Step-drawdown tests were conducted at four pumping Wells, two in porous media and two in fractured rocks, respectively. In general, P = 2.0 suggested by Jacob (1947) is applied to porous media and fractured rocks in terms of drawdowns of step-drawdown test. In an attempt to review problems of linear model (Jacob's graphic method) in interpreting the step-draw down test, the outcomes of well parameters (aquifer loss coefficient (B), well loss coefficient (C) and well loss exponent (P)) calculated from linear and nonlinear model (Labadie and Helweg's least-squares method) were compared and analyzed. The values of C and P calculated from linear and nonlinear models differed according to permeability of aquifer and the conditions of pumping well. The value C obtained from nonlinear models in porous media and fractured rocks is about $10^0{\sim}10^{-2}$ and $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-6}$ times lower than in their linear models, respectively. The value P of porous media obtained from nonlinear model ranged from 2.123 to 2.775, while it ranged from 3.459 to 5.635 for fractured rocks. In case of nonlinear model, well loss highly depends on the value P. At this time, well efficiencies calculated from linear and nonlinear models were $1.56{\sim}14.89%$ for porous media and $8.73{\sim}24.71%$ for fractured rocks, showing a significant error according to chosen models. In nonlinear model, it was found that the regression analysis using the least squares method was very useful to interpret step-drawdown test in all aquifer.

Quantile regression has become a more widely used technique to describe the distribution of a response variable given a set of explanatory variables. This paper proposes a novel modelfor quantile regression using doubly penalized kernel machine with support vector machine iteratively reweighted least squares (SVM-IRWLS). To make inference about the shape of a population distribution, the widely popularregression, would be inadequate, if the distribution is not approximately Gaussian. We present a likelihood-based approach to the estimation of the regression quantiles that uses the asymmetric Laplace density.
This paper deals with estimable functions of parameters of less than full rank linear model. In general, the parameters of an overspecified model are not uniquely determined by least squares solutions. It discusses how to formulate linear estimable functions as functions of parameters in the model and shows how to use projection matrices to check out whether a parameter or function of the pamameters is estimable. It also presents a method to form a basis set of estimable functions using linearly independent characteristic vectors generating the row space of the model matrix.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Targeting consumers who consume lunches at their worksite cafeterias would be a valuable approach to reduce sodium intake in South Korea. To assess the relationships between socio-demographic factors, consumer satisfaction, attitudes, barriers and the frequency of sodium-reduced meal intake. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We implemented a cross-sectional research, analyzing data from 738 consumers aged 18 years or older (327 males and 411 females) at 17 worksite cafeterias in South Korea. We used the ordinary least squares regression analysis to determine the factors related to overall satisfaction with sodium-reduced meal. General linear models with LSD tests were employed to examine the variables that differed by the frequency of sodium-reduced meal intake. RESULTS: Most subjects always or usually consumed the sodium-reduced meal (49%), followed by sometimes (34%) and rarely or never (18%). Diverse menus, taste and belief in the helpfulness of the sodium-reduced meal significantly increased overall satisfaction with the sodium-reduced diet (P < 0.05). We found importance of needs in the following order: 1) 'menu diversity' (4.01 points), 2) 'active promotion' (3.97 points), 3) 'display of nutrition labels in a visible location' (3.96 points), 4) 'improvement of taste' (3.88 points), and 5) 'education of sodium-reduction self-care behaviors' (3.82 points). CONCLUSION: Dietitians could lead consumers to choose sodium-reduced meals by improving their taste and providing diverse menus for the sodium-reduced meals at worksite cafeterias.

This paper is intended to study the relationship between state budget revenue and economic growth in Vietnam. The ordinary least-squares regression method is used with secondary data collected from General Statistics Office of Vietnam in the period of 2000-2017. Vietnamese state budget revenue includes domestic revenue (excluding oil revenue), oil revenue, custom duty revenue, and grants. The testing result shows that the state budget revenue has a positive correlation with economic growth of Vietnam. However, the components of state budget revenue have different levels of impact on the economy. Domestic revenue and oil revenue are statistically significant and have a positive effect on the economy, while the impact of custom duty revenue and grants on the economy is invisible. Vietnamese state budget revenue should be restructured toward the sustainability and by way of boosting the economy, specifically: (1) Increase the proportion of domestic revenue to state budget revenue and domestic revenue should be based on the ground of production and business activities rather than collection from state-owned assets; (2) Reduce the proportion of custom duty revenue and grants to state budget revenue; (3) Keep the volume and ratio of oil revenue in state budget revenue at an appropriate proportion.
Vertical mixing in the ocean affects the formation of water masses as well as the vertical distribution of nutrients and dissolved substances. this study is to investigate the effect of stability on the intensity of vertical transfer in the case of shallow and straitfied channel. It is found that the relation of the stability and vertical turbulent diffusion is given by K$\sub$z/ = -${\beta}$-(c+${\beta}$) / ${\alpha}$(E-1/${\alpha}$) where K$\sub$z/ and E denotes the vertical turbulent diffusion coefficient and stability, respectively. The empirical coefficients ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and c depend on the magnitude of vertical components and stability, i.e., through thermocline intensity. The study indicates that the diffusivity of the surface mixed layer is (K$\sub$z/)=300∼1,200$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec, the thermocline layer is (K$\sub$z/)= 50∼200$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec and the cold layer is (K$\sub$z/)=200∼600$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec based on near- minimum least-squares error estimates from the regression analysis. An important result of our study comes out that the model is in accordance with the general trends of the effect of stability on the vertical turbulent diffusion coefficients in the case of shallow and strongly stratified channel.

This paper examines the factors that drive temporal income diversification in rural areas of the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam, based on a framework that conceptualized diversification as a function of a household's capacity to diversify and incentives (both push and pull factors) to diversify. Drawing from five rounds of the Vietnam Living Standard Measurement Surveys covering a 13-year span (1993-2006), two panel datasets made from five cross-sectional samples are used for the analyses. The data are drawn from the Vietnam General Statistics Office. Both tobit model and Ordinary Least Squares model with random and fixed effects are applied. The main points emerging from the analysis is that income diversification is strongly influenced by household labor capacity. The relationship between household labor capacity and increasing insertion in non-farming wage activities is not driven by unobserved time-invariant factors such as household ability and motivation, but is instead driven by the higher labor capacity of households. In terms of the other household capacity variables, the effect of farm size is much larger in terms of retaining households in traditional occupations as compared to pushing them towards non-farm wage employment. Other variables such as household access to financial capital do not play an important role.

Quantile regression proposed by Koenker and Bassett (1978) is a statistical technique that estimates conditional quantiles. The advantage of using quantile regression is the robustness in response to large outliers compared to ordinary least squares(OLS) regression. A regression tree approach has been applied to OLS problems to fit flexible models. Loh (2002) proposed the GUIDE algorithm that has a negligible selection bias and relatively low computational cost. Quantile regression can be regarded as an analogue of OLS, therefore it can also be applied to GUIDE regression tree method. Chaudhuri and Loh (2002) proposed a nonparametric quantile regression method that blends key features of piecewise polynomial quantile regression and tree-structured regression based on adaptive recursive partitioning. Lee and Lee (2006) investigated wage determinants in the Korean labor market using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS). Following Lee and Lee, we fit three kinds of quantile regression tree models to KLIPS data with respect to the quantiles, 0.05, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, and 0.95. Among the three models, multiple linear piecewise quantile regression model forms the shortest tree structure, while the piecewise constant quantile regression model has a deeper tree structure with more terminal nodes in general. Age, gender, marriage status, and education seem to be the determinants of the wage level throughout the quantiles; in addition, education experience appears as the important determinant of the wage level in the highly paid group.
Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-5 (KOMPSAT-5) is the first satellite in Korea that provides 1 m resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Precise orbit determination (POD) using a dual-frequency IGOR receiver data is performed to conduct high-resolution SAR images. We suggest orbit determination strategies based on a differential GPS technique. Double-differenced phase observations are sampled every 30 seconds. A dynamic model approach using an estimation of general empirical acceleration every 6 minutes through a batch least-squares estimator is applied. The orbit accuracy is validated using real data from GRACE and KOMPSAT-2 as well as simulated KOMPSAT-5 data. The POD results using GRACE satellite are adjusted through satellite laser ranging data and compared with publicly available reference orbit data. Operational orbit determination satisfies 5 m root sum square (RSS) in one sigma, and POD meets the orbit accuracy requirements of less than 20 cm and 0.003 cm/s RSS in position and velocity, respectively.

In order to find out the effect of a plant growth regulating hormone, commonly called as 2, 4, 5-TP, for checking the resisting energy against falling of grain of Indica-Japonica species rice, an experiment was conducted with five levels of consistency (5,10, 15, 20, 25 ppm) and with four levels of spray timing (8, 17, 27, 34 DAH). Ten applications were made for measuring the resisting energy of rice heads sampled from every lot of treatments. Followings are the results; 1.The rice heads applied with 2, 4, 5-TP showed remarkably higher resisting energy against falling of grain comparing with those from the control plot. 2.The highest average value of the resisting energy was found as 83, 326 erg per grain on the plots of 8 DAH spray. 3.The general tendency was found that the more the timing of spraying was early, the more the consistency was lean. 4.A regression equation for expressing the peak resistance versus the timing was derived by means of least squares as follow; C=0. 00042D$^3$-0. 012D$^2$+0. 267D+8. 394 5.No significant differences were found among the values of weight per 1, 000 grains neither among moisture content.
