  • In this paper, the dedicated short range communication(DSRC) system which used as the automatic gate system(AGS) Donga Univ. RRC developed is applied to yard automation. We proposed the communication algorithm of between roadside equipment(RSE) and on-board equipment(OBE). We analyzed transmitted and received information, classification and feature of between OBE and RSE for automation of the container yard and unloading system.

  • In order to become a mega hub port, major ports all over the world are making every effort to enhance their productivity through efficiency of internal operation and introduction of the state-of-the-art technologies. They are not only installing various kinds of high-technology equipments but also introducing advanced technologies for the development of an effective gate system. Recently thanks to the appearance of RFID (radio frequency identification) and OCR (optical character recognition) technology, major container terminals are stewing up the automation of truck and container identification at the container luminal gate. This study aim to develop an automated gate system for identification task based on RFID and OCR technology. It will make mn effective gate operations in a container terminal.

  • The process of automation and monitoring in industrial control system involves the use of many types of sensors. A programmable logic controller plays an important role in the automation of the different processes in the power plant system. The major control units are boiler for temperature and pressure, turbine for speed of motor, generator for voltage, conveyer belt for fuel. The power plant units are controlled using microcontrollers and PLCs, but FPGA can be the feasible solution. The paper focused on the design and simulation of hardware chip to monitor boiler, turbine, generator and conveyer belt. The hardware chip of the plant is designed in Xilinx Vivado Simulator 17.4 software using VHDL programming. The methodology includes VHDL code design, simulation, verification and testing on Virtex-5 FPGA hardware. The system has four independent buzzers used to indicate the status of the boiler, generator, turbine motor and conveyer belt in on/off conditions respectively. The GSM is used to display corresponding message on the mobile to know the status of the device in on/off condition. The system is very much helpful for the industries working on plant automation with FPGA hardware integration.

  • CVO(Commercial Vehicle Operations) of Intelligent Transport Systems is the system to manage effciently cargo distribution as providing at real time the information of cargo location and situation through nS and GPS technology. In this paper, we proposed the Gate Automation System of harbors among AVI/AEI. To implement this system, we use the DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) which adopts an wireless communication between RSE(Road-side Equipment) and OBE(on-Board Equipment) on a vehicle. When constructing the automation gateway system of harbors, the business application ability are reviewed practically and the logistics facilities to be constructed in the near future nay use this paper results according to the international standard and it could help complete integrated logistics system.

Hardware Implementation of a Neural Network Controller with an MCU and an FPGA for Nonlinear Systems

  • This paper presents the hardware implementation of a neural network controller for a nonlinear system with a micro-controller unit (MCU) and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. As an on-line learning algorithm of a neural network, the reference compensation technique has been implemented on an MCU, while PID controllers with other functions such as counters and PWM generators are implemented on an FPGA chip. Interface between an MCU and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip has been developed to complete hardware implementation of a neural controller. The developed neural control hardware has been tested for balancing the inverted pendulum while controlling a desired trajectory of a cart as a nonlinear system.

  • The development of technology provides and increases security as well as convenience for humans. The development of new technology directly affects the standard of life thanks to smart home automatic control systems. This paper describes a door control, automatic curtain, home security (CCTV, fire, gas, safe, etc.), home control (energy, light, ventilation, etc.) and web-based smart home automatic controller. It also describes the use of ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) for automatic control of home equipment, a Multi-Axes Servo Controller using FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and PLC (programmable logic controller). Additionally, it describes the development of a HTML editor using web auto control software. The tab loading time (7 seconds) is faster when using ARM-based web browser software instead of Chrome and Firefox is used because the browser has a small memory footprint (300M). This system is realized by web auto controller language which controls and uses PLCs that are easier than existing devices. This smart home automatic control technology can control smart home equipment anywhere and anytime and provides a remote interface through mobile equipment.

  • In the environment where human coexists with robot, the problem of safety is very important. But it is difficult to separate the robot from the human in time-domain or space-domain unlike the case of factory automation, so a new concept is needed. One approach is to notice sensory and emotional feeling of human, and in this study "pain" is focused, which is a typical unpleasant feeling when the robot contacts us. In this paper, to design the controller based on the pain, an artificial superficial pain model caused by impact is proposed. This ASPM model consists of mechanical pain model, skin model and gate control by artificial neural networks (ANNs). The proposed ASPM is evaluated by experiments.

  • In this paper, a hardware compiler for symbolic description language(SDL) is proposed for logic design automation. Lexical analysis is performed for SDL which describes the behavioral characteristics of a digital system at the register transfer level by the proposed algorithm I. The algorithm I is proposed to get the expressions for the control unit and for the data transfer unit. In order to obtain the network description language(NDL) expressions equivalent to gate-level logic circuits, another algorithm, the the algorithm II, is proposed. Syntax analysis for the data formed by the algorithm I is also Performed using circuit elements such as D Flip-Flop, 2-input AND, OR, and NOT gates. This SDL hardware compiler is implemented in the programming language C(VAX-11/750(UNIX)), and its efficiency is shown by experiments with logic design examples.

  • This paper describes the method of efficient container number recognition in colored container image with number plate at ATC(Automatic Transfer Crane) in container terminal yard. At the Sinseondae terminal gate in Busan, the container number recognition system is installed by "intelligent port-logistics system technology development", that is government research and development project. It is the method that it sets up the tunnel structure inside camera on the gate and it recognizes the container number in order to recognize the export container cargo automatically. However, as the automation equipment is introduced to the container terminal and the unmanned of a task is gradually accomplished, the container number recognition system for the confirmation of the object of work is required at ATC in container terminal yard. Therefore, the container number recognition system fitted for it is necessary for ATC in container terminal yard in which there are many intrusive of the character recognition through image including a sunlight, rain, snow, shadow, and etc. unlike the gate. In this paper, hardware components of the camera, illumination, and sensor lamp were altered and software elements of an algorithm were changed. that is, the difference of the brightness of the surrounding environment, and etc. were regulated for recognize a container number. Through this, a shadow problem, and etc. that it is thickly below hung with the sunlight or the cargo equipment were solved and the recognition time was shortened and the recognition rate was raised.

A Bidirectional Single-Stage DC/AC Converter for Grid Connected Energy Storage Systems

  • In this paper, a unified control strategy using the current space vector modulation (CSVM) technique is proposed and applied to a bidirectional three-phase DC/AC converter. The operation of the converter changes with the direction of the power flow. In the charging mode, it works as a buck type rectifier; and during the discharging mode, it operates as a boost type inverter, which makes it suitable as an interface between high voltage AC grids and low voltage energy storage devices. This topology has the following advantages: high conversion efficiency, high power factor at the grid side, tight control of the charging current and fast transition between the charging and discharging modes. The operating principle of the mode analysis, the gate signal generation, the general control strategy and the transition from a constant current (CC) to a constant voltage (CV) in the charging mode are discussed. The proposed control strategy has been validated by simulations and experimental results obtained with a 1kW laboratory prototype using supercapacitors as an energy storage device.
