  • This paper deals with a method for determining an optimal operation strategy of dispersed generating sources. For effective utilization of dispersed generating sources, it is indispensable to consider their thermal merits in addition to electric power. And then the optimal operation of these sources can be determined easily by the principle of equal incremental fuel cost. This paper presents an priority method to decide the optimal location of those sources in power systems about the whole year. The validity of the proposed algorithms are demonstrated using a model system.

  • PM(Preventive Maintenance) can avail the generating unit to reduce cost and gain more profit in a competitive supply-side power market. So, it is necessary to perform reliability analysis on the power systems in which reliability is essential. Thus, to schedule optimal PM planning based on reliability that is defined RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance), FMECA(Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis) assessment is very important. Therefore, in this paper, the procedure of FMECA assessment for optimal RCM is proposed by probabilistic approach using real historical failure data of combustion-turbine generators in Korean power systems. The stochastic FMECA is performed based on the effects of probable failure modes of combustion-turbine generating unit.

  • The number of buildings is increasing day by day. The next logical footstep is tackling challenges regarding scarcity of resources and sustainability, as well as shifting focus on existing building structures to renovate and retrofit. Many existing old and heritage buildings lack documentation, such as building models, despite their necessity. Technological advances allow us to use virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality on mobile platforms in various aspects of the construction industry. For these purposes, having a BIM model or high detail 3D model is not always necessary, as a simpler model can serve the purpose within many mobile platforms. This paper streamlines a framework for generating a lightweight 3D model for mobile platforms. In doing so, we use an existing structure's site survey data for the foundation data, followed by mobile VR implementation. This research conducted a pilot study on an existing building. The study provides a process of swiftly generating a lightweight 3D model of a building with relative accuracy and cost savings.

  • In this paper, an operational algorithm for a 2-shaft parallel hybrid electric vehicle is suggested for the minimization of operation cost. The operation cost is obtained as a summation of the engine fuel cost and the motor electricity cost. The electrical cost function is estimated in case of motoring, and generating when the recuperation is carried out during the braking. In addition, weight function is introduced in order to maintain the battery state of charge. Based on the operation algorithm, the optimal engine operation point that minimizes the operation cost is obtained with respect to the required vehicle power for every state of charge of battery. The optimal operation point provides the optimal power distribution of the engine and the motor for a required vehicle power Simulation was performed and the fuel economy of the hybrid vehicle was compared to that of the conventional vehicle. Simulation results showed that hybrid vehicle's fuel economy can be improved as much as 45∼48% compared to the conventional vehicle's.

  • This paper Introduces the concept of the generation cost of generating utilities and its calculation methods. Also, the economic evaluation method using generation cost which is called as a screening curve method will be presented along with the benefits and disadvantages of this concept. Next, the least-cost electric utility planning techniques which is used very widely in many countries will be Introduced In comparison with screening curve method. In this aspects, the optimal dynamic mix can be determined as a result. By comparing these two concepts, we will get the concrete concept why the economic evaluation method using generation cost can not be used for the future generation expansion planning.

  • KHNP CRI has been developing APR+ nuclear power plant since 2007, which is GEN III+ model with 1500 MWe capacity. To develop safer and more economical nuclear power plant than APR1400, we investigated advanced design features of ALWR(advanced light water reactor) being constructed in Korea and being developed/constructed in foreign countries. We applied the advanced design features and lessons learned from Fukushima accident to develop APR+ standard design suitable for both domestic construction and overseas construction business. Three economic assessments have performed during standard design phase of APR+. The result of the 3th(final) economic analysis for APR+ standard design showed that APR+ N-th plant was about 23% more economical than coal-fired 1,000MW power plant.

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an effective decision-making platform that helps to save project cost and enhance quality of construction. By generating and linking a wide variety of objects data, BIM can be effectively utilized, and it should be ensured that object properties maintain consistency throughout the project period of design, estimates, construction, maintenance and repair. This study examined how to utilize BIM data in a construction project, by linking cost and schedule data in web environment, to better utilize the information and maintain consistency of the BIM information. To do so, the model integrated WBS data and CBS data, linked them with BIM model to realize 5D simulation in web environment. As a result, cost and schedule data could be simultaneously acquired, and object properties-cost, schedule, location-as well. These are expected to contribute to developing a BIM-based automatic data-processing system in web environment.

  • The restructure of the electrical power industry is accompanied by the extension of the electrical power exchange. One of the key pieces of information used to determine how much power can be transferred through the network is known as available transfer capability (ATC). The traditional ATC deterministic approach is based on the severest case and it involves a complex procedure. Therefore, a novel approach for A TC calculation is proposed using cost optimization in this paper. The Jeju Island interconnected HVDC system has inland KEPCO (Korean Electric Power Corporation) systems, and its demand is increasing at the rate of about $\10[%]$ annually. To supply this increasing demand, the capability of the HVDC system must be enlarged. This paper proposes the optimal transfer capability of the HVDC system between Haenam in the inland and Jeju in Cheju Island through cost optimization. The cost optimization is based on generating cost in Jeju Island, transfer cost through Jeju-Haenam HVDC system and outage cost with one depth (N-1 contingency).
