Oil Adsorption of Exfoliated Graphite Prepared by Direct Reaction between $SO_3$ Gas and Graphite

  • Graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) were prepared by direct reaction of $SO_3$ gas with flake graphite. The intercalated $SO_3$ molecules were ejected by rapid heating to $950^{\circ}C$ under an oxidizing atmosphere for about 1 minute, resulting in surprisingly high expansion in the direction of c-axis. The characteristics of the micro-structure and pore size distribution were examined with a SEM and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The XRD analysis and spectroscopic analysis were used for the identification of the graphite and surface chemistry state. The pore size distribution of the exfoliated graphite (EG) was a range of $1{\sim}170{\mu}m$. The higher expanding temperature the higher expanded volume, so oil sorption capacities were 58.8 g of bunker-C oil and 34.7 g of diesel oil per 1 g of the the EG. The sorption equilibrium was achieved very rapidly within several minutes. As the treatment temperature increases, bulk density decreases.

석탄층내 CH4과 CO2의 흡착거동에 의한 ECBM 효율성 분석 (The Analysis of ECBM Efficiency about Sorption Rate between CH4 and CO2)

  • $CO_2$ 주입에 의한 석탄층 가스생산거동을 평가하기 위해서는 석탄에 대한 $CH_4$$CO_2$의 가스흡착거동을 파악하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 $CO_2$ 회수증진공법이 가능한 석탄층 심도내 압력과 온도가 흡착량 에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 압력은 상압에서 1400 psia의 범위까지, 온도는 $15^{\circ}C$에서 $45^{\circ}C$까지 $10^{\circ}C$ 간격으로 흡착량 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과, $CO_2$$CH_4$ 모두 탄층 압력이 커질수록 흡착량이 증가하는 반면에, 온도가 증가할수록 $CO_2$$CH_4$의 흡착량은 일정한 비율로 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 심도 800m 이하의 범위내에서는 심도가 깊어질수록 $CO_2$ 격리량 및 $CH_4$ 생산량은 증가하지만, 심도에 대한 증가폭은 지속적으로 감소됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Micro-/macroporous carbons (MMCs) were prepared using a hollow mesoporous silica capsule (HMSC) as a sacrificial hard template. The carbonization process after the infiltration of furfuryl alcohol into the template-free HMSC material afforded MMC materials in high yield. The hard template HMSC could be removed by HF etching without deteriorating the structure of MMC. The MMC materials were fully characterized by SEM, TEM, PXRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. The replication processes were so successful that MMCs exhibited a hollow capsular structure with multimodal microporosity. Detailed textural properties of MMC materials were investigated by volumetric $N_2$ adsorption-desorption analysis at 77 K. To explore the gas sorption abilities of MMCs for other gases, $H_2$ and $CO_2$ sorption analyses were also performed at various temperatures. The multimodal MMC materials were found to be good sorbents for both $H_2$ and $CO_2$ at low pressure.

  • 금속유기골격체(metal-organic frameworks, MOFs)는 나노사이즈의 기공을 가진 다공성 물질로, 금속이온과 유기리간드의 종류에 따라 기체흡착도 및 기공크기의 조절이 가능하다. 이러한 장점을 이용하여, 기체 포집 및 분리, 그리고 기체센서분야에서 금속유기골격체에 대한 연구가 많이 이루어지고 있다. 신속하고, 정량적인 기체 흡탈착 분석을 위해서는, 센서 표면에 균일한 필름 형태의 다양한 MOF 구조체를 형성해야 한다. 본 총설논문에서는 양극산화알루미늄, 산화아연 나노막대, 구리 박막으로부터 직접합성법을 이용하여 각각 MIL-53 (Al), ZIF-8, Cu-BDC와 같은 MOF를 마이크로진동자 센서 표면에 균일하게 합성하는 방법에 대해 정리하였다. 또한, 대표적인 마이크로진동자인 수정진동자미세저울과 마이크로캔틸레버의 작동원리와 금속유기골격체에 기체흡착 시 변하는 신호해석에 대한 내용을 다룬다. 이를 통해, 마이크로진동자 기반 금속유기골격체의 기체 흡탈착 분석에 대한 이해를 높이고자 한다.

  • To check feasibility of SEWGS(Sorption Enhanced Water Gas Shift) system, conceptual design and sensitivity analysis of operating variables have been investigated based on a design program of two-interconnected fluidized bed. Based on the conceptual design results, the optimum configuration for SEWGS was considered. Among three configurations, bubbling beds system was selected as the best configuration. Process design results indicate that the SEWGS system is compact and feasible. Based on the selected operating conditions, the effects of variables such as pressure, $CO_2$ capture capacity, solid inventory, CO conversion and $CO_2$ capture efficiency have been investigated as well.

  • Catalytic pyrolysis of Geodae-Uksae 1, a kind of miscanthus found in Korea, was carried out over mesoporous MCM-48 catalysts. For rapid product analysis and catalyst evaluation, pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was used. X-ray diffraction, nitrogen sorption, pyridine adsorbed Fourier transform infrared, and NH3 temperature programmed desorption were utilized to analyze the properties of the catalysts. Compared to non-catalytic reaction, catalytic upgrading over mesoporous Al-MCM-48 catalysts produced a higher-quality bio-oil with a high stability and low oxygen content. Al-MCM-48 exhibited higher deoxygenation ability than Si-MCM-48 due to its higher acidity.

  • 초고진공용으로 시판되고 있는 G-M 냉동기 부착형 크라이오 펌프의 여러 기체에 대한 배기특성을 조사했다. 수소 및 중수소, 헬륨, 알곤, 질소, 일산화탄소의 배기량에 따른 배기속도의 변화를 측정하고 질소의 배기용량을 측정하였으며 그 경향을 이론적으로 분석했다. 또 크라이오펌프로 배기할 때 시스템의 잔류기체 변화에 대해서도 조사했다.

석탄층 메탄가스 저류층에서 탄층 심도를 고려한 생산정 간격 설계 연구 (A Study on the Production Well Spacing Design Considering Coalbed Depth in Coalbed Methane Reservoirs)

  • 본 연구에서는 인도네시아 북부 칼리만탄 섬 임의의 광구에서 취득한 석탄시료의 메탄가스 흡착량 측정 실험 결과를 활용하여 석탄층 메탄가스 저류층의 적정 생산정 간격 설계 연구를 수행하였다. 가스 생산성 분석결과, 랭뮤어 부피가 증가할수록 누적 가스생산량도 증가하며 이는 최대 가스 흡착량이 가스생산량에 직접적인 영향을 주는 것으로 판단된다. 또한 탄리투과도가 증가할수록 최대 가스생산량이 증가하고 배출수 기간(dewatering period)이 단축되는 것을 확인하였다. 특히 생산 영향영역이 넓어짐에 따라 누적 가스생산량은 증가하지만 단위 가스정 당 생산성 비교 시, 심도 2,000 ft, 영향영역 80-160 acres 사이에서 최대 누적 가스생산량이 산출되었다. 탄층 심도와 생산 영향영역을 동시에 고려하여 적정 생산정 심도 및 간격 산출 결과, 600-2,000 ft 사이에서 가스 생산성이 가장 높게 나타나며, 이때 생산정 간격은 80-160 acres 범위 내로 설계 하는 것이 적정하다. 따라서 탐사 시추 시 회수된 코어 시료 이외의 시추 자료가 없는 미개발 CBM 저류층에서 석탄시료의 가스흡착 실험 결과를 활용함으로써 탄층심도를 고려한 생산정 간격 설계를 수행할 수 있음을 제시하였다.

Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Mini-disk Extraction

  • A novel sampling method of the headspace poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) mini-disk extraction (HS-PDE) was developed, optimized, validated and applied for the GC/MS analysis of spices flavors. A prototype PDMS mini-disk (8 mm outer diameter, 0.157 mm thickness, 9.4 mg weight) has been designed and fabricated as a sorption device. The technique uses a small PDMS mini-disk and very small volume of organic solvent and less sample size than the solvent extraction. This new HS-PDE method is very simple to use, inexpensive, rapid, requires less labor. Linearities of calibration curves for ${\alpha}$-pinene, ${\beta}$-pinene, limonene and ${\gamma}$-terpinene by HS-PDE combined with GC/MS were excellent having $r^2$ values greater than 0.99 at the dynamic range of 6.06~3500 ng/mL. The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) showed very low values. This method exhibited good precision and accuracy. The overall extraction efficiency of this method was evaluated by using partition coefficients ($K_p$) and concentration factors (CF) for several characteristic components from nutmeg and mace. Partition coefficients were in the range from $2.04{\times}10^4$ to $4.42{\times}10^5$, while CF values were 0.88-15.03. HS-PDE was applied successfully for the analysis of flavors compositions from nutmeg, mace and cumin. The HS-PDE method is a very promising sampling technique for the characterization of volatile flavors.

극저온(20K) 수소동위원소 흡착 등온선의 온도 변화에 대한 자동 저온 부피 교정 (Automated Cold Volume Calibration of Temperature Variation in Cryogenic Hydrogen Isotope Sorption Isotherm)

  • The gas adsorption isotherm requires accurate measurement for the analysis of porous materials and is used as an index of surface area, pore distribution, and adsorption amount of gas. Basically, adsorption isotherms of porous materials are measured conventionally at 77K and 87K using liquid nitrogen and liquid argon. The cold volume calibration in this conventional method is done simply by splitting a sample cell into two zones (cold and warm volumes) by controlling the level sensor in a Dewar filled with liquid nitrogen or argon. As a result, BET measurement for textural properties is mainly limited to liquefied gases (i.e. $N_2$ or Ar) at atmospheric pressure. In order to independently investigate other gases (e.g. hydrogen isotopes) at cryogenic temperature, a novel temperature control system in the sample cell is required, and consequently cold volume calibration at various temperatures becomes more important. In this study, a cryocooler system is installed in a commercially available BET device to control the sample cell temperature, and the automated cold volume calibration method of temperature variation is introduced. This developed calibration method presents a reliable and reproducible method of cryogenic measurement for hydrogen isotope separation in porous materials, and also provides large flexibility for evaluating various other gases at various temperature.
