithm has been proposed to investigate interrelationships between welding parameters and bead geometry for the automated GMA welding process. Through the developed model, the correlation between process parameters and bead geometry obtained from the actual experimental results, predicts that data did not show much of a difference, which means that it is quite suitable for the developed genetic algorithm. Progress to be able to control the process parameters in order to obtain the desired bead shape, as well as the systematic study of the genetic algorithm was developed on the basis of the data obtained through the experiments in this study can be applied. In addition, the developed genetic algorithm has the ability to predict the bead shape of the experimental results with satisfactory accuracy.

The geometry of satellite image captured by linear CCD sensor is different from that of frame camera image. The fact that the exterior orientation parameters for satellite image with linear CCD sensor varies from scan line by scan line, causes the difference of image geometry between frame and linear CCD sensor. Therefore, we need the epipolar geometry for linear CCD image which differs from that of frame camera image. In this paper, we proposed a method of resampling linear CCD satellite image in epipolar geometry under the assumption that image is not formed in perspective projection but in parallel projection, and the sensor model is a 2D affine sensor model based on parallel projection. For the experiment, IKONOS stereo images, which are high resolution linear CCD images, were used and tested. As results, the spatial accuracy of 2D affine sensor model is investigated and the accuracy of epipolar resampled image with RFM was presented.
