Geometrical Compensation of Injection-Molded Thin-Walled Parts in Reverse Engineering

  • A geometric compensation of thin-walled molded parts in reverse engineering is presented. Researches in reverse engineering have focused on the fitting of points to curves and surfaces. However, the reconstructed model is not the geometric model because the molded parts have some dimensional errors in measurements and deformation during molding. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Thus, measurement data must be compensated with geometric information to reconstruct the mathematical model. The functional and geometric concepts of the part can be derived from geometric information. LSM (Least square method) is adopted to determine the geometric information. Also, an example of geometric compensation is given to improve the accuracy of geometric model and to inspect the reconstructed model.

  • 3D geometric modeling of an object of interest has been intensively investigated in many fields including CAD/CAM and computer graphics. Traditionally, CAD and geometric modeling tools are widely used to create geometric models that have nearly the same shape of 3D real objects or satisfy designers intent. Recently, with the help of the reverse engineering (RE) technology, we can easily acquire 3D point data from the objects and create 3D geometric models that perfectly fit the scanned data more easily and fast. In this paper, we present 3D geometric model generation based on a stereo vision system (SVS) using random pattern projection. A triangular mesh is considered as the resulting geometric model. In order to obtain reasonable results with the SVS-based geometric model generation, we deal with many steps including camera calibration, stereo matching, scanning from multiple views, noise handling, registration, and triangular mesh generation. To acquire reliable stere matching, we project random patterns onto the object. With experiments using various random patterns, we propose several tips helpful for the quality of the results. Some examples are given to show their usefulness.

  • 기하브라우니안모션(geometric Brownian motion) 모형과 자기상관(autoregressive) 모형을 이용하여 최근 우리나라의 주가(지수)시계열을 분석하고, 이 두 모형을 예측의 관점에서 비교하였다. 고려한 7개의 주가(지수)시계열 모두에서 예측을 시행할 때 이용하는 자료의 개수가 작을수록 기하브라우니안모션 모형 이 상대적으로 더 나은 예측치를 주는 것으로 나타났다.

Image and Observer Regions in 3D Displays

  • The relation between light sources and screen cells is considered part of the theoretical model of an autostereoscopic 3D display. The geometry of the image and observer regions is presented, including the cases of single and multiple regions. The characteristic function is introduced. Formulas for the geometric parameters are obtained, including areas and angles. Special attention is drawn to the screen location. The method of transforming the formulas between regions is stated. For multiple regions, geometric dissimilarity was found. This allows the model to be applied in finding the geometric characteristics of multiview and integral-imaging 3D displays.

기하문제해결에서의 GSP를 활용한 탐구학습 신장 (A experimental model of combining exploratory learning and geometry problem solving with GSP)

  • This paper suggested a geometry learning model which relates an exploratory learning model with GSP applications, Such a model adopts GSP's capability of visualizing dynamic geometric figures and exploratory learning method's advantages of discovering properties and relations of geometric problem proving and concepts associated with geometric inferencing of students. The research was conducted for 3 middle school students by applying the proposed model for 6times at computer laboratory. The overall procedure was videotaped so that the collected data was later analyzed by qualitative methodology. The analysis indicated that the students with less than van Hiele 4 level took advantages of adoption our proposed model to gain concrete understandings of geometric principles and concepts with GSP. One of the lessons learned from this study suggested that the roles of students and a teacher who want to employ the proposed model need to change their roles respectively.

Nonlinear control of a double-effect evaporator by riemannian geometric approach

  • The purpose of this paper is to present the details of design procedure of a nonlinear regulator by Riemannian geometric approach and to applied it to the case of a double-effect evaporator. A nonlinear geometric model is proposed on a direct sum space of a state vector and a control vector as well as in the previous parers by the authors. The geometric model is derived by replacing the orthogonal straight coordinate axes of a linear system on the direct sum space with the curvilinear coordinate axes. The integral manifold of the geometric model becomes homeomorphic to that of fictitious linear system. For the geometric model a nonlinear regulator with a performance index is designed renewedly by the procedure of optimization. The construction method of the curvilinear coordinate axes on which the nonlinear system behaves as a linear system is discussed. To apply the above regulator theory to double-effect evaporators especially to the pilot plant at the University of Alberta, a suitable nonlinear model is determined by the plant dynamics. The optimal control law is derived through the calculation of the homeomorphism. As a result it is confirmed that the regulator is effective and superior to that of the conventional control.

CBAbench: An AutoCAD-based Dynamic Geometric Constraint System

  • In this paper, an integration framework of Geometric Constraint Solving Engine and AutoCAD is presented, and a dynamic geometric constraint system is introduced. According to inherent orientation features of geometric entities and various Object Snap results of AutoCAD, the' proposed system can automatically construct an under-constrained geometric constraint model during interactive drawing. And then the directed constraint graph in a geometric constraint model is realtime modified in order to produce an optimal constraint solving sequence. Due to the open object-oriented characteristics of AutoCAD, a set of user-defined entities including basic geometric elements and graphics constraint relations are defined through derivation. And the custom-made Object Reactor and Command Reactor are also constructed. Several powerful characteristics are achieved based on these user-defined entities and reactors, including synchronously processing geometric constraint information while saving and opening DWG files, visual constraint relations, and full adaptability to Undo/Redo operations. These characteristics of the proposed system can help the designers more easily manage geometric entities and constraint relations between them.

A theoretical mapping model for bridge deformation and rail geometric irregularity considering interlayer nonlinear stiffness

  • This paper examines a high-speed railway CRTS-II ballastless track-bridge system. Using the stationary potential energy theory, the mapping analytical solution between the bridge deformation and the rail vertical geometric irregularity was derived. A theoretical model (TM) considering the nonlinear stiffness of interlayer components was also proposed. By comparing with finite element model results and the measured field data, the accuracy of the TM was verified. Based on the TM, the effect of bridge deformation amplitude, girder end cantilever length, and interlayer nonlinear stiffness (fastener, cement asphalt mortar layer (CA mortar layer), extruded sheet, etc.) on the rail vertical geometric irregularity were analyzed. Results show that the rail vertical deformation extremum increases with increasing bridge deformation amplitude. The girder end cantilever length has a certain influence on the rail vertical geometric irregularity. The fastener and CA mortar layer have basically the same influence on the rail deformation amplitude. The extruded sheet and shear groove influence the rail geometric irregularity significantly, and the influence is basically the same. The influence of the shear rebar and lateral block on the rail vertical geometric irregularity could be negligible.

형상오차가 원통형 정전용량 변위센서의 축 회전오차의 측정에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Geometric Errors on the Measurement of Error Motions of Rotor with the Cylindrical Capacitive Displacement Sensor)

  • This paper discisses the effects geometric errors on the measurement of error motions of rotor with the cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor. Analytic model of the measuring process with this sensor is derived and this model shows that the effect of geometric errors of sensor is larger than that of rator on the measurement of error motions of rotor. The computer simulation shows effect of periodic errors in this sensor on the measuring orbit.

반구상의 나선형 볼바측정을 통한 수직형 머시닝 센터의 오차 해석 및 보정 (Error Analysis and Compensation for the Volumetric Errors of a Vertical Machining Center Using Hemispherical Helix Ball Bar Test)

  • Machining accuracy is affected by quasi-static errors of machining center. Since machine errors have a direct influence upon both the surface finish and geometric shape of the finished workpiece, it is very important to measure the machine errors and to compensate these errors. The laser measurement method for identifying geometric errors of machine tool has the disadvantages such as high cost, long calibration time and usage of volumetric error synthesis model. Accordingly, this paper deals with analysis of the geometric errors of a machine tool using ball bar test without using complicated error synthesis model. Statistical analysis method was adopted in this paper for deriving geometric errors using hemispherical helix ball bar test. As a result of experiment, geometric errors of the vertical machining center are compensated by 88%.
