탐색곡선법과 WASP-IV 모형을 이용한 국내 적정 전원구성 분석 (Generation Mix Analysis based on the Screening Curve and WASP-IV Techniques)

  • This paper tries to elicit an optimal generation mix of Korea. Two approaches, using the screening curve method and taking advantage of a generation expansion planning tool, WASP-IV, are applied in getting the mix. The data used in this study is based on the 5th basic plan for long-term electricity supply and demand. The Load Duration Curve, that is needed for applying Screening Curve Method(SCM), is made based on the load profile in 2010. In our using SCM, the nuclear plant's operation characteristic, carbon emission cost and spinning reserve are considered. In using WASP-IV to get the adequate generation mix, the base and target demand forecasts in the 5th basic plan are used and the carbon emission cost is also considered. In this paper, It introduces the domestic adequacy generation mix in 2024 though SCM and WASP-IV.

Effects of the move towards Gen IV reactors in capacity expansion planning by total generation cost and environmental impact optimization

  • Nowadays, it is necessary to accelerate the construction of new power plant in face of rising energy demand in such a way that the electricity will be generated at the lowest cost while reducing emissions caused by that generation. The expansion planning is one of the most important issues in electricity management. Nuclear energy comes forward with the low-carbon technology and increasing competitiveness to expand the share of generated energy by introducing Gen IV reactors. In this paper, the generation expansion planning of these new Gen reactors is investigated using the WASP software. Iran power grid is selected as a case of study. We present a comparison of the twenty-one year perspective on the future with the development of (1) traditional thermal power plants and Gen II reactors, (2) Gen III + reactors with traditional thermal power plants, (3) Gen IV reactors and traditional thermal power plants, (4) Gen III + reactors and the new generation of the thermal power plant, (5) the new generation of thermal power plants and the Gen IV reactors. The results show that the Gen IV reactors have the most developing among other types of power plants leading to reduce the operating costs and emissions. The obtained results show that the use of new Gen of combined cycle power plant and Gen IV reactors make the emissions and cost to be reduced to 16% and 72% of Gen II NPPs and traditional thermal power plants, respectively.

Anti-effects of Photodynamic Therapy in Peroxiredoxin IV-induced AMC-HN3 Cell Lines

  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment utilizing the generation of singlet oxygen and other reactive oxygen species (ROS), which selectively accumulate in target cells. Peroxiredoxin (prx) plays an important role in eliminating peroxides generated during metabolism. Prx exert protective antioxidant role in cells though peroxidase activity. The aim of present work is to investigate the cytotoxicity of photofrin-mediated PDT in prx IV-transfectant AMC-HN3 cell lines. We confirmed that PDT has an effect on ROS generation in prx IV-induced cell lines. Treatment of PDT in prx IV-HN3 cell lines inhibits cytotoxic effects. Prx IV-induced HN3 cell lines resists in cell death during PDT. Also, prx IV-HN3 cell lines treated PDT inhibited ROS generation in contrast with vector control. We indicated that prx IV-induced AMC-HN3 cell lines have a function as inhibitors during PDT.

  • The initial development plans for the six reactor designs, soon after the release of Generation IV International Forum (GIF) TRM in 2002, were characterized by high ambition [1]. Specifically, the sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) and very-high temperature reactor (VHTR) gained significant attention and were expected to reach the validation stage by the 2020s, with commercial viability projected for the 2030s. However, these projections have been unrealized because of various factors. The development of reactor designs by the GIF was supposed to be influenced by events such as the 2008 global financial crisis, 2011 Fukushima accident [2, 3], discovery of extensive shale oil reserves in the United States, and overly ambitious technological targets. Consequently, the momentum for VHTR development reduced significantly. In this context, the aims of this study were to compare and analyze the development progress of the six Gen IV reactor designs over the past 20 years, based on the GIF roadmaps published in 2002 and 2014. The primary focus was to examine the prospects for the reactor designs in relation to spent nuclear fuel burning in conjunction with small modular reactor (SMR), including molten salt reactor (MSR), which is expected to have spent nuclear fuel management potential.

Application of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) to the power reactor innovative small module (PRISM)

  • Several countries show interest in the Generation-IV power reactor innovative small module (PRISM), including: Canada, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. Generation IV International Forum (GIF) has recommended the utilizing of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) in evaluating the safety of Generation-IV reactors. This paper reviews the PSA performed for PRISM using SAPHIRE 7.27 code. This work shows that the core damage frequency (CDF) of PRISM for a single module is estimated by 8.5E-8/year which is lower than the Generation-IV target that is 1E-6 core damage per year. The social risk of PRISM (likelihood of latent cancer fatality) with evacuation is estimated by 9.0E-12/year which is much lower than the basic safety objective (BSO) that is 1E-7/year. The social risk without evacuation is estimated by 1.2E- 11/year which is also much lower than the BSO. For the individual risk (likelihood of prompt fatality), it is concluded that it can be considered negligible with evacuation (1.0E-13/year). Assuming no evacuation, the individual risk is 2.7E-10/year which is again much lower than the BSO. In comparison with other PSAs performed for similar sodium fast reactors (SFRs), it shows that PRISM concept has the lowest CDF.

U.S. GENERATION IV REACTOR INTEGRATED MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

  • An integrated R&D program is being conducted to study, qualify, and in some cases, develop materials with required properties for the reactor systems being developed as part the U.S. Department of Energy's Generation IV Reactor Program. The goal of the program is to ensure that the materials research and development (R&D) needed to support Gen IV applications will comprise a comprehensive and integrated effort to identify and provide the materials data and its interpretation needed for the design and construction of the selected advanced reactor concepts. The major materials issues for the five primary systems that have been considered within the U.S. Gen IV Reactor Program-very high temperature gas-cooled, supercritical water-cooled, gas-cooled fast spectrum, lead-cooled fast spectrum, and sodium-cooled fast spectrum reactors-are described along with the R&D that has been identified to address them.

Electricity Generation Coupled with Wastewater Treatment Using a Microbial Fuel Cell Composed of a Modified Cathode with a Ceramic Membrane and Cellulose Acetate Film

  • A noncompartmented microbial fuel cell (NCMFC) composed of a Mn(IV)-carbon plate and a Fe(III)-carbon plate was used for electricity generation from organic wastewater without consumption of external energy. The Fe(III)-carbon plate, coated with a porous ceramic membrane and a semipermeable cellulose acetate film, was used as a cathode, which substituted for the catholyte and cathode. The Mn(IV)-carbon plate was used as an anode without a membrane or film coating. A solar cell connected to the NCMFC activated electricity generation and bacterial consumption of organic matter contained in the wastewater. More than 99% of the organic matter was biochemically oxidized during wastewater flow through the four NCMFC units. A predominant bacterium isolated from the anode surface in both the conventional and the solar cell-linked NCMFC was found to be more than 99% similar to a Mn(II)-oxidizing bacterium and Burkeholderia sp., based on 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The isolate reacted electrochemically with the Mn(IV)-modified anode and produced electricity in the NCMFC. After 90 days of incubation, a bacterial species that was enriched on the Mn(IV)-modified anode surface in all of the NCMFC units was found to be very similar to the initially isolated predominant species by comparing 16S rDNA sequences.

  • Inhibitors of type IV phosphodiesterase (PDE IV) are currently being developed as new therapeutic agents for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and arthritis. Unfortunately, the anti-inflammatory effect of PDE IV inhibitors has been considered to be associated to some extent with vomiting as adverse effect. 환원기화 원자 흡광광도법에 의한 대기분진중의 총 셀렌의 정량 (Hydride Generation-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric Determination of Total Selenium in Atmospheric Particulate)

  • A sensitive method for the determination of total selenium in aerosol particles is described. The method involves dissolution of aerosol particles by $HNO_3-HClO_4$ mixed acids, pre-reduction of Se (VI) to Se (IV) by boiling hydrochloric acid, and hydride generation followed by atomic absorption detection. Dissolved Se (IV) in 4M hydrochloric acid is reacted with $NaBH_4$ to form $H_2Se$, which is subsequently collected in an U-tube cooled in liquid nitrogen. Upon the completion of $H_2Se$ generation, the collected $H_2Se$ is rapidly vaporized into a quartz cuvette burner by removing the U-tube from liquid nitrogen, atomized, and then detected by an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The absolute sensitivity of the method is 0.49 ng/0.0044 Abs. The accuracy of the method evaluated by analyzing standard reference materials for urban aerosol is better than 10%. Analytical results for urban and rural aerosol particles are reported.

베이비부머세대의 유형별 삶의 만족 영향 요인 (Influential Factor of Life Satisfaction based on Types of Baby Boomer Generation)

  • 본 연구는 베이비부머세대의 유형별 삶의 만족에 영향을 미치는 다차원적 요인을 규명하자고 하였다. 분석대상은 한국복지패널(10차년도) 응답자 중 1955년부터 1963년에 태어난 베이비부머세대 가구주 1,895명이었다. 베이비부머세대를 유형화하는데 활용한 기준은 성(gender), 소득지위, 종사상 지위로 남성과 여성 각각 4가지 유형으로 분류하였다. 남성 베이비부머세대의 삶의 만족에 대해 남성IV유형(B=.074, t=1.992, p<.05), 건강상태(B=.233, t=7.268, p<.001), 가구소득(B=.174, t=4.476, p<.001), 우울(B=-.182, t=-5.242, p<.001), 자아존중감(B=.255, t=7.027, p<.001), 신뢰(B=.064, t=2.036, p<.05) 등이 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 여성베이비부머세대의 삶의 만족에 대해 여성IV유형(B=.100, t=2.598, p<.05), 건강상태(B=.239, t=6.790, p<.001), 우울(B=-.181, t=-5.142, p<.001), 자아존중감(B=.320, t=8.600, p<.001) 등이 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다.
