"백두산행기"에 나타난 윤화수의 장소인식과 지리지식의 유형 (Yun Hwasu's Understanding of Place and the Types of Geographical Knowledge Shown in the Book of Baekdusanhaenggi)

  • 본고는 1927년에 발행된 "백두산행기"에 담겨있는 저자 윤화수의 장소인식과 지리지식의 유형을 파악하고자 하였다. 이 책은 일기를 이용해 산행의 전 과정을 일자별로 상세히 기록한 것이다. 또한 이 책은 백두산 여정 중에 관찰되는 자연과 인문의 객관적인 현상과 사실뿐 아니라 그것에 대한 주관적인 해석 또는 평가, 느낌까지도 담고 있다. 윤화수는 애국계몽기에서 일제강점기까지 민족의 근대화와 독립을 위해 민중들을 교육하고 계몽하는 일에 전념하였던 사람이며, 중등학교용 지리교과서 "최신조선지리"를 간도에서 발행한 인물이다. 저자는 경험적이고 실증적인 장소인식의 기반 위에서 관념적이면서도 긍정적으로 우리 장소를 인식하였다. 이는 저자가 낙토 또는 영지라는 장소인식을 가지고, 불리한 자연환경을 지닌 간도나 백두산을 긍정적으로 평가하려고 하였기 때문이다. 그리고 "백두산행기"에 나타난 지리지식은 크게 지리내용과 지리개념이라는 유형으로 이루어져 있었다. 지리내용은 자연지리(기후, 식생, 지형과 식생 지형의 경제적 이용)와 인문경관(취락경관과 그 변화, 문화경관)이라는 유형으로, 지리개념은 위치, 거리, 지역이라는 유형으로 구분할 수 있었다.

Effectiveness of strake installation for traffic signal structure fatigue mitigation

  • Across-wind response is often the cause of significant structural vibrations that in turn cause fatigue damage to welded and other connections. The efficacy of low-cost helical strakes to mitigate such adverse response is presented for a traffic signal structure. Field observations are made on a prototype structure in a natural wind environment without and with helical strakes installed on the cantilevered arm. Through continuous monitoring, the strakes were found to be effective in reducing across-wind response at wind speeds less than 10 m/s. Estimates of fatigue life are made for four different geographical locations and wind environments. Results for the class of traffic signal structure show that helical arm strakes are most effective in locations with benign wind environments where the average annual wind speed is not more than the vortex shedding wind speed, which for this investigation is 5 m/s. It is concluded that while strakes may be effective, it is not the panacea to mitigating connection fatigue at all locations.

  • Total quality management (TQM) has been adopted in the U.S. as a way of management strategies by private enterprises as well as by the public sector. The ultimate goal of all quality management techniques and strategies is to improve quality by reducing waste, improving production process, and involving all members of the company in quality management. The purposes of this study are to review the performance of TQM activities and, based on the results, practically examine whether TQM is necessary or not in enhancing the performance of medical service institutions (hospitals) by assessing the status of TQM activities of medical service institutions and comparing such activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted against employees working for general hospitals in Seoul and other provincial areas. The questionnaire contained organized questions that were answered in writing by the target employees. A total of 184 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, TQM activities and performance were found to be positively correlated. Second, TQM activities and performance differed according to ownership types. Third, TQM activities and performance differed according to geographical locations. Fourth, TQM activities and performance differed according to leadership types.

다변량분석법을 활용한 수도권지역의 대기오염측정망 평가 (Evaluation of Air Pollution Monitoring Networks in Seoul Metropolitan Area using Multivariate Analysis)

  • The adequacy of urban air quality monitoring networks in the largest metropolitan city, Seoul was evaluated using multivariate analysis for $SO_2$, $NO_2$, CO, PM10, and $O_3$. Through cluster analysis for 5 air pollutants concentrations, existing monitoring stations are seen to be clustered mostly by geographical locations of the eight zones in Seoul. And the stations included in the same cluster are redundantly monitoring air pollutants exhibiting similar atmospheric behavior, thus it can be seen that they are being operated inefficiently. Because monitoring stations groups representing redudancy were different depending on measurement items and several pollutants are being measured at the same time in each air monitoring station, it is seemed to be not easy to integrate or transmigrate stations. But it may be proposed as follows : the redundant stations can be integrated or transmigrated based on ozone of which measures are increasing in recent years and alternatively the remaining pollutants other than the pollutant exhibiting similar atmospheric behavior with nearby station's can be measured. So it is considered to be able to operate air quality monitoring networks effectively and economically in order to improve air quality.

점포의 무인화와 소매점 입지: 서울시 무인 편의점과 무인 할인판매점을 대상으로 (Unattended Trends and Retail Locations: Focusing on Unmanned Convenience and Discount Stores in Seoul)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 새로운 소매환경의 흐름을 형성하며 무인화를 구현하고 있는 소비 업종인 편의점을 대상으로 입지 특성을 파악하고 입지 분포에 영향을 끼친 지리적 속성을 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울시를 사례로 편의점의 성장과 지역적 분포를 살펴보고, 무인 편의점과 무인 할인판매점의 입지 분포를 설명하는 감마 일반화 회귀모형을 구축한다. 분석 결과, 영업 중인 무인 편의점과 무인 할인판매점은 대중교통시설과 인접하고 상대적으로 인구의 유동은 낮지만 청년층 주거인구가 밀집하고 소매업, 외식업의 점포가 많은 지역을 중심으로 출점하여 분포하였다. 또한, 소매 품목의 범위와 특성에 따라 인구와 가구 속성의 영향력은 서로 다르게 작용하며 입지에 영향을 끼쳤다. 본 연구는 무인화한 점포의 초기 출점 입지 선정과 분포에 영향을 끼친 지리적 속성을 파악한 시작 연구로서 후속 학술 연구의 실증적 토대를 제시한다는 점에서 가치 있다.

Visualization and interpretation of cancer data using linked micromap plots

  • The causes of cancer are diverse, complex, and only partially understood. Many factors including health behaviors, socioeconomic environments and geographical locations can directly damage genes or combine with existing genetic faults within cells to cause cancerous mutations. Collecting the cancer data and reporting the statistics, therefore, are important to help identify health trends and establish normal health changes in geographical areas. In this article, we analyzed cancer data and demon-strated how spatial patterns of the age-standardized rate and health indicators can be examined visually and simultaneously using linked micromap plots. As a result of data analysis, the age-standardized rate has positive correlativity with thyroid and breast cancer, but the rate has negative correlativity with smoking and drinking. In addition, the regions with high age-standardized rate are located in southwest and the areas of high population density while the standardized mortality ratio is higher in southwest and northeast where there are lots of rural areas.

  • Japan is one of the countries where the number of the elderly people is most rapidly increasing. This study aims to locate the suitable areas for the lodgings of elderly people, using Geographical Information System (GIS). We focused on the areas where the residents can live a usual and customary life, which includes walking, shopping, hospitalizing etc. Combining the geographical and municipal data along with some other information obtained from social factors, we performed selection of the optimal locations for welfare institutions. Out of 413 areas within Nagasaki City three different areas were found suitable for such elderly people lodging.

글로벌 사이버 공간에서 디지털 위치와 지리적 거리에 관한 연구 (Dynamics of Digital Location and Geographical Distance on Cyberspace)

  • 인터넷의 확산과 함께 글로벌 커뮤니케이션을 가로막았던 경제적, 지리적 장벽은 정차 제거되고 있는 상황에서 인터넷을 이용한 국가간 정보교환에 대한 연구, 그리고 정보교환과 지리적 거리와의 상관성 등에 대한 연구는 충분히 이루어 지지 않은 형편이다. 본 연의 목적은 인터넷 상에서 각 국가가 지닌 사이버상의 디지털 위치에 대한 현황과 함께, 이것이 국가간 지리적 경계와 어떤 연관성이 있는가를 검토하는 것이다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 미국이 사이버 공간에서 가장 중심적인(central) 위치를 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 영국, 독일, 호주, 이태리, 프랑스, 캐나다, 일본, 중국이 준중심적인(semi-central) 국가들이었다. 주변적인(peripheral) 국가들은 우루과이, 룩셈부르그, 아람에밀레이트 등으로 나타났다. 둘째로 사이버 공간의 국가별 디지털 위치와 지리적 거리는 통계적으로 유의미한(significant) 상환관계를 보이지 않았다.

Smart Device Based Localization for Ship Block Logistics

  • In a ship block logistics application, acquisition of locations is required in order to identify location of the ship blocks. A Smart device equipped with a GPS sensor can be used as a mobile client for a ship block logistics application. However the precision of GPS components on a commercial smart device is not high enough. Therefore, using the GPS for localization may produce significant positioning errors in a ship block logistics system. This paper proposes a method to reduce errors in measuring locations using a smart device. Based on the knowledge of how the location information is used in a ship block logistics application, and the predictability of the client's moving line based on geographical layout of a shipyard area, our proposed technique enables a better prediction of the ship blocks location. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed technique can significantly reduce the positional error.

  • As no reference to the seasonal variations in the mosquito population of the country has been noted in the past literature and as such a survey is apparantlyprequite to insecticidal orerations, an observat on of the subject may be ofvalue. The investigation was made te different geographical locations during theperiod from March 1952 to Jul 1956 In order to obtain as accurte an averagepicture as pasaible of the country, the locations Covered geograpically such scat-tered lropertions as could represent a balance 1croverage : S_oui, kangoongNational Forestry, Incheon, Gunaa , Uejiongbu, Chungcheon, Wonju, Taegukangnoong of the eastcoast,pohang Pusan, Masan and two islands of Chejudo andPaeckyongdo. The total of approximately 3620 larval coll ctions r.corded fromthe check points described above were divided s follows ; sexul area, 950 larvae;Kangnoong National Forestry, 850 larae; Pusan area. 520 larvae; other loations,700 larvae In mosquito to adult collactions 134 light traps (new Jersey type)and 67biting collections were performed.
