  • Many cut slopes are situated on national highways. In this study, we chose rock slopes of moderated weathering grade to analyze general strength parameters of cut slopes. We analyzed the strength parameters of selected rock slopes by the experience method. Also, we arranged the strength parameters by area and rock types.

  • In order to perform the spatial buckling analysis of the curved beam element with nonsymmetric thin-walled cross section, exact static stiffness matrices are evaluated using equilibrium equations and force-deformation relations. Contrary to evaluation procedures of dynamic stiffness matrices, 14 displacement parameters are introduced when transforming the four order simultaneous differential equations to the first order differential equations and 2 displacement parameters among these displacements are integrated in advance. Thus non-homogeneous simultaneous differential equations are obtained with respect to the remaining 8 displacement parameters. For general solution of these equations, the method of undetermined parameters is applied and a generalized linear eigenvalue problem and a system of linear algebraic equations with complex matrices are solved with respect to 12 displacement parameters. Resultantly displacement functions are exactly derived and exact static stiffness matrices are determined using member force-displacement relations. The buckling loads are evaluated and compared with analytic solutions or results by ABAQUS's shell element.

  • Marine seismic processing is characterized by a great amount of data, several professional processing steps, and various parameters to be decided in each step. In general, adequate processing sequence and optimum parameters are obtained through test processing with sample set of data representing the whole group. The sequence and parameters are then applied in processing the whole data. In this paper, optimum processing sequence and parameters for the data acquired in Korean continental shelf are examined through test processing with real data. Finally, a good-quality migration section is produced using those sequence and parameters decided on the basis of the test results.

  • The determination of camera position and orientation from known correspondences of 3D reference points and their images is known as pose estimation in computer vision or space resection in photogrammetry. This paper discusses estimation of transform parameters using the pattern matching method with 2D images only. In general, the 3D reference points or lines are needed to find out the 3D transform parameters, but this method is applied without the 3D reference points or lines. It uses only two images to find out the transform parameters between two image. The algorithm is simulated using Visual C++ on Windows 98.

  • In this paper, we investigated the propagation of thermoelastic surface waves in fibre-reinforced anisotropic general viscoelastic media of higher order of nth order including time rate of strain under the influence of rotation. The general surface wave speed is derived to study the effectsof rotation andthermal onsurface waves. Particular cases for Stoneley, Love and Rayleighwaves are discussed. The results obtained in this investigation are more general in the sense that some earlier published results are obtained from our result as special cases. Our results for viscoelastic of order zero are well agreed to fibre-reinforced materials. Comparison was made with the results obtained in the presence and absence of rotation and parameters for fibre-reinforced of the material medium. It is also observed that, surface waves cannot propagate in a fast rotating medium.Numerical results for particular materials are given and illustrated graphically. The results indicate that the effect of rotation on fibre-reinforced anisotropic general viscoelastic media are very pronounced.

  • Epidural block under general anesthesia has been widely used to control postoperative pain. In this anesthetic state many hemodynamic parameters are changed. Moreover pulse transit time is influenced by this memodynamic change. m change in the finger and the toe due to relaxation of arterial wall muscle after general anesthesia and epidural block under general anesthesia. This study, in the both general anesthesia and epidural block under general anesthesia, ${\Delta}PTT$ of the toe and of the finger are measured. In addition, ${\Delta}PTT$(toe-finger) of the epidural block under general anesthesia and of the general anesthesia were compared.

  • By far the PID controller is most widely sed in the process industries. However, current tuning methods yield PID parameters only for a restricted class of process models. There is no general methodology of PID controller tuning for arbitrary process models. In this paper, we generalize the IMC-PID approach and obtain the PID parameters for general models by approximating the ideal controller with a Maclaurin series. Further, the PID controller tuned by the proposed PID tuning method gave more closer closed-loop response to the desired response than those tuned by other tuning methods.

  • Collecting data through experiment, the observers are an import source of measurement error and the inference on the measure of agreement, say kappa, is necessary. The models commonly used are complicated general mixture model, which have many nuisance parameters. Orthogonalization of parameters reduce the effect of nuisance parameter. Orthogonalization of estimating function gives the same effect as the parameter orthogonalization. In this study, the method for orthogonalization of estimating equation is studied and applied to the Beta-binomial model to examine the properties of the estimate of kappa. As a result, the likelihood function is insensitive to the change of the nuisance parameter and bias is smaller than the result of m.1.e. when kappa has extreme values

  • In this paper, the communication performance and its characteristics of the polar Low Earth Orbit(LEO) mobile satellite have been described in terms of the generalized performance parameters via geometric modeling and analysis. Especially, the general formula related to the parameters such as the number of orbits(M) and the number of satellites per orbit(N) were derived in the LEO satellite system for voice service, and then we applied the general result to IRIDIUM system(M=6, N=11) that would be scheduled to commercialize soon. The offered traffic of Inter Satellite Link(ISL), ISL link blocking probability as well as both new call blocking probability and the probability of forced termination for the on going call are calculated as the result of performance analysis.

  • Efforts have been devoted to developing rapid and accurate methods for measuring the errors of machine tools. The method os measurement and calibration of machine tool errors should be general and efficient. The objective of this study is to show in detail the full sequence from the measurement of errors factors to the verification of the positioning accuracy after compensation for the volumetric error. In this paper, we described the steps in measuring the volumetric error parameters, a general error model composed of error parameters, temperature, and the desired position. The validity of the error calibration methods proposed in this paper was tested using a vertical 3-axis CNC machine with a laser interferometer and a ball bar.
