  • In contrast to parts of relatively simple shapes, it is important to match their cross-sectional shapes during mating parts of complicated shapes. It requires the 2.pi. information along their matching boundary to figure out their relative geometrical shapes. In this paper, we propose a method measuring a misalignment at the interface during mating parts with the complicated shapes by using the omnidirectional image sensing system(OLSSA). Also we carried out experiments in order to prove the method, and the results show the feasibility.

  • The purpose of this research is to find out if it is possible to apply the Waldorf School's mathematics education method to Korean alternative schools which are run under the national curriculum. To achieve this, the researcher conducted class on geometry for three weeks with ten 7th graders(four girls and six boys) from Apple Tree Waldorf alternative school in Busan, which has adopted Valdorf education courses. For the first two weeks, the class was about 'fundamental geometrical construction', and then it was evaluated. On the third week, the lesson was on plane figures, followed by a test with 9 plane figure questions that are based on general middle school mathematics curriculum. The result shows that most of the students understood 'fundamental geometrical construction'. When it comes to the test on 'plane figures', seven students got 8 out of 9 right, two students got 6 out of 9 right, and one of them had difficulty solving the questions. According to the results of this research, it is thought that there will be no problem for students to understand mathematical concept even if the Waldorf School's mathematics education method is applied to Korean alternative schools. Also, the Waldorf School's mathematics education method is considered to be a good teaching model for the Korean mathematics curriculum which places emphasis on 'mathematical creativity' in regard to the curriculum and contents.

  • The subject of this paper is to find out the characteristics of Michael Graves' housing design. I collected the information of his designs and teamed his design language through his works on different time. I chose five actual housings for analysis which were built since 1960 when he have started his career. Though analysis of the exterior view, plane figures and the total arrangement photos, I could reached the conclusion. From analysis of this research I could figure out the characteristic of Michael Graves housing design as follows. During his whole working career $(1960\~present)$, his design style has went through distinctive characteristic changes that can be divided into: 1960s to early 1970s, mid and late 1970s, 1980s to as of now. 1960s to early 1970s, during this period his works implicated transparency, openness, consistency, complication, and contrast on space, abstraction, white-color and metaphor. mid and late 1970s, showed the white-color figure put together with geometrical structure and post-modernism styles such as ornamentation, natural and metaphor. 1980s to as of now, implicated ornamentation, natural features, historic background, interconnections, variety, symbolism and tradition.

  • The limited number of roads and the increasing number of vehicles demand the automatic regulation of overspeed vehicles, illegal vehicles, and overloaded vehicles and the automatic charge calculation depending on the type of the vehicle. To meet such requirements, it is important to remove the shadow of the vehicle as processing and recognizing an image captured by a camera. The shadow of the vehicle is likely to cause misclassification of the vehicle type due to diverse errors and mistakes occurring when detecting geometrical properties of the vehicle. In case that shadows of two different vehicles are overlapped, not only the type of the vehicles may be misclassified but also it is difficult to accurately identify the type of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose a robust algorithm to remove the shadow of a vehicle by calculating the luminance, the chrominance, the gradient density of the cast shadow from information acquired using the image subtraction of the background, and to recognize the substantial vehicle figure. Even when it is hard to detect and split a target vehicle from its shadow as shadows of vehicles are attached to each other, our robust algorithm can detect the vehicle figure only. We implemented our system with a general camera and conducted experiments on various vehicles on general roads to find out our vehicle shade removal algorithm is efficient when detecting and recognizing vehicles.

  • In this study, we investigate the term-sets of 'base' or 'bottom': 'the bottom side of a polygon' and 'the base side (of a geometrical figure)'. And we study the concept of 'the base area' in the solid figures and the formula of 'the bottom dimensions'. We start from the 6th grade math problem: 'Find the bottom dimension of the rectangular.' The primary answer is that it does not use the term('the bottom dimensions') in the elementary mathematics. However, in the middle school mathematics, 'the base area' is used as means of 'the area of one bottom side', which is not explained anywhere from the elementary mathematics to middle school mathematics. In addition, the base is defined and 'the surface area' and 'the side area' is taught in the elementary mathematics, so we naturally think of 'the base area'. Therefore we first investigate the term-sets of 'base' or 'bottom' which has two elements: 'the bottom side of a polygon' and 'the base side (of a geometrical figure)'. Next we discuss 'the base area' through curriculum and textbooks, dictionary definitions and so on. In addition, we survey pre-service teachers and teachers about the solid figures and analyse the understanding of 'the base side' and 'the base area' comparatively. In particular, we compare the changes and the tendency of correct answers from the first question to the last question. As a result, we verify 'the cognitive gap' between the elementary mathematics and the middle school mathematics, we suggest the teaching of 'the base area' and succession subjects to teach figure domain in the elementary mathematics.

  • If we want to compare the form of two objects, the human vision takes into account the parameter's width/length/height at the same time. however, the machine needs to compare width then lengths and finally height. In each comparison the machine considers only one character. The goal of this paper is to imitate the human manner of comparison and recognition by using two or three characters instead of one during the comparison. The ellipse is a first approach of comparison because it provides us a general and a simple relation that can link two parameters that are the half axis of the ellipse. Indeed, we assimilate each character to a half axis of the ellipse and the result is a geometrical figure that varies according to values of the two characters.

  • It sis wisely stated that the most valuable knowledge that a person can acquire is the knowledge of how to learn. The human's learning is characterized by the ability to extract relationships between the different characters of a given situation . The ellipse is a first approach of comparison. We assimilate each character to a half axis of the ellipse and the result is a geometrical figure that varies according to values of the two characters. Thus, we take into account the two characters as an alone entity.

  • Today, regarded as a science in photography, the role of the lens and sensitizer is important. In this research, we manufactured simple test lens with a various diaphragm which is based on the general purpose lens, and measured the quantity of light and flare. The objective of this study is to figure out the characteristics of our test lens and maximize its usefulness. The results showed that (1) The quantity of light through the lens was not constant. (2) As for flare, its value was consist. (3) Our lens had the characteristics of the soft lens and (4) It had much chromatic abberation. Therefore, We found that a hand-made lens is to acquire visual image such as the effects of a specialized lens.
