  • As a display becomes large recently, Acquisition of high luminance and Luminance uniformity is becoming difficult in the existing CCFL or EEFL backlight system. So, study for a performance enhancement has enforced. but lamp development of flat type is asked for high luminance and a luminance uniformity security in of LCD and area anger trend ultimately. In this paper, we changed a tip shape of an electrode for production by the most suitable LCD backlight surface light source, and confirmed discharge characteristic along discharge gas pressure and voltage, and confirmed electric field distribution and discharge energy characteristic through a Maxwell 2D simulation. Therefore the discharge firing voltage characteristic showed a low characteristic than a rectangular type and round type in case of electrode which used tip of a triangle type, and displayed a discharge electric current as a same voltage was low.

  • Hg-free fluorescent lamps were fabricated and electro-optical characterization were measured for using LCD backlight. PDP phosphors, nitro-cellulose and n-butyl acetate were mixed and coated uniformly in glass tube without stain. The glass tubes were sintered at $550^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes, vacuumed to $10^{-6}$ torr and supplied discharge gas by using a gas mixture. After various experiment about phosphors thickness and inner diameter of glass tube, the appropriate phosphors thickness and inner diameter of glass tube were obtained. The luminance and luminous efficiency of manufactured fluorescent lamps with Ne+Xe discharge gas were $6,270cd/m^2$, 13 lm/W under 75 kHz sinusoidal wave voltage, respectively.

  • The properties of discharge, luminance, and spectroscopy are investigated in a longitudinal and transverse discharge fluorescent lamps with tube of outer diameter 4 mm. The sample lamps are prepared to be three kinds of gas composition such as mercury lamps of Ne(95%)+Ar(5%)+Hg(2 mg), the mercury-free lamps of Xe 100% and Ne+Xe(4%). The gas pressure is in the range of $5{\sim}300\;Torr$. In the mercury lamps, the longitudinal discharge having a positive column is high in luminance and efficiency, while the transverse discharge is no luminance at all. In the Xe-lamps, the transverse discharge shows relatively good in efficiency as compared with the longitudinal discharge which has a high discharge voltage and a low luminance and efficiency. In the transverse discharge of relatively high efficiency, a pure Xe(100%) gas discharge has a higher efficiency than the mixture gas of Ne+Xe(4%). Through these experiments, the properties of mercury and xenon lamps are verified. In the mercury lamps, the longitudinal discharge of tubular fluorescent lamps is high in luminance and efficiency, while the transverse discharge of flat panel fluorescent lamps are low in luminance efficiency. In the mercury-free lamps, the flat fluorescent lamps of transverse discharge having a high pressure ${\sim}100\;Torr$ with the pure Xe-gas are verified to be suggestable.

  • Silent gas discharge method has been widely applied for ozone production, ultraviolet light and UV laser generation. Since ozone and ultraviolet applications have tendency to spread widely in industry, the development of efficient and low-cost power supply for such systems is a task of great impotency. This paper introduces high-frequency inverter type mode power supply designed for ozone generation tube and ultraviolet generation excimer lamp and considerations on this inverter and pulse density modulation control strategy applied in it.

  • Low-Pressure inductively coupled RF discharge sources have important industrial applications mainly because they can provide a high-density electrodeless plasma source with low ion energy and low power loss. In an inductive discharge, the RF power is coupled to the plasma by an electromagnetic interaction with the current flowing in a coil. In this paper, the experiments have been focussed on the electric characteristic and carried out using a single Langmuir probe. The internal electric characteristics of inductively coupled Ar RF discharge at 13.56(MHz) have been measured over a wide range of power at gas pressure ranging from 1∼70(mTorr).

  • Recently, the RF inductive discharge or inductively coupled plasma(ICP) continues to attract growing attention as an effective plasma source in many industrial applications, the best known of which are plasma processing and lighting technology. To the point of lighting sources, the electrodeless fluorescent lamps utilizing an inductively coupled plasma(ICP) have been objects of interest and research during the last decades, mainly because of their potential for extremely long life, high lamp efficacies, rapid power switching response. The electrodeless fluorescent lamp that is dealt with in this work comprises a bulb filled with rare gas and amalgam of vaporizable metal and has a coil provided with a winding around the ferrite. Current through a coil produces a magnetic field in the discharge space The changing magnetic flux then produces an azimuthal electric field E around the coil, according to Faraday's laws of magnetic induction.

  • In this paper, the brightmess from inside gas pressure, applied voltages, and operation frequency conditions was measured and the discharge characteristics in FFL(Flat Fluorescent Lamp) also were measured and discussed. The brightness and lifetime after vacuum exhaust ($350^{\circ}C$ and 1 hour) ate remarkably developed. When the gas pressure of lamp-inside is high, the brightness is also increased automatically. But for the stabilization of operation and driving voltage, the highest values of brightness at about 1000[V], 300[Torr] and 64(kHz) are measured and the results are shown as the optimized driving conditions for FFL.

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. The electrodeless fluorescent lamp is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, electron temperature and electron density were measured in a radio-frequency inductively coupled plasma using a Langmuir probe method for emission characteristics. Measurement was conducted in an Ne discharge for pressure from 10 [mTorr] and input RF power 100 [W] to 150 [W]. As for the electron density, a electron temperature was more distinguished for a emission characteristic. The results of ideal may contribute to systematic understanding of a electrodeless fluorescent lamps of emission characteristics.
